Was I watching what everyone else saw?
The game looked amazing. I just don't understand.

Quagmire4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

Fangirls will be fangirls. They will pass on this game based solely on the fact that A: Ninja Theory are "allegedly" assholes, and B: That is NOT Dante.

For the record, if people would actually READ the bloody articles, it was CAPCOM's decision to change his appearance, NOT Ninja Theory's. Capcom wanted a redesign, NT did what they were told, and Capcom liked it so they went with it.

If Capcom wanted to keep the same appearance, NT wouldve have kept him the same.

If there is ANYONE to blame, its Capcom, not Ninja Theory. Say what you will about Heavenly Sword 2 and Enslaved, however I found them to be brilliant games, and I have no doubt NT will deliver again with DmC.

Ghost2504699d ago

yeah right enslaved sucked, repetitive combat, mediocre graphics, story was stupid as crap (especially the ending, MY GOD what the hell were they thinking). last time i check there is no such thing as an Heavenly sword 2.

LastDance4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

Having just looked at the E3 gameplay trailer - my thoughts were; Graphics were very poor and the art design and colours were BLAND BLAND BLAND - nothing stood out for me.

watch the trailer again and compare it to any other game from this generation - it looks bland like, Golden Axe Beast Rider bland.

Edit: I dont even like DMC games that much but that trailer even upset me.

sikbeta4699d ago

@Quagmire

I do blame Capcom, why the hell they give their IPs to other Devs in first place?

And about NT, Heavenly Sword was great and all, but there must be a reason of why they were kicked out or their partnership with Sony ended after just one game... waiting for *HS2 developed by Santa Monica Studio*

NewMonday4699d ago

Combat felt a bit lagy, way behind the standards set by Byonneta.

Deadman_Senji4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

"hurr fangirls durr"

Is that all you can say? You didn't play the older games so shut the hell up. You stand up on your soapbox and preach at us for disliking the unnecessary and unwanted change in a franchise we've all come to know and love, and you're acting like WE'RE the problem?

Bitch, we were here first. Anime Dante is how Dante is supposed to be. If you don't like it, don't try to change our franchise....go find something else that was actually made for your kind.

You've invaded a fanbase, people have every right to be pissed at you for defending NT, at NT for doing this and Capcom for handing it over to NT when there are other, more worthy devs out there both Eastern and Western.

Tired of this shit, you are not the fans of Devil May Cry. You are invaders and we want you OUT.

Also, you're on the losing side of the battle. Why would you want to be there in the vocal minority? I'm not trying to be mean but honestly...you don't belong. Pick your battles more wisely.

gaffyh4699d ago

I have no problems with Ninja Theory, there games have been good, but DMC has a fanbase, and this game looks like it is ruining DMC. Dante looks nothing like his character, the fighting looks very bland, and the graphics are worse than DMC4.

If that's not bad, I don't know what is. I'm a DMC fan, and I'm definitely considering skipping this game until Capcom realize why they should have listened to their fans.

Bereaver4699d ago

I'm sorry but I must disagree with ghost. I loved Enslaved. It was interesting.

thaking1554699d ago

@ Quagmire, The reason people keep going off the saying that fans are pissed that Dante has black hair or no white hair, and that Ninja Theory are A holes because they (also Capcom) have not listened to a single thing the fans have said.

Starting off they did not need to start over and reboot the game because DMC 4 was alright but leave Nero out because he sucked and was pointless, I was excited to hear about Ninja Theory making DMC until I saw the 1st trailer and then this messy crap trailer. It's E3 bro, the biggest gaming show all year and you bring an terrible unpolished and unfinished video and expect the masses to fall in and love the game... UMM still got a long way to go. The only fangirls I see are the ones that are defending this game , Capcom and Ninja theory. People are mad because the quality of the game looks PS2 graphics at best. And like I said, I understand it's a work in progress but come on I remember when Devil may cry 4 concept video first came out and then the official DMC4 trailer came out and yup the trailer and gameplay was looking head and shoulders above this title.

Ninja theory will fail to please the fans again, they did it Heavenly Sword and Enslaved.

Kurylo3d4699d ago

wait a second did i see his hair turn white when he did his demon trigger or whatever in this video. Maybe they are making this game lead up to the point that his hair turns white?

Otheros004699d ago

Dante was BORN WITH WHITE HAIR. DMC4 looked better than this game and It came out before it. Shows how much NT Su*ks.

I've played a lot of action games and I enjoyed watching the trailer because of song and the idea of the story but the gameplay is weak.

Capcom's Asura's Wrath looks more fun than DmC

Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 3 have spoiled me and Ninja Theory needs to look at the best DMC + action games and go back to their offices and retry.

crxss4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

Ya I agree with you, Bayonetta and DMC3 are the best in the genre but I think this DMC's story will blow those two away cause let's face it those didn't have the greatest plotlines. The gameplay looks fun based on what I saw and I'm a huge fan of DMC3 and Bayonetta. Not sure if anyone else noticed that the gameplay was slowed during most of the trailer and if you take that into account the gameplay looks a lot better... Maybe if they showed it at normal speed or if people FF it @1.5 speed on their PS3's when the trailer hits the PS Store they'll be able to see it's true potential.

Baka-akaB4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

but then again no one played dmc and bayo for the story , but for the gameplay ... Nor did the games even pretended to do otherwise

To create of a plot based franchise fine ... but to do that on an existing one ? meh

Ghost2504699d ago

amazing, pshhh... that gameplay was alright at best. but everything else sucked. graphics, animations, character models, environments (last time i checked, since when in the hell was dante ever in Britain?). enemies are plain, dante looks like a straight rip off from twilight. no sir you are wrong. any real fan knows that this game has FAIL written all over it.

FACTUAL evidence4699d ago

Wow...this was the most mediocre shit I sall all week besides wiiu...DMC4 owns this.....

crxss4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

Kid if you knew anything at all you would know DMC4 was mediocre at best. If you're going to say anything "owns" this you mine as well say DMC3 owns this since it's the best in the series.

Plus the Wii U was actually pretty impressive and most would disagree with you.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI4694d ago

@crXss

The point was that if it's worse than DMC4, there's A HUGE problem. Why compare it to 3 when you can use a fresh example that still proves the point?

Gamer_Z4699d ago

The only reason I would have gotten this game is because I wanted to play as the original Dante (he’s awesome) not some poser wannabe emo kid.

the_kutaragi_baka4700d ago

Looks like DMC with Dante turned into a black haired Anorexic Kid. -__-

sikbeta4699d ago

you forgot, girlie emo XD

crxss4699d ago

Have you ever seen RocknRolla? Go watch it. They're trying to use Johnny Quid's punk rocker style that's become popular recently in London to portray the new Dante.

darkdoom30004699d ago

No-one wanted a british dante.

I like the japanese inspired crazy dante.

elbeasto864699d ago

I thought it looked pretty badass. Same crazy over the top combos and moves.

Also, let's not just completely discard the disclaimer in the beginning of the trailer stating that this was still a work in progress.

Redempteur4699d ago

Sorry at this point in develloppement you have to have a vision of what you want to achieve with your battle system.

"work in progress" every game at E3 are work in progress that escuse is lame.

elbeasto864699d ago

Right and with this trailer it's clear that they have an idea of how they want it to work. They probably just mean that it needs tweaking and will most likely look better by the next trailer. The game is still not schedule to come out until Q4 of 2012, so there's still alot of time to make changes.

I guess I'm just saying that it's still too early to judge. Alot can change in a year and a half.

sasuke994699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

the gameplay was just ok average at best...everything else FAILED bid time the embarrassingly lame character and enemy design, the clunky animations the horrible visuals EVERYTHING, I have seen trailers for games in early pre-alpha looked soo much better than this

FLOP is written all over this game!

Redempteur4699d ago

teh gameplay looks slighty better than i expected and i expected the worst ..

it seems average at best for now.. sorry but i need more than that.

Still not impressed.

it's missing a lot but that trailer seems more DMC than the horrible first trailer apparition.

Baka-akaB4699d ago (Edited 4699d ago )

really average ...

It even looked like ripped from the far better American MC Gee's alice games .

Seriously guys do you remember ever being underwhelmed by a dmc trailer ? Even for dmc4 ?

I dont , and yet here we are with one that is very bland . Simply too cluttered, uninspired, and boring . and why was the camera cutting like it was during the fighting , with an effect even worse that in Enslaved ? Please tell me I wasn't the only one to notice that? .

I have one positive thought however ... at least the game is full of colors ... and not some emo goth fest

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC6h ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer7h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6027h ago(Edited 7h ago)

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya5h ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde5h ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

Cacabunga11d ago

It is a good studio.. i really enjoyed their dmc game that i platinumed it.
I did not try hellblade, because it doesnt tell me much.. Enslaved was very mehhh
Heavenly Sword was good not great. Amazing graphics back in the day but so repetitive and not so engaging in the long run.

stoney10111d ago

I really enjoyed Enslaved and Heavenly Sword back in the day. Wish they'd return to that sort of game. Hellblade isn't really for me to be honest. Not saying it's not a good game, I just couldn't get into it.

Popsicle11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

That is fair. I enjoyed Hellblade but can definitely see how it isn’t for everyone.

Would like to see how Heavenly Sword would have turned out if developed today. It’s easy to forget that games like Heavenly Sword were unprecedented and in their infancy.

shinoff218310d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Enslaved has been their favorite game for me. Loved the atmosphere.

1nsomniac11d ago

Heavenly sword was a staggeringly good game!! One of the most memorable of the PS3 generation in my opinion.

Babadook711d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Heavenly sword was good. It had ambitious graphics and as a result the frame rate suffered and as a result the gameplay suffered. But the story was phenomenal. Great acting, especially Andy Serkis as the king.

Jingsing11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

"Microsoft" we all read between the lines. We have seen the exact same thing happen with many of their other acquisitions

InUrFoxHole11d ago

Jesus man! Try reading the article at least.

cthulhucultist11d ago

One thing that pleasantly surprised me, was the Switch port, as back then it was my only console. The graphics were amazing and the artistic design helped a lot to enhance the visuals.I took some really impressive screen shots while playing which I still revisit them from time to time to remind me what a capable developer (QLOC) can achieve with weaker hardware.

5 Years Later, Devil May Cry 5 Still Quenches My Hack-And-Slash Thirst Like No Other

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Devil May Cry 5, the latest iteration in the iconic DMC franchise by Capcom, still holds its own as a fantastic hack-and-slash in 2024."
