yeah,but finishing the game on the good side yesterday i agree with this review,and i'm a fan of the first game,still one of the best there is,but now i didn't enjoy playing it like i did when i played the first one,the missions become a bore-fest after a while,and the best part of the game is the first part of the map,where you will spend it in the main city,then the second part is swamp,full of water,and guess what?Cole dies if he falls into water,the second part of the map is so depressing that i forced myself to finish it,then comes the third part,again a big let down,you will spend it in an industrial area,again depressing almost empty

I guess the story was too good to mention it in the review? No one at gamespot accounts story when they do reviews? They ridicule the karma system yet, while listening to podcast beyond they spoke about it holding you more accountable for your actions, and I actually played the demo and saw this for myself... what a seemingly inaccurate review. I question your credibilty Gamespot, don't you know we play these games???

I've played so many games that felt like 10's to me that reviewers scored really low. This right here will be another one of those titles. I love part 1 and will love this one even more. It's sad that a lot of sheeple miss out on great games cause they see a review and form an opinion based on someone elses. Just dumb. But whatever, their loss, not mine. I'll be enjoying this in 4 more days!! :)

Based on what I played in the demo; The enemy variety has improved, the combat has improved, battle situations are much better set up with more intensity, the streets have more activity that makes for a better atmosphere...

I REALLY don't think they justified calling this a "disappointing sequel"

It's possible that IGN praised it because they where able to get an exclusive review before Sony lifted the "no review" policy from other outlets.

It's not unique to Sony and I've seen it with games from Nintendo, Microsoft, Konami, Activision etc: I noticed that every time IGN gets an exclusive review the score tends to be tad higher then other reviewers.

I played the Demo earlier today and loved what I played. From what there was everything was pretty much a more polished and better looking version of the original. Little tweaks made the game alot of fun. Like not having to push the button to fire bursts over and over(Evil Cole does but I play good so in the final version that won't be a problem for me) The free climbing seemed alot more responsive which is impressive as the first game was really precise in that area. The new Melee weapon(The Amp) is really fun to mess around with in addition to the tweaked and new powers.

I'll be getting it as soon as I have the money(Wonder if I can still get it cheap at target)

Yeah, this just goes to show that everyone has different tastes and preferences regarding games. I remember that Official Playstation Mag gave Infamous a 7...which is a good score, but from playing the Infamous 1 demo, it was at least an 8.5(great) for me.

EDIT: Ahh..I see what hes saying now. If you watch the 2:13 mark, theres a mission where Cole has to save hostages. But even if you kill the enemies AND the hostages...you get good karma points. Thats actually a legit problem. Whats stop me from getting it...but I'd dock points for that if I were reviewing the game.

I don't know if that was a bug or not but in the demo when you killed pedestrians as well as committing a good dead, depending on the amount of each, karma could shift in either direction or remain unchanged.

Exactly. I hate when people change their decision to buy a game base on a review score. If you played the first and got the demo for the second, why do you need review scores? Now if the details of the review show serious techical flaws and a very short game, then I would understand. The score really is not that important and is more subjective than the review itself. Gamers give reviews way too much power and respect.

I also deplore when people cry bias/conspiracy because the game, for their favorite system, got a bad score. Childish really.

Real "Gamers" don't care about review. I consider myself to be a real gamer, and I don't care for reviews to be honest.

I do however find their inconsistence to be annoying and a disservice to people that actually care for such pointless opinions. I find reviewers are giving their favorite franchises, developers/publisher, and game genre too much of a curve in their reviews. While at the same time, they tend to do the opposite developers/publisher, franchises, and genre that they are not fond of.

You see, This is what I love despite the ridiculously low score infamous 2 recieved from gamespot, over half of the comments here don't even let it detract them from purchasing.

Sucker punch sought out to make a great ps3 title and they did just that. There's no way that I would let some persons opinion detract me from a developers hard work.

Ive played the demo, Ive seen the previews. Sucker punch was FAR more deserving of a better score than that.

These are the same people that give Crackdown 2 7/10. So a game that only took 2 years to come out after its first game, improves upon the 1st one in every way and pushes the graphics in open world games, gets the same score as a game that took 3.5 years to come, looks worse then the original and is the EXACT same goddamn city but is the Red Dead Undead Nighmare expansion to the 1st game but full price. Gamespot should have give up after that Kane and Lynch review guy left lol.

Hmm..well if you watch the video review, it seems that McShea loved the first Infamous so much that he expected a MAJOR overhaul for the sequel. He gave Infamous 1 a 9. For me, the changes are MORE than enough for a $60 purchase..but I guess to each their own.

@TheHater- You make a good point about him COMPLETELY neglecting the fact that you can absorb electricity to recharge health. He shouldn't have complained about that considering it was ALSO in Infamous 1..and I don't remember him complaining about it then.

However, I do agree with him that it seems that there are issues with the morality system. If your on a mission to save hostages, how does it make sense for you get rewarded with good karma if you kill the hostages along with the enemies?

I'm hoping SP could patch that..cause its a legitimate problem in my eyes.

Yeah, If you watch the review, you will also notice this guy had no idea about what the fuck was going on in the game.

He complain that your health takes too long to regenerate, yet you doesn't know that absorbing electricity from the environment restores Cole's health. Did this guy even play the game? That was mention in the tutorial and this guy claim to play the game?

Forgive me, but I cannot take anyone serious when it comes to something so simple as this.

Edit: the morality system do seems to be a concern. However, I just cannot get pass the fact that this guy is suppose to be a professional reviewer, yet he completely missed one of the very basic element of the gameplay.

Yeah I was expecting an overhaul as well. From the demo it looks like the same stuff we saw in the first game. Controls are smoother, but facial animations look pretty dated (LA Noire is spoiling us in that area). I wish cole could fly like static shock could. It still looks like a fun game though. Fans of the first should get into it pretty fast.

It plays just like the first one, also health regen fast once you get the giga drain upgrade.

there are some really awesome powers in this game, my all time fav is the sling shot one. makes travelling up so much easy.

Overall great game, only issue i have is the lack of music when playing missions. Infamous 1 had an awesome soundtrack and yet i have a hard time hearing I2 or they don't play it as often as they should.

Also i have no idea what they mean by story decision are black and white. I have never killed both hostages and Enemy at the same time. I'm playing through evil so i killed all the hostages.

Also the guy said blastshards become hard to get or tricky, not true at all. All it takes is a simple push of circle to drop, plus later on in the game you get an upgrade to fling you to them.

BTW i wonder what difficulty these guys are playing at. I'm playing on Hard and let me tell you its not hard at all.

OMG these are morons. Black an white throughout the whole game? Um no, it's called going next to an object or down enemy and absorbs its energy.
Notice two parts when he said that, one he's on a truck. Zeke rigged that truck with an energy transformer thing. The second part is in the graveyard. I will give him credit hear, the power is down and your fighting swamp monsters here. By throughout the whole game there is so much to absorb.

Also another issue i have with the game is it lacks a statistic menu.

7.5 IS a bad score, and I can tell you why...

In a generation where games cost up to 60bucks brand new many don't have the funds to get every game they want. This means they have to decide between whats worth an immediate purchase and what they should wait on. This means that if you had to decide between a 7.5 game and a 9 game, ur gonna go with the one thats higher rated.

Many might not solely base their purchase on just the reviews but regardless it is a factor. Too many ppl say its crap, u start to believe it.

So basically what these scores come down to...
at 60bucks only 9s+ are must buys,8-8.9s are negotiable, all other wait for the bargain bin if at all.

PS:FYI for any wondering, I do not believe this game to be a 7.5, just like the first game it is at least a 8.5. Anything below that is far to low.

I know, it's weird. I mean GameSpot used to be one of my favorite reviewers back in the days, but it changed lately. I don't know since i didn't touch the final copy of inFamous 2, but based on what I've played it's far better than the competition, which means it's worth more than 7.5. People will say it's a good score, but for me a 7.5 isn't great for a big game like inFamous.

At the end of the day, it's the reviewers opinion-- I dont know why 7.5 is such a bad score for you, just because it's an exclusive doesn't mean it should score 9.0+ by every media outlet.

Besides, if you take reviews with any grain of salt then I assume you read multiple reviews. I don't always agree with them, but it's annoying how websites are constantly praised then immediately banished for not doing something everybody expects. You're not ever going to have a website that is synchronized with your own opinions, Gamespot has been a great site as far as I'm concerned-- much more detailed reviews than IGN.

To your credit, I see a lot of Gamespot members complaining his expectations were too high, but regardless, in the end, the idea of reading reviews is to get general opinions.

It's ok to have different 'opinions' on something like Infamous 2 - but when something much higher profile like gears 3 comes around suddenly those differentiated 'Opinions' become no more.

This game set a precedent for Gamespot I'll be holding it to them when Gears3 rolls around - Having a much prettier sequel and similar expanded game mechanics actually lowers the score down 1.5 points.

My problem is the guy complains about things in the game that have easy to fix in-game solutions. I like also Gears even if i think it's really overhyped, nothing really great in the game, it's only linear shooting with a linear scenario and i don't really play the multiplayer. I prefer FPS. I tried the beta, it was cool but nothing phenomenal but i respect your opinion if this is the best game you ever played, happily for me i've played really better games.

But yes i think Gears will have great scores, not only because it's a good game but also because on 360 this years there was not so much exclusives games, so i think with a big hype marketting it will be considered as the best game ever on 360.
To me when i read infamous 2 review, i feel that the score could have been given to gears 1 and 2.

I've played both the Halo and Gears games on my friend's Xbox 360, and not had much of a strong liking to any of the titles. I haven't found them to be anywhere near as good as people have claimed them to be.

I think we've had this conversation before, but you have to appreciate that people don't always have the same preferences. I've never liked Gears of War's sluggish movement or the ass-cam quick movement, or its (in my opinion) generic brutish Unreal-inspired characters.

I appreciate Halo's lore and background story, but not its floaty gameplay or characters or anything else about the game.

But let me guess, you're gonna be in denial that I've played the games. Should I even bother?

And i've played both the Gears games. They were ok. Enjoyed the part in 2s campaign where you are in the tunnel, it's pitch black, and you only have a lamp to show you the way.

I can understand why you love it but as has been mentioned it isn't for everyone. The cumbersome nature of character movement put me of a bit. So I went back to L4D.

They've been biased, not necessarily against Sony, but some of their reviews nitpick the hell out of amazing exclusive game like this one does and seem give overhyped but still good-great games even better scores than they honestly deserve. It's when reviewers get into details that are so insignificant that they could be overlooked or do something stupid like complain about the same grey/red dying screen that's standard in every single FPS and both Uncharted and Gears game which is fixable by absorbing electricity which an be found in 90 percent of the game, it just sounds like the guy honestly sucks at the game so much he had to find a way to fault the game for it when most would find it to just be a good challenge.

Let's be honest, if McShea gave this a 9 or 9.5, NO ONE would be arguing. He gave Uncharted 2 a 9.5, I doubt anyone has a problem with that. With scores like 8 and 7, the members here start to nitpick reviews looking for any conceivable way to deem it "unworthy" before they themselves have played the whole campaign.

I liked the demo. It feels like a re-skinned upgrade to the first game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It looks good, runs smoother, plays better etc. If the demo missions are anything to go by, they seem virtually the same as the first game, for better and for worse.

Look at crysis 2 the game is not bad by any means, but that game is a complete step back from crysis 1 and got an 8.5 its has ton of glitches, no plot, is not a sandbox anymore, just a linear shooter like the rest, but still 8.5.

To me american reviews these days are all about shooters, if your not a shooter then you get a 7 except from european sites that are more balanced in this area, take as example castelvania lord of shadow the exact same thing happened here.

It`s happened to almost all PS3 exclusive this year. LBP 2, Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Killzone 3, MLB 11 The Show, PixelJunk Shooter 2, Yakuza 4, and now Infamous 2, the ones I have played are leaps and bounds better then the previous ones, yet they scored lower.

I`m expecting the remaining PS3 exclusives this year will follow suit. Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, Resistance 3, and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.

He says gameplay is reptitive, Then says the fight scenes are fast and exciting. Then says the fight sequences arent quite as enjoyable.

Then he says the game gets boring because you keep having to move around the map, But then he says exploring the city is "crazy fun" and "the best part" of the game.

A 7.5 isn't a bad score at all, but I know that this game deserves better. GameSpot's reviews these days should always be taken with a grain of salt.

lol did anyone else who has played infamous 1 get kinda pissed about how he complained about spending half his time playin the game in black and white? Gotta admit his criticism of the HUD's low health color is kinda petty in a post Splinter Cell/Batman Arkham Asylum world. I spent most of Batman AA looking at thermal visioned skeletons lol, yet look at the scores it got. Even in SC Conviction the color leaves the screen like every minute. inFamous has color restoring health everywhere, from the cars to just bio-leeching a civilian.

What's absolute derp is the pic they use, with the caption about looking like its 1984 (black & white) when he's STANDING RIGHT BESIDE a power generator that would fully restore his health & color! lol, oops? Listen to R'as al Ghul and mind your surroundings dude!

I said that ps3 exclusives this year would get nitpicked TO DEATH and recieve unjustified low scores without much credence or full reasons as to why, and BAM!!!!!

So far in 2011, every single 1st party ps3 exclusive that has been released TO DATE have gotten lower scores, and for unjustified reasons.

Little big planet 2 was nitpicked, killzone 3 was severely nitpicked, and now infamous 2 is currently recieving the same treatment despite each of them adding much more than their predecessors.

Mark my words. Uncharted 3 will get hammered unfairly by the critics. And it truly is very disheartening to the companies who work their asses off to entertain their fanbase only to have some jaded journalist slam their hardwork with an unjustified low score.

Sony doesn't hold 'Review Events.' Many reviewers picked Killzone 3 apart because Sony didn't provide 'proper time to analyze the multiplayer' which is code for not paying for a fancy hotel suite and giving them a whole weekend to do what they like or review the multiplayer (Like Activision did, and Bungie/Epic does). It's a subtle message from reviewers that publishers need to play ball if they want good reviews for their AAA game - I'm not even sure that the reviewers know they're doing it.

In short Sony's games have to really earn scores if they're going to get them. While high-budget games Epic/Activision/Ubi and now EA make will get unjustly high scores. There's a reason why you find much hypocrisy about similar games doing the same things, where one game gets docked, the other doesn't. It's not so much that Sony's games are being picked apart, it's that other games aren't for the same reasons.

It really sounds like they don't know how to play the game. I'm not saying all of gamespot is bias, or that this reviewer is obviously a fanboy, I'm saying it looks like they don't know how to play the game. It would be like playing Metal Gear Solid without using stealth or Gears of War and not knowing there is a cover system.

I say that because the reviewer was waiting for health to come back for starters...You just suck energy from somewhere or someone. You don't have to wait. From the demo (and from the original game) there is plenty of energy to be found. Even if you need you smack a civilian to take it. Secondly, enemies in the first game were not that hard, even on hardest and even the bosses. I don't know which enemies the reviwer is complaining about, but if you're complaining about what is now a standard enemy, you probably weren't very good at the game (Or it's Demon Souls, in which ANYTHING can be lethal).

Point is, while 7.5 isn't bad, if the reviewer learned how to play the game, I bet it would score higher with this particular review.

All in all, reviews are just paid opinions, I played the demo and loved it and I still have my pre-order and I'm excited for it. Everyone would be wise to remember that the reviewer doesn't say how much fun you will have with the game, just have much they did.

A. I didn't read a single review for Infamous. It was a day one buy. So I didn't know he did that one as well.

B. That being said, why the hell doesn't he know how to absorb power to clear the screen? If he had said, I don't like that the screen gets harder to see when you take damage. That's a fine critique. He said I don't like that it takes so long to clear afterwards. Absorb power and bam, screen clear. So yes, I still don't think he knows how to play the game. In fact, the fact that he played the first one makes him look dumber. Either he never knew about that ability or he forgot about it (even though the game tells you).

But again, other complaints, like morality system awarding you even after you kill the civilians you were supposed to rescue is 100% valid.

When watching the review, it seemed to be that he made the complaint when he was just trying to get out of dodge. If he tried to absorb power, he would be killed in the process.

I'm sure there's times during the game where absorbing power may not be a feasible option.

That may very well be true, but is that something to dock points for? It's called a hard section. If you fought better, you don't get hit as much. so yes, there may be times of the game where if you are damaged you may nt be able to recover power fast ennough. Just like any other game in which you die, you don't get infinite time to recover.

Basically, it's a non-issue he's moaning about which puts the review into question.

I've been playing this game the last 4 days. This game is awesome! It truly has become a great game over the first one. The graphic's will be the first thing you notice. It has a level of Uncharted 2 polish to it. The game play is even better. You'll notice Cole is a tad faster and more nibble now. The weapons upgrades are just beast!

There is a lot of the same style as the first one as far as missions, side missions, saving people, healing people and arresting bad guys. But last night, there was a patch for the game put out. Now you can make your own in game missions for other's to play. Yep, now there's green icons of player in game missions that you get exp for. You can rate them as well. They are ever type of mission the game has normally that you can create now.

I won't give away any spoilers. If you've beat the first inFamous game. You are reward in this game with instant level 1 stats. You'll start off with the power the glide on electric wires and can hover with the blast from your hands. So you jump right into the action on this game. Trust me, the game is awesome and don't listen to any reviews. Play it yourself and see.

Common sense dictates that this should apply to all games. However, I've seen the opposite on this site. Only when a PS3 game an ok score, everyone says "It's only a score" or "The game is great, don't listen to reviews" etc.

I've been lurking on this site for the last year and a half and have noticed anytime a high profile Microsoft game will get a mediocre review, fanboys from all over will bash/mock the hell out of it.

I own both a PS3 and 360 and game on my PC, and don't take anyone's side, and I've easily noticed this over the years on N4G. Instead of enjoying games for what they are, people just take sides of companies.

There's no way this game is worse than Red Faction Armageddon.
Armageddon was a dissapointing sequel, and it was barely a red faction game save the destruction. It became a generic third person shooter. Compared to other games in the Genre, Dead Space 2 whoops it's ass.
Infamous 2 improved on lots of things from it's predecessor yet it felt familiar like a sequel should. Compared to it's competition, Infamous 2 is a marvelous open world game, completely owning the likes of Crackdown 2, etc.
It simply is not fair.

A study involved locking a case person in a room, he is told if he pushes the button someone dies, if he doesn't he dies. Is that not deep enough? It's a blanket statement, I mean maybe the other person is old your young, he is meerly told that they are alive. A simple question, a complex answer.

Did you see what I did there? Made a statement based on an opinion AND USED FACTUAL AND DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT MY STATEMENT

There's also going to be headshot challenge in MW3... guess what it happens a lot. Think of an original challenge for the game, go on... times up. IT'S CALLED BEING A GAME!

Just to correct one of your comments, didn't he say the choices between good and evil weren't as convoluted as before? As in they were easy to choose good or evil? Cause I can think of at least two instances in Infamous 1 that you'd made a choice and found out it was not the choice you thought it would be. If that's what he's saying then I agree, cause I'd miss the hard choices, but it's a minor issue. For the most part it was easy to tell which was good and which wasn't.
