Introducing DUST 514, a Persistent Shooter from CCP

PSblog: Hi everyone! I’m the Community Manager for DUST 514, an upcoming title from CCP. This is the first time you’ll have seen DUST 514 highlighted on the PlayStation.Blog and we’re happy that we can reveal more about our game to you.

DUST 514 is a very different type of game. Yes, many people say this about their respective game titles — everyone thinks their baby is special, right? We really mean it though.

looks good but im surprise its exclusive seeing the psn issues.

ChronoJoe4705d ago

Why? it's on PSN because PSN is free.

If it were on the 360 it would have to be a on separate server.

cross performing between pc and ps3 isn't the best idea(the guy mention it during the e3 presentation), snipping galore and not to mention aimbotting and wallhacks.

Ducky4705d ago (Edited 4705d ago )

I don't think they'll be playing against PC players.

The PC-side is EVE Online, whereas Dust 514 would be on the PS3 only.
Or at least, that's what I got out of the article.

Yea they did a poor job of explaining what the ps3vpc features were. If you have never seen anything about EVE ever the trailer really didn't mean anything, but I think they tried to show off how the ground battles with DUST (which have not existed in eve) would effect a battle in space by EVE players.

The problem was that it was just too cinematic for people to make any correlation besides "whoa space stuff, shooter, story, meh"

You also saw the prices of all the units being sent to the battle, another bit that would be lost on the average viewer, just "next gen cgi wankery" like the arbitrary numbers in the Michael Phelps trailer.

One more thing, though, the dialogue mentioned being a hired gun, and one shot changing the course of a battle. I think this means that you will be taking out contracts from pc players, and the better your stats, the more they are willing to pay you, and thus you gain recognition as a good player, and get better paid contracts eventually.

This would mean noob-hell, which from what I understand, is right in line with the EVE world lol.

did they reveal how the console matches will effect the mmo?

They hinted at it, for sure. Check out my post above

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3002d ago (Edited 3002d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3002d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3002d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3002d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3002d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3002d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3002d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3002d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
