X Rebirth to feature multicore engine and cockpit view

DSOGaming writes: "Egosoft confirmed a while ago that their engine that will power X Rebirth will take advantage of multicore CPUs. According to the company, this is a new engine from scratch and one of the design goals was to make use of multiple threads / cores. Moreover, a leaked screenshot revealed that there will be a cockpit view."

But the X series is as HARDCORE as it gets. Gamer and hardware wise. So much wire frame building that X3 Terran Conflict use to cripple CPU's making multi-tasking very rough while playing X3.

I'm glad they are making a new engine and Finally adding in much needed multi-thread/multi-core efficiency. hope they optimize the graphics side as well.

I think the X Series and Eve Online are the two hardest games ever, hard but very rewarding.

.....and not all consolers are dumb.

Normally a post like what FasterThanFTL posted would make me write him off as a troll. However, I think he was correct. This game was too hardcore for most of my "geekier" PC friends.

lol you sound like you would get drunk, find a console gamer in the street, then get arrested for assault..

Then get bailed out with the money you were planning to use to upgrade with.

But still pcftw!

More action oriented this time? That could be both a good and a bad thing. I hope they retain the depth but at the same time make it more accessible and the good parts about the game easier to come across. I've just recently started playing the game and while I'm enjoying aspects the environments seem to be rather dull. At times I feel as though I'm just flying around a series of empty interconnected rooms without interest or diversity. Still haven't started my empire and I'm still flying around in my Sabre so hopefully I'll figure out how to get to the meaty parts of the game before I lose interest.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this and I hope they can polish the game because with X3:TC I feel like I have to struggle to have fun at times.

You are right to worry about more action, but it may be just fine. The reason for a lot of the complexity was due to not upgrading the engine much over the last decade or so. This is apparently the reason for the clumsy interface and other notable issues with the game. Also the devs are going to make the beginning of the game easier for new players then upping the complexity later.

Normally I take dev promises with a grain of salt, but the X games have pretty strong group of hardcore fans and it wouldn't be wise to piss them off.

As to X3 TC, just wait till you get a capital ship. I'll say this, if you only have sabre still, then you haven't even scratched the surface yet. Egosoft forums are a big help if you are looking for the fun parts.

Love this series, but it is not for the faint at heart, eventually after many months you will start to get better, building trade routes , space stations, mining etc... Many people play this for years and years and never get bored.

Hope they sort out those nebula areas. I never played Terran Conflict so i dunno if it was fixed, but in Reunion they did mah head in.

Spent so much time playing The Threat.
