More Sega classics set for 21st century sequels

Critical Gamer writes: As soon as Sonic 4 – the ‘proper’ Sonic sequel fans were crying out for for years – was announced, the internet was ablaze with electronic cheers and rumours. It now seems that perhaps more Sega classics will be getting ‘proper’ modern sequels. This has been hinted at not by the Sega teaboy whilst tipsy down the pub, but Sega America’s vice – president of sales and marketing, Alan Pritchard.

streets of rage, toe jam and earl would all do nicely.

I want more arcade remakes. After burner climax has me itching to play new versions of thunder blade, galaxy force and hang on. Maybe they can see fit to finally release planet harriers as well.

Streets of Rage for me please

Yi-Long5092d ago

... a 3D game, with MadWorld style environmental interactivity, Naruto US style cellshading, and a nice collection of characters and ofcourse a brilliant soundtrack once again by Koshiro.

Graphics style has to be very colourful and very close to the design of the original games, and not 'realistic' 3D.

Road Rash and a new Dessert/Jungle/Urban Strike would b the Sega classics id like

Brewski0075092d ago

Road Rash, Streets of Rage, all the Dessert/Jungle/Urban Strike games and shinobi.
They'd all do for me :)

Those games are EA classics that were on a sega platform. I am thinking this is more about real SEGA classics. I am looking at arcade remakes of thunder blade, galaxy force, space harrier (technically...platen harriers is a remake of space harrier).

If they are referring to console classics then comix zone, vectorman, toe jam and earl, streets of rage would all be sega classics that i welcome remakes to.

Yeah kinda thouht that aswel but thought people would understand wot im gettin at

"Does this mean that upcoming sequels and remakes will, like the new Sonic, be in 2D"
New Sonic is 3D but sidescrolling. It's like saying Street Fighter IV is 2D.

Cubes5092d ago

Yeah Streets of Rage is a must I'd say.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken21d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake21d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
