Beyond Good & Evil 2 "needs power"

EuroGamer - Beyond Good & Evil 2 might be too ambitious for the current generation of consoles to handle, creator Michel Ancel has revealed.

this game will be a launch title for next gen consoles

ATiElite4694d ago

Well my PC has plenty of that so what are you waiting for...chop chop!

Unfortunately BG&E2 will be a launch title for the Xbox 720. Ubisoft has a 720 Dev box along with Activision EA and others. This game was targeted for the PC but this obvious new system has pushed it back. M$ is tossing cash at Ubisoft so this might end up a Xbox 720 or Windows 8 Exclusive.

will have to wait and see

TheViper4694d ago

The game was never targeted for the PC. It was for X360 and PS3 (Wii was considered since it has the game engine running on it).

Now it seems the target platforms are Wii U, PS4 and Next X.

b_one4694d ago

i could say, they need to pass project to Naughty Dog and then if they say "we need power" we can start crying...
if it will be xbox720 ex then it means MS buys out devs for next gen`s big start, and shit will start over :) first two years lots of ex and multiplats then they will abandon it and move on...

Kahvipannu4694d ago

"The game was never targeted for the PC. It was for X360 and PS3 "

The first one came for PC, and was technically strongest one, I see no reason why the second one would not be "targeted" for PC too..

JsonHenry4693d ago

Yeah, my thoughts too. Put it on my PC if needs power.

good to hear it, keep it up ancel, expect to hear this from more and more devs, about the only thing on consoles that would look good to me anymore are 2d games in true 1080p running at 60 frames

that is the only type of graphics they can handle at that high of fidelity

and after playing everything on pc for the last 5 years at that fidelity, espesially games like metro2033 dx11, the witcher 2, crysis warhead dx10, it gets harder and harder for me to go back and play anything but the very best exclusives on my ps3 and 360, and even those look quite out of date

kudos to you ancel, stay true man, 720p is garbage

blackburn104694d ago (Edited 4694d ago )

What BS.What if next gen people don't want it anymore? Why not give it to the people who are closer to the gen that liked BGE 1? By the time you get it going no one might care anymore e.g. Alan Wake and Duke Nukeum. What an idiotic and brainless idea. How long before they figure out how to harness the Wii U or any other next gen system's power to the fullest? 2 or 3 years? Who says anyone will want you game by then? It just shows how ungrateful these companies are. WE are the ones that supported your game when it was on the PS2 and when it became a digital download and now you want to leave us in the dust, the people who lifted it up when it was being lost in a sea of games

It just shows that when you reach up high how easily you toss aside the people who supported you. I am not buying a whole new system now or high end computer just to play your game. Screw you. Next BGE you can keep it. I hope it fizzles just like the last one did.

TheLastGuardian20104694d ago

Agreed what a bunch of b.s

Developers have already shown that the 360, and ps3 have still yet to be MAXED out.

Frostbite 2, and Id Tech 5 wave hello.

Excuses, smh.

pr0digyZA4694d ago

Hopefully they are reaching these graphics then I can maybe understand. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

TheLastGuardian20104694d ago

@pr0digyZA

Lol. I would better understand if it looked like this more to be honest;

isarai4694d ago

Exactly what "Needs power" when talking about gameplay?

ClimateKaren4694d ago

Whatever. This is probably the biggest disappointment of this console generation for me. FFXIV is close behind, but that has a chance of shaping up before it makes it PS3-side at least.

Five Big Games Still Lingering Somewhere in Development Hell

This year promises to be a big year for gaming, and it will definitely be one of the greatest if any of these big MIA projects finally made it into gamers' hands.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel198996d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

Chocoburger97d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot96d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-96d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

I just need...Deep Down.
Please, it's been years!

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Now the Most Delayed AAA Game Ever

Ubisoft's action-adventure even beats Duke Nukem Forever which previously was the title with the longest wait between a game being first announced and it actually being released.

x_xavier_x565d ago

I understand that the original game is held in high esteem by some passionate fans. I tried to get into it on several occasions and I just lost interest after a few hours of gameplay.

Abracadabra565d ago

Beyond Good & Evil was a great game at the time... but, like most older games, it didn't age well. Gameplay and graphics are subpar by today's standards.

Wouldn't mind if they made a Remake with updated gameplay and graphics. Game turns 20 next year...

x_xavier_x565d ago (Edited 565d ago )

I feel the same way about the original Psychonauts. I gave it a shot every few years, and it just wasn't for me.

MadLad565d ago

I find it still very playable by today's standards, honestly.

But opinions are opinions.
I just feel it actually aged well.

Godmars290565d ago

Its was great middleware that someone thought would make for an even greater AAAA title.

For some reason...

0hMyGandhi564d ago

Beyond Good and Evil aged just fine, as did the original Psychonauts. Visually, sure, a bit rough (though both have a wonderfully refreshing art style that more than makes up for actual "visual fidelity".)

I'd say that you really need to give both of these games another shot. Psychonauts is one of the most original and utterly creative games I've ever played, and it's also one of the funniest as well. Psychonauts 2 was even better, and basically, a (well made) Pixar movie brought to life.

In all honesty, don't just play games and try to like them if you don't actually like them. It's perfectly fine to have your own tastes! we tend to use a tremendous amount of hyperbole when referring to games that are slightly older, and we speak only from memory, which *can* be deceiving.

I will say that I replayed the first Psychonauts again in the last few months, and still adore it. But like I said, this is all subjective.

poppatron564d ago

I gave up on the og psychonauts after about 5 or so hours because like many many people those weird sluggish controls just got the better of me while trying to get through some of the more testing platforming and swinging around parts.

BgaE I got way further in enjoyed, I think I saved it off in the end because something I was more interested in came out. The sequel looks like a completely different type of game in genre and scope, to the point it looked pretty ground breaking I thought. I’m still super low key excited for it, although I wouldn’t be surprised if next time it reared it’s head it looked very very different.

EazyC564d ago

It's an age thing. I'm always reminded of this when I whip out the old PS2, the vast majority of 3D games from the '00s just haven't aged well.

Good-Smurf564d ago

I have same feeling over Code Veronica X fans loved it to bits while I'm came out of it confused and disappointed.
I never played Beyond Good & Evil and I might get give it a try soon.

Cancel it or change the name for all I care. This isn't the Beyond Good & Evil I fell in love with.

Si-Fly565d ago

Weird take. Whilst we didn’t get proper gameplay reveals it looked very much how I would want BG&E to look now.

-Foxtrot565d ago (Edited 565d ago )

So you wanted an ambitious open world Beyond Good and Evil sequel that gameplay differs from the original and has no clear vision so far if it's a prequel (which no one wanted) or a sequel (with an evil Jade where she's not the main character, which no one wanted)

All people wanted was a full on sequel that's a platformer and continues Jades story.

-Foxtrot565d ago

Exactly

It's not Beyond Good and Evil

They had an idea for an ambitious new IP and thought it would sell better or had more of a safety net if they slapped on a franchise name.

isarai565d ago

Seriously, has absolutely nothing to do with the original other that a loose cameo.

CrimsonWing69565d ago (Edited 565d ago )

How hard is it to make a game like the original? Nobody wanted anything different and these idiots just insist on trying to make something completely unrelated AND they don’t even know what to make! So, yea, here we go with the delays. Ubisoft can be such an obnoxious publisher/developer.

InklingGirl565d ago

Just leave it alone, the original is a classic lets not ruin it.

Exvalos565d ago

I'm more worried about how fast that time went i still remember it being announced there is no way that was that many years ago NO WAY!

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Starts External Playtesting

Although Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had its problems, it has officially been confirmed by Ubisoft that it is still in active development.

Terry_B650d ago

It never looked like a Beyond Good and Evil game even.

TheExecutioner649d ago

Do you know that first game came out 2003 by the time this game released i would be probably 40.
Now majority of gamers who played the first one are not going even bother playing now.

This game is a refreshing and wants to be more appealing to all gamers.

Concertoine649d ago

I just don’t see a reason why it cant be a new IP in that case.

Terry_B649d ago

..and? do you think it looks like a game that appears to all gamers? Unlike the first part it gets mostly negative feedback, even from people that never played the first game.

Michiel1989649d ago

@Terry they also didnt play the 2nd.....

maelstromb649d ago

If the devs were smart, they'd launch a remake of the original a few months before the sequel to get the fans who have loved the original amped again and to also introduce it to a new generation to get them excited for what's to come. Seems like a win-win to me.

isarai649d ago

Looks like an awesome game, but it has nothing too do with BGE1, or anything to do with what fans wanted.

Yi-Long649d ago

If it would have been a SP action-adventure game like the first one, I would have been excited.
