PlayStation 3 Set to Overtake Xbox 360 by end of 2011

MS puts most (if not all) of its eggs in the America basket while Sony spreads its resources across a broader amount of countries around the world. The world market is what matters most, since there's much more potential market besides just the United States.

If Sony price drops the PS3 to $200, while putting out all these exclusive games, it's going to have a banner year for sure. The PS3 is going to become what the PS2 was in its time: the go-to system for the most games, and, arguably, the best games. (And now, just like before, it has the media of choice for technophiles--bluray.)

Given M$ lack of decent exclusives its not surprising in the least. of course PS3 will overtake it. the playstation brand has been there a lot longer and M$ can take all the third party games they want. Most people see them as playstation franchises.

All Sony need is some good price drops. M$ picked a bad time to attack the casual crowd when PS3 is gaining on it fast.

Who cares if the console is an American design? Anyone can build a cheap pc (Xbox), it's the game developers like ND, Epic Games and ,IDK, Bethesda Softworks and the like. That's where the real artistic talent and game design genius comes from, and not to mention jobs. Who gave us the opportunity to save hundreds of dollars with PS+? Who made games like LBP, Uncharted, and Infamous, thanks to their 1st party studios? Who has the most extensive list of exclusives, and even of multiplats, in 2011?

I've been saying this for years about their second number comparison. By looking at that, it's evident that PS3 sells at a more faster rate then the 360 does, always ends up selling more when you compare the 1st year and so on side by side.

So eventually the PS3 is going to pass the PS3 at the rate of speed it continues to sell at.

If you compare each year, so 1st to 1st, 2nd to 2nd, 3rd to 3rd, ect. The PS3 has sold more each year. This means that more consoles are selling, and whatever the 360 had that year the PS3 reached that number much quicker and then sold some more.

for example (fake numbers here):

XBOX360 sold 500,000 it's first year
PS3 Sold 500,000 but only half that year, the rest of the year it spent selling more which made its sales 700,000.

So PS3 reach the sales of 360 in half the time period that the 360 took.

And you end up spending a hell of alot more money than we would if we bought both the PS3 AND 360. lol PC gaming is expensive, buddy, and is not worth it to most gamers. Most gamers would rather have consoles that are hooked up to high def. big screens with surround sound systems. (Yes, I realize you can do that with a PC, but it's a bit more difficult.)

EDIT: Yes, but most people already have a TV and a surround sound. Most people don't go out and buy all of that at once. lol They just buy whatever console(s) they want, which is much cheaper than a gaming PC.

If an armored car fell in my backyard right now, I would probably go buy the biggest super high resolution computer monitor I could find, and I would skip all that consumer grade 1080p crappola in favor or a monitor that had 4x - 5x as much resolution, then I would spec out a computer that couple actually run a couple of PC games that I want to play on that crazy ass monitor and I would go with that...

But an armored car filled with money would need to fall out of the sky.

If MS continues pushing and advertising Kinect along with some great Kinect games, they can tap into the casual Wii crowd and have their best year.

Plus, the 360 is due for a price drop too.

The thing is, that casual crowd may or may not want to spend $300 minimum for a 360 with Kinect when they can get a Wii for $150. So, while I'm not disagreeing with you, it's really hard to tell. A casual person is going to go off from price first and foremost and the Wii is the cheap casual solution and will probably drop to $99 this year.

The PS3 still have the bluray trump card. Since it's been updated to support 3D bluray discs now, lots of hardcore and "medium"core (LoL) home theatre enthusiasts would love to have a PS3 as their media hub for their (3D)HDTV. Bluray is a huge draw for a lot of people. It's why many people buy a PS3 over anything else.

Secondly, I believe the real reason people are disagreeing with you is because you say casuals may not be willing to buy Kinect and 360 for 300 when Wii is 150 even though in the last 3 months kinect has now sold 8.5 million.
How do you explain that if casuals don't want to buy it? Every ps3 fanboy claims all those kinects are casual buys but now you wanna pretend the casuals have a problem parting with their money for kinect?
The was a report that said 3/5 x360 purchases during december where kinect bundles, sounds to me as though the casuals do not mind shelling out 300 bucks at all even with Wii in the mix

@failoverhero That because kinect is new, so people like new things, the technology is new and haven't been seen. Also maybe the hardcore gamer bought it for their kids so they can play on the 360 too. It's like buying a party game so you can play with your girl friend. Sony already has overtaken it for me, i'm seriously going to end up trading my 360s for an NGP, because I know even a portable is going to bring more to the table than the status quo that Microsoft settled for 3rd party and party chat.

2 months into the year and i've spend 129.99 on Helghast edition, and 3 ps3 games, and Socome move bundle is on my radar.

In direct contrast I get text froms Best Buy gamer, letting me know of upcoming ps3 exclusives, and my preorder of Helghast edition is here, then i get a text again from Best Buy gamer letting me know 20.00 off of LIVE. And play what COD and Halo no thanks.

I don't think you read the article. I thought it was going to be another Sony biased article but it actually gives solid number and it's based on VGChartz; the one chart that Sony fanboys hate because it supposedly downplays Sony's number.

and then in second chart it shows year-to-year comparsion; and it shows that Sony's PS3 is actually selling more. This is probably why many say PS3 will outsell Xbox360 because year-to-year base shows Sony is selling better. It's just question of the rate at which PS3 outsells.

Momentum wise I guess Xbox does have it but Kinect is mainly for casual games. The games we play won't be effected by this; if it does have effect, it'll be an negative effect since if there's so much potential in casual side, then developers will develop casual games instead games that we, "hardcore" gamers plays.

though if the PS3 price cut rumor is true then I say momentum gets turn around to Sony's favor.

I personally don't care about sales number since I mostly just buy PS3 exclusives and rest of games in PC.
