IW admit MW2 and CoD hacks but blame PS3's lack of security

IW finally admit MW2 and COD4 have been hacked, but... say its still not their problem its more to do with Sony as its their machine that has had its security breached and cannot fix it until Sony sort it out.

Okay IW first off the PS3 hack dilemma was way after your games got hack. Not for some reason games like W@W and BO are harder to hack then the two games you guys developed, but here the biggest catch.

Lets look at COD4 shall we?

The first freaken hack that could be done for PS3 COD4 was this.

Those games had hack nearly the first month of release, where as the PS3 versions took a lot more time.

Sony PS3 had nothing to do with the gamesave hack, nor the patch hacks. Infact the hackers didn't even use these methods that are being used now.

The problem with this entire story is the ps3 was hacked late 2010 early 2011......MW2 released 2009.

So the hackers hopped in thier 85 Delorean went back in time a lil over a year just to cheat in MW2..... thats more believeable than saying the PS3 is to blame for the infinite hacks across 3 platforms.

mw2 was hacked 3 days after release on the PS3 to be exact. Xbox was like 2 days. Most were for singleplayer only though, then we found a way to merge splitscreen stats to online, therefor merging leaderboards and prestiges, giving you the prestige hack and leaderboard hack.

The xbox hacks were because the game had no security it self, and the MW2 ps3 hacks were happening before the ps3 was hacked.
1 guy had done something to the game save data to manipulate the game so he could have infection hacks like the xbox version did. He then went on holiday and another 2 guys found out how to do it
He had videos on a forum (no name mentioned) which I used to use got GTA IV pc mods, so I could make videos.
I remember watching the video and couldnt believe it was on the ps3.
The old ps3 hacks were fairly 'underground' so it wasnt widely reported hence not many people knew about it.

i cant tell you all now this is bullshit.

These hacked lobbies plagued mw2/cod4 on the 360 a few months after mw2's release, and infinity ward patched them. There are still whats known as "challenge lobbies" on the 360 also.

Not only that before these ps3 hacks there was challenge lobbies on ps3 they just weren't as mainstream(on cod4 anyway), another thing after mw2 released there was a UFO hack on ps3(which was also before the jailbreak) and infinity ward patched it.

So how is this unfixable until sony sort things out?.. when they patched the ufo hack and patched the same issues on 360?.. lol

The only thing the ps3 jailbreak is responsible for is most likely the increase in people doing the hacks, plus its the only 2 games i see plagued with hacks, and they're both developed by infinity ward, seems to me the problem lies with them ;)

before the ps3 was hacked all you had to do is open the memory card slot and extract the memory data for mw2 and then put this data on your pc, run a special program and bingo you now have a hacked mw2 copy and can troll people on psn.

A patch disallowed this.

Now that the ps3 is hacked anyone can hack the console now.

On the 360 only jtaged consoles can run hacks and those are very rare, jtag consoles have to be old 20 gig 360s from 2006.

Hacks will be way way way more rampant on the ps3 then they are on the xbox.

All 40+ million ps3s have the ability to be hacked, meanwhile only a small percentage of 360s can.

Surely they have some sort of security/encryption code implemented for the PC version of the game? If so, it should be relatively trivial to enable it in the console versions, making them just as secure as the PC version. Of course, the PC version may not actually be all that secure, but they can't blame Sony for THAT.

The security for preventing all these cheats is garbage. These guys are trying to save face by using Sony as a scapegoat. This game has been ripped to shreds on all platforms: pc, xbox, and ps3. Search YouTube and you'll see. Black Ops could face the same problems because the security isn't that much different from what I know; in fact, there were hacks for the game before it even released and they're still being released. I know its been updated from MW2 but the hacks keep coming.

Maybe you never played MW 2 or any of the COD games for that matter. But this has been issue on MW 2 even before we heard about people jailbreaking their PS3s. 1. Game files on PC are vunerable since you can just go to your program files and hack them from there. PC games are always 100% vulnerable.
2. Xbox 360 has been hacked for years, game files are always vulnerable to being modified allowing for hacks.
3. Now that the PS3 has been hacked, the game files are now vulnerable just like the PC and Xbox 360.

This just doesn't go for CoD but all games. They're not full of it, all gaming platforms are now vulnerable. Not the developer's fault.

@almost everyone: The security breach is only going to make things worse for gaming on the PS3. Yes, you pay to play on 360 but it's got a much more MATURE audience and that's worth alot these days. PS3's community = 80% kids and it took a kid to hack the damn thing!! Every game and console can be hacked. It's up to the community to take advantage of them or not. Even though the 360 is an easy to hack console, the MP experience for me has been flawless since the first Gears. Less kiddie behaviour and more hardcore gaming. That's what I bought a console for and that's why I'm sticking to my 360 when it comes to MP gaming. The PS3 and it's audience need to grow up.

It is actually the PS3's fault. Has anyone here actually jailbroken their PS3s and looked through the game files? You can modify any game to your liking. That's how the developers have to develop for the PS3 and they all rely on the PS3's security for that. So all-in-all, you can't blame any developer for this even though most of you hate IW or Activision for the matter. The same goes for JTAG Xbox's, the security is broken on that and gives people access to mod any game they like. The comments amaze me on this site. If you actually understood how these hacks affect the PS3, all multiplayer games are now vunerable to cheats. And yes, that means Killzone 3, Resistance 3, etc. This isn't an IW issue, this is now Sony's issue and they're gonna have to work to get the security back. soooo game coding is ps3's fault for lack of security on ps3? what you say on the paying service on xbox? or on pc? any excuse for that? game coding isnt the consoles fault activision, that where something called patches come in you know where you put or eliminate codes so that it can block that access for hackers to do. But i guess since you make a call of duty every year then that just shows how mediocre your game testers and game programmers are. If you want to see where the real problem is you have two options either go outside and look up the building and where it says activision there you go, or look yourself in the mirror and there you should see who the real problem is also.

Did you consider that this could be a plot from activision/IW to make the PS3 look bad? I mean, during the next few months there's gonna be 2 big shooting titles coming out on PS3: Killzone 3 and Resistance 3. And if we are talking shooters then that means straight up competition for Activision and company. Yes I have a high probability of being wrong, but it just crossed my head..

All they needed was to timestamp encode the save files. They didn't. If I understood correctly, this doesn't have much to the with modded ps3. Why lie about it?
