PS3 Exclusives That Disappointed, We Expected More

GamingUnion.net: Last week we chronicled the very best exclusive titles produced for Sony's big black behemoth - games that represent creativity, execution and vision at their finest. This time we're going to take a look at the console's seedy underbelly, so to speak.

Haze makes it onto any list that starts with 'disappointing', regardless of the genre.

mephman4765d ago

Oh Haze.

The people who bought that really got trolled. I can't believe it sold as many as it did.

ikkeweer4765d ago (Edited 4765d ago )

I bought it for 5 Euros last year. Apart from the dialogue it was ok. 5 bucks well spent.
Also, I really want to play Lair, I heard its pretty fun after they released the patch.

And RE2 should never be on that list anyways.

MaxXAttaxX4765d ago

Seeing as how RE2 is in there, I assume that when they say "disappointing" they don't necessarily mean "bad".

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4765d ago

dead horse beating article is beating dead horse.

gman_2974765d ago

Yeah, it was. But I got it at GameStop for free after doing one of their "Buy 2, get 1 free" deals or whatever. For a game that would've been $10, it wasn't that bad. But I can see everyone being disappointed due to all of the hype.

Moral of the story: DON'T OVERHYPE SHIT THAT DOESN'T HAVE A HISTORY.

You could say, "Well, they made TimeSplitters!" Did they make this a game meant for humor and arcade action? No? Did they make any previous TimeSplitters for this generation of consoles? No? Thing about it people. It'll save you at least your disappointment.

Ducky4765d ago

You want history?
It's a mystery.

thugbob4765d ago

KZ3 should be on the list in my opinion.

Haze did disappoint a lot. The game itself is pretty decent, but the online co-op was ridiculous. All the TK-ing going around was so effin' annoying.

Hardedge4765d ago

Hahah, good on your part then, you missed out on a lot of frustration.

cfountain4765d ago

i personally enjoyed White Knight Chronicles and Resistance 2. Im also planning on getting WKC2 and the PSP version and Resistance 3.

mephman4765d ago

Loved Resistance 2 as well, but it didn't live up to what I expected from the game. Multiplayer was great, single-player... not so much.

DrHouse4765d ago

Well resistance never really had a solid story, the same goes for Killzone. AND resistance is arguably the best multiplayer offering of all the ps3 exclusives.
KZ2 could have held that but those awful controls ruined it, kz3 isnt much better either.

MaxXAttaxX4765d ago

Killzone actually has a good story. They just haven't applied it well enough into the game.
Resistance' multiplayer isn't THE best, but it's definitely one of the better ones.

You say it was awful, I say it was unlike everything else.

Hardedge4765d ago

Loved it too, but it really was quite a disappointment.

Unknown_SNAKE4765d ago

yeah me too i enjoyed resistance 2 in my opinion Afrika instead of Resistance too

remanutd554765d ago

i loved White Knight Chronicles , cant wait for WKC 2 and WKC psp

cfountain4765d ago

me too. too many people letting reviews keep them from playing good games this gen.

Redempteur4765d ago (Edited 4765d ago )

WKC only problem is that his story was cut in 2. i wonder what will reviewers nitpick next time to dumb down this very good game.

Dasteru4765d ago

Beat WKC 3 times and enjoyed it, ill admit the combat system was half baked and the story was somewhat cliche (which is to be expected of most jrpg's anyway) but overall the game was good. hopefully the rerelease of it that's coming with WKC2 will fix up the combat system a bit.

gravemaker4765d ago

White Knight Chronicles is a very good game, definitely not dissapointing

Infernostew4765d ago

Only disappointing thing about WKC was that it was way too easy other than that the game was fantastic!

gravemaker4765d ago

if you found it too easy, you should play some online)

Infernostew4765d ago

I only played a little bit, GR3. My friend who convinced me to get the game week 1 said he'd play online a ton. We only played a bit and the moron didn't even finish the single player.

My take:

Single player
3, 2, 1

Multiplayer
3, 1, 2

Overall
3, 2, 1

I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.

Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.

Eidolon722d ago

Resistance 1 MP will always be my favorite. Call it nostalgia or whatever, but that was my jam, felt more balance, natural.

Miraak82 722d ago

i have the platinium too , 10k kills in online ranked matches was no joke . Took me 3-4 months straight grinding but it was fun . To put it in perspective you only got like 25 kills per match if you were 1st place every match that's at Least 400 matches in 1st

Sciurus_vulgaris723d ago

I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2

GoodGuy09723d ago

Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.

fr0sty722d ago

Resistance, Warhawk, MAG, Motorstorm, there's so many first party gems on PS3 that Sony has just left to die...

P_Bomb723d ago

Never played Burning Skies but I still have Retribution.

monkey602722d ago

Burning Skies was about 3 hours long and rather inconsequential. You haven't missed anything

porkChop722d ago

Honestly, Burning Skies was shit. There's no two ways about it. At first I thought it looked terrible, then I second guessed myself. Big mistake.

darthv72721d ago

Retribution has this really cool feature where you could use a PS3 to link a controller to it and play. So if you had a 2000 or 3000 hooked to a tv, you can use a real controller. All of this predates the PSP Go's ability to sync a sixaxis to it via bluetooth.

Yui_Suzumiya722d ago

Resistance 3 was shocking and brilliant. Loved it.

These PS3 Games are Going to get Really Expensive

Could you get rich by investing in PS3 games? Almost definitely not. Can you make a few bucks by flipping PS3 games over the years? Yeah, sure! It wouldn’t even be that difficult. But let’s face it: Once these games are in your collection, you’re probably keeping them forever.

There's a reason I didn't buy most of these when they came out.

MadLad957d ago

After a game's multiple generations old, and can't be had new at a reasonable price, that's when I see nothing wrong with emulation.

What's the point of paying someone scalper prices when the dev/publisher isn't even benefiting from it?

mkis007957d ago

Emulation doesn't stop a games physical box from becoming collectible.

Knightofelemia957d ago

I paid $30 for SH Downpour on PS3 now it's around $70-$85 Canadian Lolipop Chainsaw I paid $15 and it has really gone up in price. I wonder if Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron will go up in price two of the best Transformers games every made.

neutralgamer1992957d ago

In 5 years time all those games will be worth at least $150 to $200 that you listed

957d ago
neutralgamer1992957d ago

Ever since Sony announced that they would shut down PS3 store these prices have skyrocketed and even though Sony backtracked now most gamers realize that it's a matter of time before the PlayStation 3 store is shut down. If you want these games get them while you can even if digital because once that story shut down the physical prices will just go crazy high we saw that already

And many of these games did not sell like crazy amounts so they are limited number of copies available for sale at any given time

MadLad957d ago

Folklore is a game I've always really wanted to play, but I got a PS3 late in the generation, and it was already really expensive to find, being it didn't exactly sell well, therefore was already kind of a collector's item.

Kept hoping I'd find a cheap copy randomly at stores and flea markets, but never happened.

franwex957d ago

I got mine for $5 at Walmart like 10 years ago. I have yet to play it.

neutralgamer1992957d ago

It was available at GameStop for a while for under $20. Don't know har happened but GameStop started to sell their used games based on ebay prices it seems

You can still find it for around $60-70 and which in my opinion is a good price for a game that will be worth double if not triple that in next 5 years

Mr Logic957d ago

Have you considered modding your PS3? Neither Sony or the dev would be getting money from that Folklore purchase. Kind of a victimless crime at that point.

MadLad957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

@neutral

Honestly, I just want to actually give the experience a try. I'm not someone who would buy it at a premium just to potentially rip someone off down the road.
I mean, there are collectors out there and if paying a couple hundred dollars is worth it to them then more power to them, but I'm not one to be on either end of that exchange.

I know it's taboo, but I might dig in and see the state of PS3 emulation on PC. I have a good PC, so it might be able to power through the often times poor performance, being PS3 is known to be hard to emulate.

I've never emulated anything past the PS2/Dreamcast but, as I said in my first post, I don't see anything wrong with emulation if the game you want to play can only be had used, with no money going to the creators.
