Level 5 isnt square, they arent going to ignore our plea for a sequel. WKC2 is the last game in the franchise and now they are working on ninokuni (PS3) maybe after that?

Tommykrem4990d ago

Yeah, Square has always been good at listening to fans. How's that FFVII remake coming along? Nah, I'm just kidding, it's probably underway.

HelghastKid4990d ago

LOL what im saying is Square isnt dependable for shit and Level 5 is. Reading is fundamental my friend.

Dark Cloud 2, along with San Andreas, and Shadow of the Colossus was my FAVORITE PS2 game.

I hated that they focused so much on WKC.

I've never experienced something in RPGs as great as I did in DC2. The music is surreal and emotionally stirring. The world is charming and endearing. It's one of those games that you hold dear to your heart and I've been waiting forever for a sequel.

People have asked Level 5 for DC3 for so long. The JRPG genre needs this game. The PS3 needs this game. This genre has been the most disappointing and I really do hope DC3 can help remind me of the PS2 days of RPGs.

sunnygrg4989d ago

I really do hope that Level-5 starts development on Dark Cloud 3. Its inevitable but the time of release is the only worry. Please bear in mind that Level-5 are currently working on at least 11 titles.

That being said, I cannot wait for the International release of WKC2.

How many copies did Dark Cloud sell? Dark Cloud sold how many?

If these games only sold modestly, I think it's a little selfish of the fans to want Level 5 to make a third one because in this terrible economy studios are closing down right and left. If the IP isn't a moneymaker, why do gamers demand that the studios risk their livelihoods on the "impassioned" requests of a few fans?

Anorexorcist4989d ago (Edited 4989d ago )

Dark Cloud 2 got even more critical praise than the original and debuted at a time when Playstation 2 adoption rates and userbase were bigger than when Dark Cloud 1 launched (which was at launch of the PS2 console).

"If the IP isn't a moneymaker, why do gamers demand that the studios risk their livelihoods on the "impassioned" requests of a few fans?"

That is a logically-reasonable statement, but you must consider the what I like to call the "Family Guy Principle"; If initial interest or sales in a product are below-expectations, but post "impassioned" fan demand for a resurgence or continuation for the product is strong enough, companies will reevaluate their strategic plans and can find financially-plausible cause to resurrect a product. having said that, Dark Cloud has sold well enough in Japan alone, so that part of your comment is not a reasonable concern.

I truly believe it is not a matter of if, but when another Dark Cloud entry releases.

BlackBusterCritic4989d ago

The Atelier series has 10 releases to date, and total sales havent even reached 1 million, yet they released a new Atelier game on PS3, and developing the sequel already. Same goes for the Disgaea series; 8 total games in its library, but just barely reaching 1 million sales total, but they're STILL developing a sequel. We dont know everything that happens at the developer, publisher, and investor segments of gaming, so trying to directly define what determines if a game gets a sequel is pretty much a waste of time for us gamers.

annexation4989d ago

I believe Dark Cloud 2 sold in excess of 1 million.

The far more important thing is, if Sony is willing to fund the project, that is what matters. Obviously Level 5 would have to be on board, but if it's about success, DC3 is more of a safe bet than WKC ever was. The 2nd game sold fairly well for a non-FF or DQ RPG, and it sold enough to where a sequel should at least make a profit. Sony has proven that they are willing to back a project even if it seems like a "risk," if it's a project that will deliver a quality and unique experience (let's face it, good JRPGs are very unique this generation).

Anyway, apart from that, I very much hope they start work on DC3, as it is my top most wanted game at the moment (with a few others right there with it).

Capt-FuzzyPants4989d ago

If they do go bankrupt i have faith in Square or another major Japanese company to buy them out so they continue to make great games.

But that Ninokuni game they're making is looking phenominal, I'd be more than happy to just play that until they release DC3.

DA_SHREDDER4990d ago

Yo, forget this game. I think a petition to Sega for a Skies sequel is more important than this.

Sigh4989d ago

I think Dark Cloud 3 is imminent. It's just Level-5 is still busy making other stuff.

-Judge_Fudge4989d ago

dont care for this casue im too busy being delicious

LeonSKennedy4Life4989d ago

Please!!!

I love Dark Cloud!

I love WKC and Rogue Galaxy also, but I want DC3 more!

Didn't expect to see Drakengard in a list like this, considering the awful gameplay. Still, it's the best terrible game I've ever played. 10/10 would recommend

Would love to see a remake one day, but only if they don't censor the fucked up story and characters. That and a Drakengard 3 remake, of course.

Vits17d ago

Drakengard made it onto the list mainly because Nier gave it a cult following later on. Honestly, it wouldn't have made the cut for any ACTION RPG list on its own. The characters are cool, the story is mess up in a good way, the lore is confusing and great, but the gameplay alone kill any chance of it being a recomended ACTION RPG.

Would love a remake of the series with updated gameplay. Drakengard 3 with Automata's hack and slash would be gold.

DarXyde18d ago

Some absolute gems on this list. Wholeheartedly agree with Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud 2, Radiata Stories, Odin Sphere, and Devil Summoner 2.

Some others, I can't comment on because I've never played or I didn't feel particularly strongly about them.

But hot take: I don't think Kingdom Hearts II really survives the test of time.

RavenWolfx17d ago

I cannot recommend Rogue Galaxy enough. It is on PSN+ as part of the subscription, so definitely check it out.

Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle) – How to Increase Health and Defense

In Dark Cloud 2, it seems very easy to die to enemies. Enemies are just too hard to kill, and do way too much damage. There is one thing that can help you survive longer: Potato Pies, Witch Parfait, and Eden Fruits.

These items are scattered around Palm Brinks as well as the future world at different points of the game. As you adventure forward and change the future, new small chests, called “Miracle Chests”, will spawn in the future world.

Eidolon1010d ago

AriesBear1010d ago

Absolutely. True action rpg gems that now run at 1080p I’m in.

AriesBear1010d ago

Show some respect to one of the best action RPG‘s ever made it’s timeless. And with all the crap that’s out today it deserves to be mentioned

Teflon021010d ago

Dark Cloud 2 is literally my favourite game of all time. I owned the PS4 release day one. Owned the PS2 copy from 2 days after release and still got it. Doesn't change the fact this article is the weirdest timing ever, especially since those upgrades you'll run into basically no matter what and when you do, thing blinks like crazy telling you to use it immediately lol. They got a million guides for the game and not like it's a new rerelease. God tier game but pointless article, even if I clicked because it mentioned the greatest game of all time lol

Eidolon1010d ago (Edited 1010d ago )

Exactly what Teflon02 said. I'm not shtting on Dark Cloud 2, it's part of my childhood.

AriesBear1010d ago

Just reinvigorated me to play it! Thank you.

The grind for this platinum was so real

Time Crisis! I still have it with the gun. Just not the right old tech tv to run it sadly.
