How Blatantly Does the New Spider-Man Trailer Rip Off Mirror’s Edge?

Stephen Totilo — The new Spider-Man movie trailer is cool. It's also a bit familiar to those of us who played and enjoyed the 2008 video game Mirror's Edge. How similar? Watch. You might notice some amazing, spectacular coincidences.

People will find anything to bitch about. I'm sure Spider-Man was running along rooftops and jumping over shit before the guy's who created Mirror's Edge were even born.

tdogg060519914660d ago

When did you see him do it in FP until now?

LarVanian4660d ago

In the Spider-Man movie video-game there was a cheat that would let you play as Spider-man in first-person.
That game was released in 2002, six years before Mirrors Edge.

Mirror's Edge 2!

And a Spiderman outfit option!

Though, I didn't think Faith was that flat chested...

Buuhan14660d ago

She's close, tho. But that's okay, I think women of all sizes are beautiful. Never understood the mockery and hate Faith got for not having a huge chest.

More than a handful is a waste.

Capital!

mirror edge team up with a spiderman game .. so out of reach but that would be a great game.

rabidpancakeburglar4660d ago

Pretty blatantly. I was looking at the text thinking "Where the hell is the video" for about a minute before I realised that I was scrolled down the page.

iamnsuperman4660d ago (Edited 4660d ago )

Not really. Can't see any similarities. I am assuming the first person view is more to distinguishing its self from the previous films. I assume the author doesn't now free running/parkour is popular and appeared in films even before Mirrors edge was released

slightly off topic: the most blatant use of same footage can be seen in the gif pointed out by someone in the comment section http://cache.gawker.com/ass...

rabidpancakeburglar4660d ago

I saw that last week, pretty hilarious but you've got to wonder about the sort of people who discover that stuff.

Inzo4660d ago

Personally I think that that is a huge complement for Mirrors edge

Tales of Kenzera: Zau conveys its somber themes with nuance and passion. It's just a shame the gameplay doesn't always match those highs.

I fully expect to see this game at Xbox Showcase this year.

Tacoboto18h ago

Me too.

I expect Hellblade 2 to be the start of a consistent stream of UE5 XGS titles. It's basically their default engine, save for ForzaTech and the proprietary engines in use at Activision and Bethesda.

Really looking forward to seeing the Forzatech based Fable. Playground games has had a great track record with the Horizon series, so lets see.

purple10117h ago

I fully expected to see it released about 3 year ago, but each to their own

Lightning7716h ago(Edited 16h ago)

There's no way it would release in 2021 especially when it was announced at the VGA's 2020.

purple10115h ago

@lightning, that’s when the first trailer was shown, but it was known to be in development much earlier and Xbox fans were tooting it to be released years ago, the initiative studio formed in 2018, and to my knowledge have not released a game

That’s 6 years and all you got is a trailer and some empty promises
Good one from Microsoft, yet again.

Lightning7713h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Such is game development, long developmental cycles is one of the big black eyes of the industry. I don't see you complaining about Wolverine that got announced in 2021, releasing in 2026 and only got one trailer.

purple1015h ago

@ lightning
Nice try but for one, 2021 - 2025 would only be 5 years not 6,

And for two insomniac have developed multiple games or have multiple games in development over that time, and the initiative only have the 1 game to be concerned with

For three, we all know the quality Wolverine will be and although I do hope perfect dark is good, it’s unlikely to be as good as insomniacs proven track record

Good thing they got Crystal Dynamics to make it, at least they know how to make a game that has 60 fps.
