This is not the kind of jungle I was expecting. I was think...I don't know more...GREEN.

The map looks great, but it looks more like a wasteland or a scorched area with fungus than a jungle. The excuse is it's an alien jungle. That's fine, but since it's and alien jungle they could have been a little more creative.

The game is beautiful, but even better than the graphics is the audio. Listen to the gunfire from around the map. How many other games do this, it's generally proximity hearing only, and maybe an explosion.

Helagan is a hellhole. Its where the helgan society was exiled to after the first extrasolar war.

Think about this for a minute. If Helgan had nice tropical rainforest. Why didn't the helgan population settle there in the frist place?. A lot of early helgan died because of the harsh environments on helgan. Helgan was never meant for human settlement other than just mining operations. To have lush green rainforest goes against the universe GG created for helgan and it wont make sense.

Bulletstorm demo was alright. I like what they are trying to do. This is my game though. Haven't played KZ2 in a month or so on the multiplayer side. Might play tonight but you just can't have a quick match. The game sucks you in the adrenaline of one more kill equalling another 20-30mins online.

@Alpha: The design isn't based on a humanoid civilization and has openings and pathways that aren't the norm. In addition, it's a beautiful looking zone. I do wish there was more signs of the notable large insects and animals mentioned in its description, but there's a lot there that will make people think a bit differently without relying on typical walls and similar covers.

If you watch closley he does kill 2 people but only because 2 people are standing there. You see a second cloaked sniper run in front of the first one he is chasing before he reaches them. They both stand there cloaked until he offs them.

yeah i guess we are so used to the definition of a jungle as being green, looking at this seem very strange. A swamp is would be more fitting for this map. Although, i don't know about the vibrant colors, it seem a bit exaggerated -> can be quite distracting.

I often have a difficult time remembering maps in some games, but in real life I can navigate just fine O.o

While watching this video, I realized what a good job they have done in making maps "feel" like a real space. The atmosphere really held the environment together, making it easy to map out in my mind for some strange reason.

In other words, I recorded what I was seeing in the video as if it was in person.

It really is. I like how they didn't make it look like a normal Earth jungle. I can actually believe it's on Helghan. It totally fits the style and atmosphere of the game. For some reason, it reminds of Lost Planet 2. It's probably just me though.

It's interesting that this map seems alot tighter than usual Killzone maps. Should be interesting how games play out.

Helghan. It reads Hell ghan, so with that said everything in this games reflects such name.

Killzone is suppose to look dirty, like a ground zero if you will.

The first killzone game however took place on a planet called vekta or something like that.
This was pretty much like earth with green and color and all that. But of course this was back in the first game, when the series started on the ps2.

This game however takes place in helghan, which it in itself is like an apocalyptic waste land if you will.

Let's be honest, it's mostly grey with a few splashes of red, brown and yellow.

And I agree with Arnon, how can this be called a jungle? A jungle has to have abundant plant and animal life. I see mostly caves and some cylindrical things (I don't know if they are supposed to be trees) and only a few small plants scattered here and there.

I really get the feeling guerrilla's engine simply isn't very good at rendering complex foliage.

In terms of rendering, this "jungle" is not much different than the typical Killzone urban environments. The cave walls are basically like the walls of buildings and the "trees" are similar to the scraps of debris or columns that you see in typical Killzone environments. From an engine standpoint it really isn't much different.

For those stating that the jungle is not what you expected. I'm not bashing you but I would say this. It does help if you know the story of the Helgan. Like actually look up and read the lore surrounding the Killzone games. It would help immensely in your perception of what you think their jungle should be.

In the context of what GG is putting out they are right on the mark as Helghan is a crap planet as someone has previously stated.

Again I would suggest reading the lore behind all this so that you get your bearings and understand why things are the way they are.

The jungle in Killzone 3 looks nice, but it doesn't really look like a jungle in any sense of the word. As others have pointed out it looks a lot like the Hollow in Gears of War 2.

@Eyeco now to me it just sounds like you are criticizing me for stating my honest opinion on the matter here.

The game is meant to be this way, its the atmosphere of the game in the same way gears of war is supposed to be brown and grey as well.

Last time around it was the swearing, then the controls and now is this. If its not one thing, its another. Killzone from my understanding is based on a war, a war thats taking place in a gritty and dirty environment, a placed torn by war and nukes that now is a waste land which hosts a major struggle between two factions if you will.

I mean whats not to understand here, i am sure if you asked guerilla to make something like little big planet or uncharted they would have no problem answering the call.

Every game has its own art style, its own direction and this my friend whether you like it or not is theirs.

This generation we have all sorts of games around, back perhaps in the super Nintendo era all we had were colorful games.

With better graphics the visions gotten bigger and in some cases like this one darker.

Not every idea is the same, not every dev is going to support the same direction. Crysis 2 i notice, is clear, very clean and relies a lot on light effect and glare which is a good thing for its setting and its art direction.

Why were most of the metal gears prior to 4 were all green centered?

I mean why do halo cater to green and purple a lot more than any other colors in the game and note theres been well over 3 halo games now. lol cmon give it a break.

i do love how everyone used the 'theres a jungle level in KZ3, so the whole games not just brown and grey like the first 2 levels theyve shown' defence............and then we see the "jungle" level and its, you guessed it, brown and grey lol.

Interesting take on nature on an extraterrestrial planet, to say the least. Those little immature fanboys spamming this thread don't understand a thing about the scenario of the Killzone series. Helghan is an unhospitable place, almost completely barren, so it makes sense that nature is present only in places, scattered among grey rocks. Yes, that level has grey, but no, it is not only grey, not anymore than Killzone 2 was grey.

The peeps saying that haven't played the damn game, or they need to see an oculist, cause I'm playing through the game again, and even in the first levels, there is color...used in a more subtle way than, say, Halo 3 for example. The early urban areas have green hues, white hues, blue hues, later on the levels have brown hues, red hues... Complete opposite of gears of war 1 (entirely grey) or 2 (entirely brown).

More on-topic: I love what I saw in that vid. No, it's not an actual jungle, but it's not meant to be one, and it's very colorful. It's more in line with what you see in elevated, barren landscapes (even on Earth) where the lack of water means vegetation has a hard time trying to survive between the rocks. Killzone 3 has other types of natural environments guys, don't worry. We only got a glimpse at them in an old video, because the guys at GG want to avoid making the same mistake of revealing everything before the game is out, but you'll also get your green foliage, although not exactly a lush green jungle like we have on our beautiful planet. Mark my words.
