L.A Noire map is this big

Team Bondi has created 8 square miles of LA, so that means the map is huge, isn’t it? A look at the four screens below show that the game’s map is indeed vast and begging for exploration.

can't wait to play this game.

DarkCharizard_4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

LA Noire vs Uncharted 3 vs Legend of Zelda SS vs Portal 2 vs Gears of War 3.

EDIT: Thanks immortal, i made the correction :) Though I think Skyrim & Dark Souls have great potential, we can't say for sure that they will be GotY quality.

RedDead4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

Personal preference here, but I would take Skyrim over all of them. More than likely, if it is what it looks like(Morrowind Oblivion cross over with upgrades)

Also Demons souls was my Game of the year for whenever I got it. I think it comes down to what people look for in games, normally I use other games to hold me off until the next big RPG. Also don't be surprised if The Witcher 2 is Game of the year. It probably will be but of course it will get looked over because it is a pc game. I wish I could play it, haven't got the specs though.

Well anyway, LA Noire looks like it will be good. I like when games do something different than anyone else, like Heavy Rain.

@below.....Why not Gears 3? from what i've heard it rapes Gears 2 and surpasses Gears 1, an obvious GotY contender. And LoZ? Seriously doubting LoZ. I don't even like LoZ even but it is one of the most loved and respected franchises in gaming

the_best_player4723d ago

Legend of Zelda SS and Gears of War 3, HELL NO!

DarkCharizard_4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

Well personally speaking I'd take Xenoblade Chronicles over Skyrim as my most anticipated RPG any day. Also, you guys are such noobs.

One says "LOZ SS and GoW3 HELL NO!"

The other says "from what i've heard it rapes Gears 2 and surpasses Gears 1, an obvious GotY contender. And LoZ? Seriously doubting LoZ. I don't even like LoZ"

hahahaha

DelbertGrady4723d ago

Logic says Uncharted 3 won't get amny GOTY awards. Not because it's a bad game but because Uncharted 2 won so many last year. My bets are on L.A. Noire and Portal 2.

Bear_Grylls4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

Take gears 3 and Zelda out and add Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2 and your list is perfect.

No Gears has been or ever will be GOTY material.

kingdavid4722d ago (Edited 4722d ago )

Skyrim is definite goty potential.

AngryTypingGuy4722d ago

GOTY will be LA Noire vs. Uncharted 3 vs. Gears of War 3 vs. Skyrim. My money is on Skyrim.

mikeslemonade4722d ago

8 sq miles is on the tiny side. Square root 8 is like 2.7. I just ran 3 miles in 22 minutes. The game does look more detailed than most open world games.

No Way4722d ago (Edited 4722d ago )

It all depends on how you use the 8 square miles, though, wouldn't ya say?
L.A. Noire looks very compact with lots of road and other little goodies.
Where as a game like .. Just Cause 2 where there is a bunch of emptiness.
Then 8 square miles isn't really of anything to be too overly happy about.

BigBoss074722d ago

Skyrim definitly looks to be getting either GOTY this year or RPG of the year without a doubt. I'm a big fan of demon souls and can't wait for dark souls, but I consider it one of those "under the radar" games. Its a good thing that it is though because thats what make demon souls so awesome.

Resistance_lord4722d ago

Skyrim will at least have 4 Goty Awards :]..
And One from me :D

DERKADER4722d ago

I think it's funny that a couple a screen shots of a map gets turned into a GOTY debate. By the way there are about 2 dozen GOTY awards. They will all win at least one GOTY award or they can just create a new GOTY awards to give to their game.

sergiospain4722d ago

LA Noire - Portal 2 - Skyrim - Battlefield 3 - and here either uncharted 3 or Zelda.

I don't think Gears will make it to the list and uncharted is going the same direction too, you know, the "another sequel that doesn't innovate" syndrome. Zelda could make the cut if it's a good game, because, you know, being a Zelda, being good + being Zelda = being awesome for everyone.

But that still doesn't matter because Skyrim is gonna take GOTY no matter what. Sorry Portal 2, you are a great game, but too short. Sorry LA Noire, you will be a great game, but in the sandbox category Skyrim will be superior. Sorry Battlefield 3, but I find it difficult for you to win being a FPS, even though you look great.

Oh and yeah, the underdog of this year will be of course Dark Souls. Maybe not so much since Xbox360 owners are hyping it up since it went multiplat (owners that probably didn't even know Demon's souls exists...)

YodaCracker4722d ago (Edited 4722d ago )

@Bear_Grylls

Gears of War won 30 GOTY awards in 2006, and was only second place to Oblivion.

http://gotypicks.blogspot.c...

Gears of War 2 won 8 GOTY awards in 2008, putting it as the fifth best game of the year.

Yea it looks great and the map is really huge, I can't wait either

immortal844723d ago

@ WiiS3:

Don't forget about Gears 3, Skyrim, The Witcher 2 and Dark Souls.

BTW Mass Effect 3 has been delayed it's due to be released in 2012 now. So it isn't a contender for GOTY 2011 :)

Pintheshadows4722d ago

I was just starting to forget about the ME3 delay and you bought it back up :(

NobleGamer4722d ago

Getting this next week :D Hey does anyone know if you can swim yet? How extensive is the free-roaming?

tja904722d ago

Rockstar has confirmed that Phelps will not be able to swim. It is the second yellow rockstar comment on the linked page. http://www.rockstargames.co...

AEtherbane4722d ago

consider me impressed. This game is looking absolutely incredible!

saladthieves4722d ago

I want to know how they are going to split a huge open world on 3 Xbox 360 discs and make it playable. It would suck if I travel across the map and halfway through, I'm met with a message that says pop in disc 2.

stealth500k4723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

does having a huge map make it good?

really no

If anything it makes travel more of a bore and like every rockstar game theres hardly anything to do in these maps but go from point A to point B

Rival_314723d ago

That makes you sound impatient.

aaabbbccc43244723d ago

there are other games for you sir.
bigger is better

GLoRyKnoT4722d ago

there are (other 4him) & thats what she said :) (so its gotta be true:) Got my pre-order in! BIG(map)W00T!

GameZenith4723d ago

So would you rather have linear corridor game?

OMGitzThatGuy4722d ago

Killzone 2 and 3 are good games dont insult them

nickjkl4722d ago

so what your saying is as long as a game has big maps it automatically makes it a better game

nope im not seeing it making cod maps bigger wont make it a better game

thrasherv34722d ago

@nickjkl: Actually UO added HUGE maps and made the game better.

GameZenith4722d ago

@nickjkl

I'm not saying that having huge maps automatically makes a game good, but in no way does having huge maps automatically makes the game bad.

In fact, depending on the type of game, having huge maps actually DOES make the game better. Now there are games with huge maps that are still bad like Two Worlds, and the True Crimes games. However having huge maps with a very lively enviornment really does add to the atmosphere and immersion of a videogame, take Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, and GTA4 for example.

Skyrim and L.A. Noire would be similar.

nickjkl4722d ago

but you disagreed with the fact that bigger wasnt always better

meaning you think bigger is better

now your saying that bigger isnt always better

make up your mind

HebrewHammer4722d ago

You know what, I'm inclined to agree with stealth500k. GTAIV really lacked the "extracurricular" activities present in PS2-era GTA titles, and LA Noire sounds like it will be going the way of Mafia 2: 99.9% focus on story, leaving behind a huge open world to take advantage of for side missions and fun distractions. I mean, isn't that the point of an open world game? I think RDR did a great job with those fun little distractions and unlockables, but LA Noire looks to be taking a very different approach. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it as much as the next guy, but I think the city, albeit expansive, will give little incentive to explore it. It seems the only thing outside of the story missions are collectibles..... Sounds like Mafia II's Playboys... What a bore...

Figboy4722d ago

Actually, LA Noire has 40 or so side quests you can complete while doing the main story quests.

Your police scanner will inform you of stuff (purse snatchers, robberies, suicide jumpers, etc), and you can respond to the call.

The game does share a similarity with Mafia 2 in that there is a heavy emphasis on story, and less emphasis on sandbox gameplay (LA Noire is open world, not a sandbox), but Noire looks to be more intriguing from a game play perspective, and many people, such as my self, are excited about exploring an environment based off of a real city that they are familiar with.

MARKUS_MAX1MUS4722d ago

Agreed^

I think alot of open world games have lost their fun element since San Andreas, half the time when playing these games I cant help but think....

"it would be really good if.."

San Andreas pretty much had it all and I think Rockstars last GTA game really took a step backward in content and offered pretty graphics and sound instead.

THe setting of LA Noire doesnt particulary appeal to me but I will still check it out.

InLaLaLand4722d ago

The map seems similar to the first True Crime: Streets of La game.

@Figboy, the police scanner reminds me of Yakuza 4 (Tanimura but no karma system) and True Crime which you get a karma system like Infamous 1.

I'm not really looking forward to this game. I think you beat it once and never complete it again but that's just me.

awiseman4722d ago

go play killzone 3 then since linear corrodor movement is your style

Mikeyy4722d ago

Buy san andreas, k thx bai.

TheTruth894723d ago (Edited 4723d ago )

how the hell this can be possibile with the three discs version?? change disc during map exploration?

LOL

@below
So... the discs are necessary just because of some TEXT files with scripts? o bunch of MB?

No.

xPhearR3dx4723d ago

With the use of a brain. The world is on all three discs, but with different parts of the story.

NukaCola4722d ago (Edited 4722d ago )

Will there only be certain sidequests on discs? The main story is broken up amongst 3 discs, but what about all the extra stuff? How does that work on 3 discs? It would be stupid to lost out on large chunks of sidequests because the game has to jump to the next disc after doing a story mission.

aaabbbccc43244723d ago

its not during exploration its when you start a new case

Daz4723d ago

how can people diagree with these 2 above ? does the truth hurt?

QuodEratDemonstrandm4722d ago

I think some people just like to disagree for giggles. Don't know how that would work though.

"Hahahaha.... I just clicked disagree, I'm funny.... hahahahaha."

See? It's not really working for me.

Now watch as I get disagrees.

lucifon4723d ago

No the story doesn't just involve text files with scripts, voice acting will take up a huge portion of space.

NobleGamer4722d ago

PS3 version for sure. 3 discs = LOL

sp1deynut4722d ago

No online for trophies, downloading updates, or keeping up with friends while you play = LOL

Orange Juice4722d ago

Woah! You can still earn trophies and download updates even during this temporary downtime! Way to not have a ps3, nut.

theaceh4722d ago

Someone please tell David Jaffe that Blu-Ray says hello.

BrianG4722d ago

Well, good news Spideynut

PSN is coming back up tonight into early morning, depending on your region. So looks like we will have online.

Also as the above said, we can already earn trophies and download updates while the network is down. Just proves you don't have a PS3, or don't play it.

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor11d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut8511d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius11d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius11d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor11d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

12 Years Later, L.A. Noire is Still an Excellent Experience

There was a lot to love about Rockstar and Team Bondi's 2011 open world title.

One I never finished. I've been looking at the ps4 version off Amazon the last few months just never bit

Knightofelemia116d ago

It's worth playing LA Noire is one of my favorite Rockstar games. But I would also check out pawnshops or thrift stores if you want the game dirt cheap. Someone may have been dumb enough to dump the game.

andy85116d ago

Baffles me when people have these opinions about acclaimed games 😂

RhinoGamer88117d ago

100% agree... not perfect, but an engaging/refreshing experience.

sagapo116d ago

Agree, at time of release those facial expressions were amazing! They still hold strong even today imo.
The game on its own was good. Something fresh, but sidequests were a bit meh after a while.

Nacho_Z116d ago

I picked it up on sale recently, going to play it next summer. I'll get more out of it this time, first time around I treated the open world like it was GTA and goofed about, whereas now I'll play it with more respect. RDR2 has trained me well.

I also hadn't read Raymond Chandler at the time so presumably that'll add another layer of enjoyment too.

1nsomniac116d ago (Edited 116d ago )

Absolutely stunning game. So underrated. Played through it again last year and it still stands up so well. Like many of rockstars games it’s actually a far better experience on PC. I didn’t enjoy it as much on console. Completed it at least 3 times on pc.

The rumours of a sequel are awesome news despite the fact I think Rockstar are now the shell of the company they once were.

SyntheticForm116d ago

Team Bondi made a hell of a game.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
