Jeuxvideo: Heavy Rain Review

Jeuxvideo: Better presented and more homogeneous than Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain presents himself as a open book on a universe rocking quickly in horror. True interactive film or false video game?

to post this review, just I want to inform you before the flamewar begins, Jeuxvideo.com is the most biased french videogame site, they like nothing especially PS3/PS2 exclusives, like the video review of MGS4, they intentionaly played the game in very very easy, and were yelling:
"Look at the dumb AI, PS3 is doomed, MGS4 is stupid!" Of course when you play the game at that level of difficulty, even if you stay in front of the guards, they won't even notice you.Knowing that when I played MGS4 in liquid normal, I was bleeding from my fingers to tell you how it was difficult, guards not giving you any rest, I answred them at that time and they responded: "Huh and in difficult modus, the guards can see through walls, still stupid game!", to show how lame they are, no one rely on their reviews, because they think they are the wisest reviewers on earth and they can criticies everything like they want, here for instance, they began playing the game with prejudice, and they repeated it in every sentence; this game will suck, it's a seven/saw refernce, this gonna suck etc etc till the end, I saw Saw and Seven and only reference to them was the cutting finger(saw), and it's not a bad thing, but when they gave 15/20 to the graphics and 15/20 to the story, and in their review they mentionned that the game contains more tha 60 chapters with many scenes and all scenes play differently each time with every scene influencing the upcoming ones, without forgetting more than 20 different endings, all I can say about them, that they rickrolled themselves, ridiculased and proved how much delusional their site is, screw them! And please never read any review coming from them, they are more biased than eurogamer!

gaffyh5190d ago

Still a good review though. 7.5/10 = Good at least, and I know how good it is since I played the demo ages ago. Can't wait till you guys get to try it out on Feb 11.

DaTruth5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

These jerks single-handedly knocked .4 off the Metacritic score! Some @sse$ had to go and do it!

@Green: I think 9.2 Metacritic qualifies it as that. But we know you wouldn't comment in the other perfect score reviews! You've been waiting a long time to troll this game going through ten great reviews before this came up!

@Below: LMAO, you have no life and insult people for no reason in internet threads. Grow up!

LordMarius5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

LMAO, now he is talking to himself

YogiBear5190d ago

I thought your comment would be AAA but of course I was disappointed again.

Sangria5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

I agree with Plastica-man, I worked for Jeuxvideo few months and the only way to describe them: A bunch of amateurs with pro resources. The site is the first video game site in France in terms of popularity but not in terms of quality.

I'd rather wait for Gamekult review. Even if GK give a 7/10 to Heavy Rain, at least I know their reviewers are trustable and they point real arguments in their reviews. Jeuxvideo.com is the equivalent of VGchartz, highly popular but not reliable.

Information Minister5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

@ GreenRingOfLife
Yeah, because no game is AAA until Jeuxvideo says so.../s

@ DaTruth
I think MariusElijah was referring to Bungies' comment (Bungie = GreenRingOfLife).

Bungie5190d ago

keep in mind it's just one opinion and it's not like 7.5 a bad score

Saaking5190d ago

Wow, that was a terrible review.

Marceles5190d ago

"better than Fahrenheit, 7.5." lol...what the hell?

bjornbear5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

so jeuxvideo counts but ALL the other random french websites you complained about don't?

are you special?

SilentNegotiator5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

I added a google translation version (And screwed up on titling it :P ) because babel fish translation is horrible.

Bungie/RedLightofDeath is talking to himself, lol.

DatNJDom815190d ago

................ LMAO!!! So Yea........

Baka-akaB5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

Before trolls rejoice or anything like probably posted above , Jeuxvideo.com is the most ridiculed french webzine , and considered a "noobland" . Not something to do with anti ps3 ... pro ps3 ... anti 360 or pro . They just have always been failures every generations .

Most people only go there because they have an extensive database of french faqs , like gamefaqs .

AND LOL at people that can't even read french yet gives it some credit .
What's next babelfish some harsh critic from thailand ? :p

Triella5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

There are a bunch of other reviews from french sites :

Jeuvideopc.com : 8.5/10 http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/...

Playfrance : 9/10

JVN.com : 9.5/10

KiRBY30005190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

jeuxvideo.com is not biased all the time, they have a lot of different reviewers. BUT the guy who wrote the review (Logan) is a big 360 fanboy who loves to be harsh on PS3 exclusives.

almost a year ago, there was already plenty of people asking the website (jeuxvideo.com) not to let Logan write the Heavy Rain review because they knew he was going to just mess around... and look who wrote it. bingo.

basically in his review he's trying to make the game look like it's an "ok" game and that there is nothing special about it. he emphasys the flaws of the game to make them look more important than they really are while he just skip talking about the good parts. hate this guy.

dont worry, the mods can see our IPs, and I am pretty sure they ban ppl for having multiple accounts. so since we are not banned its obvious we are two seperate ppl.

Epic fail of a review.

Thanks for the warning Plastica.

bjornbear5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

schitzo....

pimpmaster5190d ago

did anyne really expect this 'game' to get a good score? you can hardly even call it a game its more of a interactive movie. shure ill defenetly rent it but to me this game just isnt the right type to warrant a purchase no matter how good it is.

Bigpappy5190d ago

I saw some site gave mag a 6. People with high expectations for reviews are too invested in something that is very subjective. This is only saying that some people don't really like this type of game.

xabmol5190d ago

Well I really enjoyed Fahrenheit and if HR is better, then it's a D1P regardless of score.

Grandmaster5190d ago

@PLASTICA-MAN Nice to know lol

PrimordialSoupBase5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

When an exclusive comes out, retards do too. A publication can give a game 7.5 and still like it. Deal with it. You can even have a negative opinion of a game simply because of the reaction the GAME elicits, you know like how a platform has Nothing to do with it?

You're a bunch of mental cases worthy only of lols.

randomwiz5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

I dont know how many of you know french culture, but from what I've studied, in French schools, they grade on an out of 20 scale. This review also graded out of 20. French schools are harsh, which is why a 15/20 is a pretty good grade in France.(from what I've studied)

if you want further clarification... they give the game's graphics a 15/20. Which may not sound like a good score to you, but in the French grading system, its a pretty good score.

Guido5190d ago

Another fanturd review to help fuel the Xbox fanboy hatred towards an inovative and fresh new IP. Kudos to the idiot author of this review! He sure knows how to spread chit over the net!

nveenio5190d ago

Alright, fellow PS3 players and Heavy Rain lovers. Let me make something perfectly clear:

Heavy Rain is a niche game. It's something you either get, or you don't. If people don't get it, it won't score well. So, don't be disappointed with 'bad' reviews. I don't get the Halo franchise...AT ALL. I just can't understand it. The same with Gears of War. Sure, they can be fun for a little while, but I really have absolutely no interest whatsoever in subsequent releases of either franchise. Likewise, there are people who couldn't care less about Heavy Rain. When they review it, it shows.

So...DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. Grab the demo next week and THEN decide if you want more.

sikbeta5190d ago

Of-Topic:

How GreenRingOfLife and Bungie could post 2 comments, 1 after the other if is The SAME PERSON with Different accounts...?

On-Topic:

I never knew about this site, but not for that I'll dismiss this site, I'm not Shocked Either, this game is not for anyone, a good example are the MW2 kids that never in the life will going to play this game, cuz is not a FPS, so is quite understandable

No matter what, I'll buy this game, cuz I think DC made a Masterpiece and didn't ruined like with indigo/F

VARIETY FTW!!!

JANF5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

Finally the real reviews are coming in. 7.5 is a good score for this game/movie.

Lifendz5190d ago

It's really really different. 7.5 is a good score. Maybe the game wasn't this reviewer's cup of tea. I guarentee in the end this game has a AAA ranking on GameRankings and maybe even Metacritic.

Well Heavy Rain was never going to please them all, although 15/20 is hardly something to get upset about.

My only gripe with the review has to be the visual score, 15/20, that seems a little low, especially when MAG received 16/20, although I suppose if you take the sheer scale of MAG into account it can be justified, but on face value it surely doesnt match up to HR.

Roll on release day.

Elven65191d ago

Indigo Prophecy was the same way, it was polarizing but it still did enough to sell a lot of copies and gain a fanbse.

Killzonegamer845191d ago

this site isnt even on metacritic.. Move along

kingdavid5190d ago

LOL at some of you clowns at disregarding the review just because of the score at the end. I guess thats what gaming has come to these days...

Jeuxvideo have always been notoriously harsh. I remember when they released their early review for GTA 4 and gave it around the same score and people were up in arms.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1251d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1251d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1250d ago (Edited 1250d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.

Have you played Detroit? While it’s my personal favorite, I fully understand many preferring Heavy Rain more. I’m glad you enjoyed Heavy Rain too.

bouzebbal1408d ago

def. one of my top 3 best experiences on PS3

ClayRules20121408d ago

bouzebbal

That’s awesome to hear! What’re the other 2 best experiences?

akaFullMetal1408d ago

Great game, need to get started on Detroit soon.

ClayRules20121408d ago

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yes, Detroit is a masterpiece of a game, and their best work to date “in my opinion”

ClayRules20121408d ago

Wow, 10 years...and yet, still one of the best/most emotional/thrilling gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So grateful to Sony for believing in Quantic Dream’s vision for this game, and giving them a chance. I’ll never forget David Cage saying “We want to challenge the player, but not with the controller, but mentally, with their decisions of “How far would you go to save someone you love” Well, they broke my emotional gamer heart lol.

My teenage son refuses to play this game, because I’ve told him in little detail the emotional impact it had on me all those years ago. Maybe one day he will.

Still have my origami crane they teach you how to make when you're installing for the first time.

it's been 10 years? wow, that was so fast, I feel like this console gen went fast as well although it hasn't. I really look forward to the PS5 this holiday season though.
