DC Universe: A Review…. Of Justice!

Sony Online Entertainment has put out some serious MMOs in the past. EverQuest? Check. Star Wars Galaxies? Hell yes. DC Universe Online? Well, it just came out , so do players have to cross their fingers and hope for the best? Totally unnecessary. Judging from the game so far, you can bet that Sony hasn’t dropped the ball in the MMO gaming industry and it can definitely stand up to similar games, such as City of Heroes/City of Villains (COH/COV) and Champions Online.

Does anyone know if you have to buy the game to get the 30-day trial? I heard that you get the 30-day trial AFTER you buy the game...but that makes no sense.

The purpose of a trial is to see if you like the game enough to get the full version. But, in this case, you need to buy the full version of the game in order to get the trial. Its backasswards.

@zootang- All I did is ask a question...why the hell are you getting defensive as if N4G was your girlfriend and she just gave me a blowjob?

@reply- Ummm, according to my sources, it IS a trial.

Its not really a trial its just them giving you the first month free along with the purchase of the game.

zootang4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

@Dead

Go away you one bubble troll. Acting all "I own all consoles!" but always stickin it to anything PS3 exclusive.

You buy the Game, you get the first months play. Is that not the same for all pay to play MMO's?

@Dead

My girlfriend gave you a blowy? N4G is a female? What the F*ck are you talking about man!

Motion4846d ago

Yup, same as all P2P MMO's. Fist month sub comes in the price of the game, ~$15 a month recurring after. Most MMO's will release a 7-14 day trial several (or more) months after release.

soljah4846d ago

so whats this game like.
its like infamous or crackdown on crack
surprising how good the combat is and how deep the game play is. cities are huge and varied n having others around working on quests with u is cool

GeneGodHand4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

This review is bs you don't review a mmo in one day what a fail.

BlackTar1874846d ago

WOW didnt have a trail for awhile and thinking of it CoH and CoV didn't have a DL trial well into the year after it was released.

If anyone knows any differnt just let me know im pretty sure im correct though

despair4846d ago

@deadreckoning666

they call it 30 day trial but its just bad wording and means the same thing, its $15.00 a month and buying the game includes the first 30 days free with the $15.00 subscription from the next month, hence trial.

Same difference, I believe there is also a buddy pass where you get a code with the game for someone to get a 10 day trial, but it requires you to give them your disk to install the game and that's not something most people want to do. Hope that helps.

@zootang

he asked a legitimate question and you are the one acting like an a$$ provoking him. So what if he trolls other articles, he's not doing that here.

socomnick4846d ago

This will suffer the same fate as Apb.

It will close down after 3 months.

JohnnyMann4204846d ago

No wonder you have 1 bubble. You are an idiot.

ironmonkey4845d ago

your avatar/real ugly face suffers major screen tear

TheDivine4845d ago (Edited 4845d ago )

It acually looks decent to me but i doubt many console owners will care for the subscription. Thats why i wont buy it but i guess its fair if you can sink ulimited time into it idk. MMOs are not my thing and never will be. Looks decent though. If they had a 10 day demo id try it.

JohnnyMann4204846d ago

Do some research before posting and maybe you will have more than one stupid bubble you troll.

Great game, just a shame about the hefty subscription fee. They should of gone the other direction and only charge for extra content.

Mr_Bun4846d ago

How do you review an MMO the first day it goes live?

Grlpants4846d ago

We were a part of the Beta since the beginning. Thanks for your concern about the article though. :)

Mr_Bun4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

So, your proof reader missed the "beta" omission in the article? I'm just trying to understand, because it would appear that you are able to assess this game based on the beta. Personally, I find it rare that the beta is indicative of the final...but that is just me.

Edit: @below

It isn't the score, it is the shallowness of the "review" in general.

despair4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

no score on the website though, just here on N4G. It read more like the introduction to an extended review not a review so to speak. Also its not exactly comprehensive just giving the basics.

@above

yea it was just like a synopsis of the basics of the game, with no real depth on even 1 aspect.

GrlpantsGR4846d ago

@ Mr Bun --- While I do see what you mean, a beta can make or break a game in the beginning-- FF14. As someone who was going to buy it right off the bat, I actually didn't because of all the reviews that I read the first day they showed up. Thank GAWD. I was going to spend extra money on the collectors edition.

From my understanding of the article they are saying that all in all it's a good time and worth the money to buy. I would be so pissed off if I got the game on release date and found out that it sucked ballz. If there are inherent flaws in the beta yes, they pretty much have the right to review it and let people know about it. In this instance, the dude loved it and wants more people to play it.

Orange4846d ago

@Gamerreaction: If this is true, the review could have done a service to other beta users by comparing game performance with the beta. For example, I'd like to know if performance has been improved now that the game is live. I don't really need a review of the game, I need a comparison to the beta.

Derp4846d ago

@Mr Bun - Why are you so angry? Its just a review giving some first impressions when there aren't many out there. I, for one, am grateful for the review, even with the admission of beta info being left out.

@Orange - I totally agree. Maybe they'll do a follow up review after the initial 30 days or something, giving a more comprehensive comparison. They probably just wanted to get a review out quickly so that people would have some idea of what to expect from the game.

JohnnyMann4204846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

So what if you were in the beta. There is end game content and other content you did not and have not seen yet. Sooo you are not basing the game on the real release therefore your review sucks.

IPUMPMYGUN4846d ago

At least the review is pretty good for a mmo.

Grlpants4846d ago

MMOs In 2021 Retrospective: Console Edition

WTMG's Thomas Medina: "As far as I’m concerned, console MMOs have always been in a weird place. PC is where the main game is most popular. MMOs were born there, work best there, and have the vast majority of titles. Mobile is then next in line, with touchscreens and portability that adds something new while functioning well. Console gaming, on the other hand, is not portable (for the most part). Plus, it uses a controller, which is not the best instrument when your control scheme requires a thousand buttons and a cursor. That being said, there is an audience, and where there’s money to be made, publishers find a way. So here we are with some of the biggest console MMO games and how I feel they handled 2021. "

Best Superhero Video Games Available Right Now

From Xfire: "A lot of video games are designed to make players feel like a superhero. However, very few actually feature superheroes or have players take on the role of a superhero. What makes this even worse is that there are even fewer superhero video games that can be considered good."
