In Japan, it's the end of two eras this month, as the final PS2 RPG is shipped as well as the final .hack game.
.hack (Dot Hack) is a gaming series that started when technology was still evolving and growing. These games showed us some of the horrors but also the best parts of online gaming. But these games are decades old, and perhaps it's time for a remake, a remaster, or even a game in the series.
the OG games, yes they do.
but.. they are very niche to begin with.
bk then, i only knew one person who played the games, beside me.
The Xenosaga trilogy also needs a remake or at least a remaster. I never got into .hack when they came out on the PS2 I would try them out. A remake or a remaster would be great I am not paying an arm and a leg for the original games.
Ys series producer Kondo talks about the series' past, and the upcoming Ys X in this interview commemorating the series' 35th anniversary.
I hope 10 is more like 8 or previous games . 9 wasn’t bad and had some good elements but the zones were annoying to have to clear enough orbs for points to get to next zone . Unnecessary imo. Combat was fun and story was ok but it wasn’t as good as 8 7 6 etc . It’s still one of my favorite franchises . Just bought Ys Book 1&2 on DS . I have the Turbo Grafx 16 copy also .
Back in 2010, Bandai Namco released .hack//Link for PSP in Japan, developed by CyberConnect2, but it never came west.
Such a shame .hack is being killed off. Everyone who played and enjoyed the series always hoped for an eventual online component to play "The World."
The series has a very well developed universe and a great fan following that could only get bigger if they tried to up the ante with a new console release. I hope this development team comes up with some new awesome RPG series to take its place or one day comes back and makes "The World" MMO we all wish existed. :)
well, there was actually a version of the original games where you could play with 2 other people from a lobby and quest in a keyword area. it was called Fragment. didnt sell amazingly in japan and they never ported it over here. but ya...ive been a long time .hack fanboy since the original anime and games aired, i remember waiting for the next releases eagerly for months with the first games. im very sad to see the end of it, i really loved it...maybe some of the stuf that didnt make it over here will get brought over in the future
