The author mentioned that he wrote an article in June and he listed five games (Lords of Shadow is one of them) that do have the potential to match the best visuals seen in many PS3 exclusives. Also Uncharted 2 is the graphical benchmark on consoles so comparing it to Uncharted 2 is rational.

It should be telling that every game coming out keeps getting compared to Uncharted 2 (nearly a year old), God of War III (several months old), and Killzone 2 (over a year and a half old)...

We've all heard this "as good looking as Uncharted 2" hype before. Don't believe it until you see it, and I've definitely not as good looking as U2. it's a beautiful game, but not even close to U2.

No, indeed. The animation isn't even close to uncharted 2. The character model here is too far away and you can't see a high level of detail on it. The character model doesn't even seem to get affected by water or snow unlike uncharted, Nathan actually gets wet and covered in snow. Look at the environment (bushes) in the video, it doesn't even move (or react) when he runs through it! My opinion is UC2 looks better not to mention GOW3, KZ2 (KZ3). Castlevania (Like God Of War) has a fixed camera position. Meaning that A LOT of bits can merely be rendering CGI 2D plains as oppose to full 3D like in Uncharted.

That is why this whole argument is null. Without a full rotatable camera, you can't judge what is great graphics and what is a great smokescreen.

Heavy Rain looks garbage compared to Uncharted 2. Heavy Rain has some great looking character models but it so unpolished it terms of the level design. Some levels look good, others just don't mix right at all and look dated.

Uncharted 2 looks so good because of the polish that went into it and some amazing textures. Also all the big set pieces, any game can look good but for an action/shooter game these days they need those type of big set pieces that will set the game apart from others.

he MLAA does a lot for GoW3 and the textures were just wild in that game. But the art direction in Uncharted 2 is stunning. Uncharted 3 will be mind blowing with MLAA.

Heavy Rain looks great but on a technical level it falls short, being that there just isn't much going on there like explosions and whole levels in motion that the other games have!

The environments yes, everything else no.

It's comparable on one aspect of Uncharted and that's the environment.

The character models are only detailed in cutscenes, and the camera is zoomed so far out it's hard to get a good look at them.

The game looks good, but not U2 quality just yet. That goes to show how much quality went into Uncharted 2, it's nearly a year old and still has little competition outside of other PS3 exclusives for best looking graphics.

IMO there's the Uncharted level which includes games like (Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, Flower, Gran Turismo 5, and Crysis PC). Those games represent the best of their genre and platform as far as graphics are concerned. After that then the next tiers come such as FF13, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed, LBP, Forza 3, etc...

And Come 2011 there will be more games entered into that top tier.

The author pointed out ONE moment of that video (1:30) where the game looked visually impressive. You shouldn't have to do that. If that game is up there with PS3 standards, it's going to have to look like Uncharted 2 ALL THE TIME. Also, that part used a lot of lighting - lighting looks great, period. There's some lighting in WII games that make them look almost 360 quality, but we know they're truly not up there. It's just the effect the light has on our eyes. Didn't look too great on my TV, has good texture work and poly rendering but it's missing the AA to back it up so the environments are filled with jaggies.

While a beautiful game it isnt better looking then uncharted 2. I dont know why people care so much. It doesnt have to look better to be a better game. Best is all opinion anyways. I think alan wake is the most beautiful game on 360. It doesnt matter what it runs at running at 1080 doesnt mean better textures exc. Alan wake has the most detail put into it. The woods, mountain vistas, and charactures made me say damn. Is it better than uncharted 2 thats up to you. Not graphiclly but games look so good now there isnt much dif between the two. Games can do a lot to look better like pre rendered scenes, backgrounds, and gameplay. Uc 2 set the bar and the gameplay backs it up but its not the best game ive played. Zelda oot, mgs3,4, and sotc are all better to me. The dif in 360 and ps3 games isnt any bigger than xbox ps2 days. Play what you enjoy dont pixel count. I cant wait for enslaved myself.

Uncharted still looks a little more detailed than this and i guess because of the average size of the enemies why the camera is so far back. I love the fact that Kojima productions put their touch on it by giving him snakes eye patch.

Why skip to 1:30 to see Uncharted visuals? Right there he's kind of inadvertently saying the first 1:29 aren't up to snuff. If this game looked as good as Uncharted then it should look that way all the time, including the water and stone textures from 2:33 on, but it doesn't.

The water (2:04) here is murky and doesn't leave wakes like Uncharted, just footprint ripples. The water from 2:47 on might as well be ice the way Gabriel's bouncing off it with no effect.

The biggest difference between ps3 and 360 titles is that the 360 games like Halo and Gears are still being played years later, most ps3 titles are forgotten about within weeks.

Maybe Sony should stop stroking their graphics dick and start producing games that have more staying power than a single playthrough.Most of the games you listed are possibly the most linear games I've ever played. I don't give a shit about graphics, I want games that I won't be trading in within days. I can't say that about a single ps3 exclusive I've ever played. The games look good but damn they're short and so linear they may as well be corridor crawlers.

Honestly even if it did manage to match UC2 it not like it's a fair comparison in the first place, it not running a physics engine in the back ground it's not running a intelligent a.i system like reach or UC2, or GEOW for that matter, it can almost solely focus on visuals, Cause unlike the games I just mentioned a lot of the things going on in this game are predetermined, and have no chance of being random, meaning they can control it far more then reach or UC2(more power can go towards things like visuals). On top of this, aren't visuals up to artists and what their talent is. It's not like the engine for the game can magically spout visuals for you -_-(and UC2 pulls of it's visuals with v-sync meaning no tear) Btw how can you tell if it looks as good or worse it' camera is so zoomed out you can't make out tiny details like you can in UC2, anyways does anyone know what kind of AA this uses?

Other then being 3rd person in a jungle this and Uncharted 2 aren't close in graphics. The camera angle is a large difference but the sheer amount of texture and the bump map. Oh well, people are blinded by denial.

I'd say it's somewhere between Uncharted and Batman AA, but not quite Uncharted 2. That said, even though it does look good, it's the extra details that Naughty Dog add in that really make it into something special. For example, none of it was as detailed as the Uncharted 2 city level, and the snow/water effects weren't even comparable.

To be honest, the ps3 does have the better looking exclusives at this point. With GoW3, KZ2 and U2.

But I have yet to see a game that can't be done on the 360. So ps3 having better looking games then the 360 comes down to better developers. Plain and simple.

Wasn't it bound to happen? Uncharted 2 is a year old. Not to mention Bionic Commando has better lighting and textures than Uncharted 2 does in many instances. All you need to do is play THE WORM boss and you'll know this. What an amazing sequence that is.

Uncharted 2 isn't always going to be the best looking game, guys. Get over it. As I said, many games eclipse Uncharted 2 graphically at times. Bionic Commando is just One instance of this being true. Even Saboteur has better character models than Uncharted 2 does. Sean looks way more realistic than Drake does. The game sucks, but it sill boast better looking, more life like, character models.
