Have You Played… – The Orange Box

Nave360: "Have You Played..." is a new weekly segment from the creator of "Do You Remember?", on asking gamers if they have played the game in question. It's similar to "Do You Remember?", but it looks at current generation games, no matter what platform they are on! The segment will ask you at the end if you have played it, plus what your score for the game would be, so this segment gets you involved. If you have not played the game, at the same time, Charlie will give his score on how badly this needs to be played and if it's for you.

Now I did a "Do You Remember? - Half-Life" before, so I felt it was only fair to do the Orange Box seeing's as they both fit. The Orange Box is one phenomenal package, and one that you really need to play, whether it's for one week or one hour.

I haven't played through the Orange Box since '08.
I'm gonna marathon through it this week!

I thought "what the hell" and picked it up cheap a couple of years ago on my PS3. It was awesome! Worth it for Portal alone. The way people were going on online you'd think the PS3 version was unplayable but nothing could have been further from the truth. I think I got stuck in a wall once in the 3rd episode. Never really got into TF2. Excellent game all around.

I think the Orange box is like the greatest combination of games in one package ever. (Well excluding Square Enix entire PC library for $80 on Steam a few weeks ago).

I play through HL2 or the episodes at least once a month. Team Fortress 2 PC gets updated like every 10 hours. And since we are getting so close to Portal 2 i'm sure i will run through that in the next few weeks.

with so much of an awesome value i wonder what will Valve do to try an top that? Any ideas for the Orange Box 2?

HL2, ep1, ep2, ep3, Team Fortress 3, Portal 2.1, Day of Defeat 2, Counter Strike 2 Beta key... now that would Kick Ass

It's a two-way system though. Thanks to the OrangeBox, there's a lot of people that tried TF2... which eventually led to the big cashcow that buys anything and everything linked to pointless TF2 hats.

I know it works because I pre-ordered Shogun2 just for those damn items. =(
(Well, I actually played the demo and ended up liking it... but I probably would've waited for a steam sale if it weren't for those damn, pointless, items)

As for a second Orange Box... err... Dota, Portal2, All the half-lifes (+ new ep) and... Black Mesa source? Urgh.

ATiElite4786d ago (Edited 4786d ago )

Do it! Do it Now!

Lets all hold hands and sing Happy Birthday to KRAN.....better yet lets all sing it like the hungover and disgruntle employees at Applebee's.

Get out of N4G, at least on your birthday

Tikicobra4786d ago

I honestly don't know a single gamer in real life who doesn't have the Orange Box.

Nothing but great memories with all these games! Playing Left for dead series during the college years with friends was the best.

Skull5212009d ago

Love to see titles coming to BC with enhancements. Would love even more to see Half Life 3.

gangsta_red2010d ago

To not have another Left 4 Dead is straight up criminal.

How Valve released five of its greatest games in a single day

The year is 2007. Console owners tap their fingers in barely contained impatience. For years they have been starved of Valve's delicious, full-bodied courses, forced to watch from the bleachers as Valve mixes a unique blend of kinetic first-person with extraordinary tech. Besides a brief dalliance with the original Xbox and the PlayStation 2 - which produce pale imitations of its best work - Valve has remained faithful to the PC.

And then, in a flash, five of them arrive at once; neatly packaged morsels for a new generation reared on Microsoft's & later Sony's consoles. Five games, all in one orange box. Valve serves the PC too, for it is October 18 - a day of celebration - and everyone should feast.

Man 2007 was a great year for gaming.

OpenGL2374d ago

Valve didn't really "release" 5 of its greatest games in a single day, Half-Life 2 came out 3 years before The Orange Box. In no other context do we talk about a port being the "release" of a game.

Fist4achin2374d ago

The orange box was an excellent release. I don't think Valve will do much beyond online only games now.

AuraAbjure2374d ago

Thanks for making the source 2 game engine valve it's legit.

Valve reflects on The Orange Box, ten years later

Robin Walker discusses the impact of Portal, Team Fortress 2 and more.

pwnsause_returns2382d ago

shut up valve....give me HL3....

Back when Valve made a lot of great titles

-Foxtrot2381d ago

Little cheeky to talk about it when you know we're still waiting for Half Life 3...the Orange Box included Episode 2 and is still left unfinished story wise to this day.

At this rate we better get a second Orange Box. Half Life 3, Half Life Remake (Black Mesa Mod), TF3 or L4D3 and the HL spin offs like Blue Shift.

Reefskye2380d ago (Edited 2380d ago )

Don't know what valve are going to do with Half Life after Mike Laidlaw posted the short version of Episode 3 in August and changed the names and genders.
