Xbox 360 Version of Black Ops Prestige Edition Trouncing PS3 Version in Sales

It’s been long enough to look at preliminary sales date taken from one retailer, which shows that not only is the Xbox 360 version of Black Ops Prestige Edition beating the PS3 version, but it’s beating it by a large margin.

Some websites make a living off of "pitting" single console owners against each other.

blitz06234997d ago

I'm surprised given that Halo Reach comes out in the same quarter, but given the history of 360 owners this shouldn't really come as a surprise

presto7174997d ago

There is barely any difference. I'm surprised sales aren't split across the platforms roughly evenly

Biggest4997d ago

They started selling it already? No one on my friend list is playing it. Or are they making noise about pre-orders again?

SeanRL4997d ago

Stupid retards, not just the 360 ones, anyone who buys this game.

ExplosionSauce4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Amazon pre-orders Ooooh
Lol

What's the point of this article anyway?

NecrumSlavery4997d ago

360 feeds on third party content. Giving Activision a billion dollars to secure this gens COD DLC as timed exclusive, is a big deal to gamers apparently. Shooter fans need shooter thing to fill their shooter craving hearts

gamingdroid4997d ago

"why is 360 version getting more preorders?"

Most likely it is game genre preference on each respective platforms. Call of Duty franchise has always been huge on the Xbox 360.

bioshock12214997d ago

Yeah I know I don't know why everyone would be surprised by this COD games have always sold better on the Xbox 360 so I don't expect any different from COD Black Ops. It would be more surprising if it where the other way around.

morganfell4997d ago

Remember all of the screaming people did about the crappy nature of MW2? And that is what they are bragging about? Being a repeat sucker?

Persistantthug4997d ago

Both versions will sell a spitload of copies, netting ACTIVISION a spitload of money.

Modern Warfare 2 sold 11 million units on the 360 and 8 million units on the PS3.

That's alot of money either way....why do I care which version gives Activision more money when they've already made them a half billion dollars on each one?

I'm not following, I guess.

SilentNegotiator4997d ago

Preorder information on Amazon brought to you by "Gears of Words" at wordpress.

For one, no duh Black ops will sell more on the 360. Call of Duty has been on the 360 since launch (COD2) and there are more 360s out there.

And calling preorders "sales"? Silly Willy.

sikbeta4997d ago

And the answer for that is in the price, WTF! $150 for an every year COD... Please...

n4gno4997d ago

More call of noobs players on xbox, less great exclusives, no move = more call of duty sold, logic.

InactiveUser4997d ago

Good. What does this show? PS3 owners are smarter than 360 owners? It's just MW2 repackaged and sold to you at full price again. I thought I was watching MW2 gameplay in the Black Ops trailer.. just with a couple different weapons.

InactiveUser4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Wow, $150
+ a couple $15 map packs (think Activision will try $20 this time?)
+ $50 Xbox Live
= LMAO amounts of $$$ to play MW2 again with a couple new weapons.

No thanks.. Haven't bought any CoD's yet and I'm plenty happy without them. I'll think about picking it up for the campaign when it hits $3-5.

InactiveUser4997d ago

Make a big deal about a $599 launch PS3 (being the cheapest Blu-ray player at the time, a PS3, PS2, PS1, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, Super-Audio CD, SD, USB, Memory Stick, CF, built in Wifi, Bluetooth, Harddrive standard, HDMI standard, 7.1 surround sound, etc.)

Then gloat about paying $230+ ($150 + map packs + Xbox Live fee) to play a game on your 360, lol.

"We preordered more $230 games than you, ha ha ha."
OK... good luck with that.

How can you complain about the one and then brag about buying/playing a rehashed game for $230 on a 5 year old console?

nveenio4997d ago

So what does this prove exactly? That 360 owners are willing to pay an insane amount of money on a stupid video game and PS3 owners won't? Because PS3 owners paid more for their system. I guess it balances out in the end.

DarkSpawnClone4997d ago

lmafo no game is worth 150$ especially Cod.Much better games coming out to even think about cod i have 6 cod games ..i don't need more -_- there getting boring and its just the same thing over and over on a new map.

0mega44997d ago

for xbox we have one good exclusive this year Reach

we have less options as far as game this year

as ps3 has lbp2 gt5 all coming out in the same period

weazel4997d ago

Who would honestly have the raging lack of self esteem or awareness needed to drive a $80 'toy' spy car with pretend semtex attached around?
12 year olds and......
..nah. That's it. pew, pew, pew.

(Wait. This is Activision we're talking about here, so twelve year olds with access to their parents credit cards and pins.)

Kill Crow4996d ago

last year PS3 owners would say this is because the 360 was out a year longer etc etc ..

But now that the install base is down to only 3 million, what do they say?

insomnium4996d ago

I just love your logic. Agreed and bubbles +.

Droid Smasha4997d ago

MS has early DLC for COD:BO of course thats the version ppl will buy

ChronoJoe4997d ago

It has absolutely nothing to do with that.

PS3 owned just have never cared about COD - as much as 360 fans. PS3 owners prefer a broader range of game genres, typically. And have more competition for there attention in the military FPS market. (Killzone, MAG, Socom).

Zechs344997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Well said Joe
Edit: @ Below, says who, you? The analyst for Microsoft? Mediocre, damn please point me to your site where you review these games with all the systems you have... Thought so

Skadoosh4997d ago

Joe, you know that Modern Warfare 2 sold more than any of the games you mentioned combined? You're talking about the biggest military shooter this gen. Sure it had online bugs and noobfests but it's still a beast of a game. The games you mention are mediocre at best.

Persistantthug4997d ago

But the ratio of PS3 only owners who do not like or care about Call Of Duty is probably greater there.

Myself, for example, I bought my PS3 in January 2009, and I have yet to buy a COD game.

I did play MW2 last Jan (2010) on my little nephew's XBOX 360...my first play with a COD game.

I liked the single player, but after a few minutes of watching him go 18-0 and then 15-0 in the multiplayer, where he didn't die once because he safely sat in a bedroom and killed everything that moved.......I asked my nephew to put the single player back on.

That's my personal experience.

ChronoJoe4997d ago

I'm fully aware that it's sold more than those other titles, but that doesn't mean that they are not competition for it's target consumers attention. On the PS3s side.

That, stacked on top of lesser interest in the FPS, overall, with more interest in other genres like Adventure. (See Batman AAs sales figures). And slightly lesser attach rates and overall install base mean that every Call of Duty game, will outsell it's PS3 counterpart. Irrespective of how it's presented (with special editions, with exclusive DLC).

I mean, if the PS3 version was selling better, that'd be a newsworthy shocker.

avengers19784997d ago

OH wait I can pay more money for the same game sign me up... no thanks I've got a regular copy on reserve and that's fine. FOR PS3 OF COURSE

tinybigman4997d ago

western gaming media is f*cking retarded.

JsonHenry4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

You mean like this one? :)

I am getting the PC version.

BattleAxe4997d ago

Thats ok, I wonder where the XBOX 360 pre orders are sitting for Killzone 3, Socom 4 and Gran Turismo 5 right now.....oh wait, none of these games are on the 360.

-MD-4997d ago

I love how none of that is relevant to this.

Corepred44997d ago

I love how you only have one bubble.

Roozium4996d ago

Now I'm gonna be you, an ignorant fanboy but on the otherside.

Thats ok, I wonder where the PS3 pre orders are sitting for Halo Reach, Gears of War 3 and Fable 3 right now...oh wait, none of these games are on the PS3.

Darrius Cole4997d ago

Anyone think that the free game that comes in the Medal of Honor may have something to do with that.

Commodore4997d ago

Well I've been saying it since the beginning of the whole "console war".

PS3 owners are older and can't afford to go out and buy every single over priced, stupid, $150 "special" edition of every game....especially in this economy.

Now 360 owners on the other hand are little bratty kids who bitch and moan until they get what they want.

I believe we have video of this happening.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

....I can see why it works.

kneon4997d ago

Hold on there, I'm definitely one of those old PS3 owners and I can afford whatever I want. The difference is I don't care about this prestige edition. I did order the Little Big Planet Collectors edition and the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood collectors edition but this prestige edition is uninteresting to me.

Commodore4997d ago

Ya, I don't mean to say that PS3 owners are poor. I am one.

But we have a lot more things on our plate. I also decide not to buy stupid special editions. Hell, I'm not even buying this game because Call Of Duty sucks ass anymore.

XactGamer4997d ago

And some fanboys on this site make a living complaining about it

Shamuz4997d ago

Agreed, it's kinda sad tbh.

N4BmpS4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Uh is this site seriously making this comparison, of how many people are ordering CoD: Black Ops Prestige Edition? Now, I don't like to say these types of things because it makes me sad really but they're trying to take cheap pathetic shots at the PS3 simple. Rather sad if you ask me and if you look at the name of the website gearsofwords.com? I guess if they're going to bash a console or take cheap shots at it, might as well drag a 360 game down with them.

I bought 2 CoD games and I think that's all I'll buy from this series. Soooo I'm sure there are a lot of gamers with that in mind (360 and PS3 gamers)

DigitalAnalog4997d ago

It shows that the PS3 fanbase on COD are not as strong as before. I hope the gap widens in the following years to come.

**I love news like this..

-End statement

NY_Pride4997d ago

PS3 user no crap when they see it.

NY_Pride4996d ago

I was sleepy as fook when I wrote that. lol

Threesix4997d ago

Wow look at how all of a sudden PS3 people are angling for the "sophisticated gamer" and downplaying the entire COD franchise because more people want to play it on the 360 with its better online communication system. "Why who would want to play that TRIPE! Give me some cultured games that I can play unlike those 360 groundlings!"

If it was the other way around with PS3 beating the 360, the same people would be saying "Hell yeah! 360 sucks and this is just more proof that I constantly seek to justify my console purchase! LOL!" or at least more of that than what's already seen.

IMChampion4997d ago

Not really surprised here. We all know Call of Duty is practically a Xbox title and that the Xbox audience love themselves some FPS.

MariaHelFutura4997d ago

This game will sell well on all platforms it`s on. Regardless of how good or bad it is.

dkgshiz4997d ago

This game will probably surpass 12 million sales in its 1st year alone. It gives me stomach pains just saying that.

karl4997d ago

yeah fuck call of duty....

playstation_clan4997d ago

i still think people who buy this game every year shouldnt be considered gamers at all. ITs the same game, like all call of duty games, stop buying the hype and support games that are innovative

SaberEdge4997d ago

Yes, that's why the Call of Duty games are some of the best selling games on the PS3 by far.

bennyace4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

That 3 of the top 5 best selling games on PS3 are : modern warfare, modern warfare 2 and world at war... Aren't those from the CoD franchise?

You can't denie the fact the CoD is a very successful franchise. Numbers don't lie.

Knuxxx4996d ago

Though this isn't an issue of total sales on either system. this is about 360 owners blowing their cash on what could be the biggest swindle in history. Paying well over double the price of the original game two years in a row for what? some NV goggles and a RC toy? Congrats you can now play with your toys in the dark and not have to worry about mommy and daddy seeing the lights on in your room anymore, I hope it was worth it.

You're right, number's don't lie, and based off that fact, there's a good amount of people out there on either console who's "numbers" are low indeed...

Godmars2904997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Let's just ignore the bigger issue of Activision pushing a $149 - F*CKING ONE HUNDRED FORTY-NINE F*CKING DOLLARS?! - version of a game.

No, lets just ignore the utter morons who are putting money in the pocket of the company that wants to charge online for games like this one...

big_silky4997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

It always amuses me when everybody cries poverty and how there's more games out than they can afford yet they'll willingly slap down $80, $100, $150 for an edition that comes with some dollar store level tchotkes or a $10 Walmart RC car. I'd rather have the 2, almost 3 new games that $150 will get me.

rdgneoz34997d ago

Yep, I'd rather spend that $150 on 2 to 3 other games. And seeing as Nov has a ton of good games (GT5, LB2, AC:B, ...), why waste money on a $10 RC car when you could spend it elsewhere. Some limited editions of games are worth it, others like this just try to milk you for more money. And the funny thing is that idiots will buy into it and put down the money.

BattleAxe4997d ago

Back in 2003 when I bought Socom 2 for PS2, I paid $69.99. Games haven't really changed in terms of pricing. I remember the original Final Fantasy for the NES was $100.

swinesucker4997d ago

Honestly, who the fuck are these losers?

Ivan Drago IV4997d ago

We are talking about the same gamers who pay 12 bucks just to change their gamertag and 50 bucks to just simply play a game online. No surprise here

Cold 20004997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Yeah dude whatever.

Anyways its def not the GT5 effect since the prorders for Black Ops on PS3 are higher than those for GT5.

silvacrest4997d ago

preorders can easily be cancel'd i've done it enough times

anyway, the bigger issue at hand is why on earth are people paying so much more extra for bullshit?

iHEARTboobs4997d ago

Again with the movers and shakers. This has no significance whatsoever.

Black Ops 1 Nuketown versus Cold War Nuketown '84

From DownSights: "Black Ops is not Black Ops without Nuketown. Following the tradition of releasing Nuketown for Black Ops games, the new Black Ops Cold War game also offers a revamped Nuketown called Nuketown '84.

Nuketown '84 has the same dimensions and map layout except for the aesthetics. The map's aesthetics have changed to fit the 80s theme, with destroyed buildings and graffiti-filled walls compared to a clean 50s suburban neighborhood seen in Black Ops 1."
