I understand your budget but if possible I would go with the Gigabyte 560 GTX Super Over Clock. pound for price it's the best card out. clocked at 10000mhz it totally destroys all other 460 and 560 gtx cards.

it's $269 but if that's out of your budget then hold off until Mid March when the 550 GTX is released. it will be under $200 and provide more power than a 460 GTX.

"Doesn't look bad", is NOT the reason why I don't like the console versions. Unlike many of the multiplat ports, these games can literally jump ahead above the consoles in a "next-gen" fashion.

If you were given a game between a PSP port or a PS3 version, what would you choose? You can see right off the bat that 'generation' difference could easily mar the games potential experience. After viewing the trailer, it is quite evident that B3 and Crysis 2 were MEANT to be played on PC's. No more, no less. Console versions are like the GOW: GoS on the PSP. Amazing tech for the device but it just can't beat the actual experience.

I would suggest you to buy two MSI Cyclone or ASUS DirectCU GTX 460 1GB (or even 768MB if you are really low on money) and put them in SLI, that combo kicks 480's a$$. + you can OC them both too.
p.s. only drawback is that 460's can only do two way SLI, so that's something to keep in mind :)

Arma 2 is pretty CPu heavy but when you add the ACE Mod 2 and run it in DX10 mode it really pumps up the graphics thus putting more load on the GPU with near photo realistic vehicle, and gun models.

This game is looking to up the ante on the visuals. Now certainly its too early to tell for sure but this could be the new king for graphics. I wish we had a sense as to what platform that was taken from. I am assuming it was PC but man what a treat for all if it was from one of the consoles.

I am very excited for this game. I love the BF gameplay coupled by the destruction of the Frostbite engine and you have a winner!

I just don't see what's special.

The weaponry seems blocky and undetailed, the draw distance is pretty decent but are more built on exaggerate plumes of smoke than actual graphic effects. The cars when he's firing on the bridge seem undetailed as do the NPC's.

I'm just not impressed by it, it's probably going to be awesome regardless.
I'm not going to flat out call it average based on other big graphical shooters coming out or are out (RAGE, Killzone, Crysis 2, Etc) because this is probably not even Alpha, and if Killzone and Crysis & Co can get away with that excuse for months whenever somebody finds fault then so should this game be able to.

Finally! A game that does blood right. Metal Gear Solid 2 got it down, then everyone just went the direction of "when you get shot, strings of blood launch around like a Kill Bill movie".

it's a shame to me. i just think that all this awesome tech could be used to elevate OTHER genres, and not just the FPS genre.

i can easily see action games, RPGs, open world games, etc, really being taken to another level. i mean, you can even have OTHER themes in the FPS genre. it doesn't always have to be a military FPS.

personally, i'm DYING for an open world RPG in the vein of Fallout: New Vegas, but set in a cyberpunk world like Blade Runner or Shadowrun (the GOOD Shadowrun, not the MP shooter travesty that completely forgot it was an RPG). actually, a rebirth of Shadowrun on the 360 (i think MS may own the game rights still), done like New Vegas would be AWESOME.

Dice is a great developer, and Battlefield 3 is looking fantastic though. sadly, I've had just a handful too many militaristic FPS shooters to put this on on my radar.

i remember when awesome FPS titles like Doom and Half Life were VERY few and far between, so when there was a legitimate evolution of FPS gameplay, it was met with open arms. i still remember when Half Life 2 was finally revealed. jaws were on the floor for weeks. nowadays, even when an FPS is doing some AMAZING things for the genre (ie, Killzone 2/3, and Battlefield 3), it's met with "mehs" because there have been so many other FPS titles that have diluted real progress in the genre, so then you have games like Killzone 2 and 3 being called "generic" when they are nothing of the sort. Anyway, Battlefield 3 is looking awesome.

The only fps games that I'm actually getting this year are Crysis 2, Resistance 3 & Battlefield 3. I generally hate fps games but these three having something unique about them which is why I'm getting.

Told Ya So! When EA's rep said in Dec. that they are putting a shitload of money into Battlefield 3 to make sure it becomes the new COD Killer, they werent kidding. They are going to raise the bar in FP shooters. People have no idea about the scale, destructibility, graphics, and realism. Bullets actually lose velocity with distance travel and guns are not accurate when you spray bullets. You actually have to burst fire for accuracy.
