Who's to say the 360S isn't reliable? Just a sketchy photograph and a lame YouTube video with a super loud fan in the background, so loud it couldn't possibly come from the 360S? I own the 360S, I used to own a launch 360. The fan noise in the youtube video sounds like a launch console.

what Microsoft fails to realize is that they are not hardware manufactures. They are SOFTWARE. They should actually work on becoming an EA/Activision type of company. Flex their muscles and just MAKE games not consoles. Activision does just fine @ the stocks and M$ could become one of the largest publisher in 10 years. Let Sony,Nintendo and maybe Sega battle it out..

Well I will say to that is look at Activision. M$ could still make money online. Gamers love games, therefore they will PAY to play them. M$ could simply set up dedicated servers for their games and do something what Valve is doing with Steam on PS3 for Portal2. They basically offer the people that buy their games a unique online experience they will win from software sales. Not to mention the fact that M$ pretty much invented the idea of paid DLC, so they will make tons of money there. They are just simply not a hardware maker. They never have been. Software and the machines that run it are 2 very different beasts, and so far every piece of hardware M$ has made has either fizzled in consumer interest, broke, or cost them too much money. Windows however has made them enough money to do what ever the hell they want, as long as they don't monopolize.

But they aren't. Sony is the one with all the big development studios. So Microsoft should just do software with Rare and Turn 10. Here is something to think about. If Microsoft had have bought Rockstar San Diego back in the day, before they became huge, when they made the Midtown Madness games that is, that would be a hell of a studio to own.

is beyond me. Just buy the unit from Best Buy and for $30.00 you get a 2 year INSTANT replacement plan. All you do is bring it in, say it's not working and they send you to the isle to pick up a new one.

Hell, every time a new PS3 bundle comes out I take my old one in say it's freezing up and grab the new bundle. Got the Uncharted one that way, the Metal Gear, Infamous/Killzone 2....

Just get an in-store warranty. It kind of sucks, but at the same time 1 year is the standard. They seem to be confident in their hardware, but personally I don't think I'll trust them again this generation. I'm going to get one, but will probably pick up an additional warranty.

Actually if anything the lack of any warranty just shows a lack of confidence on their hardware's reliability. But then its a new design so they are within their rights to go back to the standard 1 year warranty.

It just remains to be seen whether history repeats itself.

If the new consoles start failing at a high rate they had better fire their whole hardware engineer team, because they're all clearly working as double agents from Sony. That's the only logical reason they could end up with 2 massive hardware failures. The only other reason I could even come up with would be "Hahaha, are fans are so loyal we can sell them faulty hardware and they just keep buying more! We have hit the jackpot with these people!"

My 360S has been left on for over 10 hours today. I've been playing games and leaving it idle. I have had no issues. I don't believe the photo of the red light of death and I don't believe the sketchy youtube video. Every store I've contacted is sold out of the 360S, which means that a lot of them are being sold. If this were a widespread problem, there would be more than two incidents considering the initial shipment (probably a million) is probably sold out.

That's in no way educated. I could outright say the Wii and PS3 is sold out of system. Does that mean a lot of them are being sold.

Did it ever occur to him that stores could only get a few of the things like our store did? Want to know how many we got at the end of last week? 2....Friggin' 2 consoles. How many more are we going to get? We don't know because at E3 they just said "Ship them!", without any form of information as far as to how many there will be in the area. All we got was an e-mail stating that we'll get some more in.

Not only that, but he's just brown nosing in every article about this. It's as if people are going to forgive heavy past mistakes and flaunt into grabbing these right away. Hell the only ones that did grab the ones at our store were people that held out on getting the 360 to begin with.

It was just an arbitrary number. All the stores I've contacted are sold out. Amazon is sold out, Best Buy online is sold out... I just guessed a million units shipped throughout the country, figuring stores receive 6-10 consoles? It's just an estimate. Fine, half that number, 500,000 units.... So there 2 "documented" cases out of 500,000? What about 100,000? 2 out of 100,000 is still a low number....

What research? Where did he state DOCUMENTED DATA about how many units were shipped? Or how many units were reported faulty? The numbers he is using is purely a guess. And who contacts stores to see if an item is in stock when they already have one? A fanboy does.

Either to brag about how well it's doing or how poorly. There are no good fanboys and they all suck, making gaming worse for the lot of us.

We should ALL want more from these companies and demand that they give it to us for our hard earned cash. We will NOT accept overpriced and unreliable goods, from ANYONE. Fanboys ignore that and give these companies leeway and confirmation that we are all SHEEP to be sheared.

Here in Norway we have a forced by law 2 year warranty on all electronics, and a 5 year "reclamation period" for most stuff:)

The standard warranty was ALWAYS 1 year for both Original and S models.

Consoles that came out when I was growing up were, by far, the most reliable consoles ever made and none of the systems sold today will last nearly as long.

Now, granted, both companies have taken steps in the right direction to make their systems more reliable, but the systems from yesteryear are way more reliable.

Even consoles of yesteryear failed! My NES didn't work after so long due to dust I guess. My SNES fried on me a few years after I got it. PS1, had to be turned on it's side. PS2 had DRE, at least that was an easy fix just clean it off. PS3 40gb lens just went out today :( Tried cleaning it but didn't fix it. I'll have to order a new one for 70 bucks and hope it fixes the problem, or buy a new slim.

Point is all pieces of hardware fail, or go wacky after a while. Only consoles of mine that didn't have any problems I can remember, were my Genesis and N64, but I didn't use either of those systems all that much. Genesis saw a lot MK on it due to the blood but that's about it! N64 all I played was Mario and Ocarina.

They did the right thing with the older models, offering 3 year warranties. I just got a new Model S 360 4 day's ago and it's solid. It runs about as hot as the PS3 slim and doesn't make a noise and is in general well built. It has a cutoff if it overheats, which all electronics should have.
People are expecting the same issues with the new models as the older ones, but that was a rushed out mistake. The first Xbox was a beast and never had any issues. I trust this new version 100%, or else I wouldn't have spent money upgrading to it. Same with the PS3 Slim, it takes up less Electricity and I felt that it would run cooler.
This is not bad news, it's good news.
