Nintendo, Sony and MS report sold to retailers on their quarterly accounts (the numbers are meant for investors not for us and its the retailers who pay them the money.)

Everyone reports numbers shipped to retailers, no matter what some random Sony exec said. The fact is, there is no way to accurately track the number sold to consumers unless each consumer who purchases an item self reports and consumers do not; that's a fact. NPD, ChartTrack and Media Create all track numbers shipped to retailers with some retailers even excluded and not accounted for.

got it for PS3 and can't wait to get it going this weekend. Some of the most fun moments I've ever had were playing multiplayer with a group of friends. I can't believe the backlash the game's getting. The single player in the first one was short. I got my money's worth on the multiplayer. And it's not like they pulled an ODST and gave me maps I already had. These are all brand new maps.

If you're a PC guy and feel burned, hey, I sympathize. But as a PC guy you have a plethora of games like Modern Warfare to choose from. And Battlefield is coming. So let the console guys, like me, enjoy the game.

Well thats alot of sales if true. Maybe with all 3 versions selling an insane amount. Who knows. I did rent mine at BBV and they must have had at least 30-40 copies for rent between ps3 and 360. More were for 360 but I have never seen a BBV have taht many copies of a game for either ps3 or 360. I think they know they will be able to sell some used copies of it layer I guess. With alot of BBVs and GF getting massive copies and some really insane sales worldwide it could be possible.

Some people are out of their f'in mind! The multiplayer maps are some of the best I have ever played! The graphics are beautiful. One map in particular (Afghan) looks on par with some of the Ps3 exclusive games. If you are worried about the auto target thing, it does not show up in the multiplayer, or at least it didn't for me. If you miss out on this, you are truely not a gamer! To me, it seems like IW set this game up to go against all competitors. You even have 3rd person multiplayer modes to compete with the Socom crowd. The maps are large and have multiple routes and hiding spots. I know some of the stuff people have heard makes them thinks this will be a noob fest like Halo, but trust me you're wrong. This game will be popular for a long time!

Hell, I haven't even got to play the spec-ops mode yet and i'm hooked. So in so many words, don't waste your time hating this game because there is alot of fun to be had here!

I'm absolutely loving it.

The single player is great, if a little short, but doesn't use the filler most games (mainly FPS) do to pad out the length. Story is a little wacky, but it's a computer game I'm not expecting something believable. Lot's of variety in the environments and situations.

Multiplayer is of course brilliant, when working ;) Lot's of depth, plenty of options and unlocks there for you. Great gamemodes, my favourite headquarters, has been slightly changed, for the better which is great.

Spec-Ops is how I like to see co-op tackled, I prefer the single player to be just that, single, and catered to the player, not built to suit 2 or more. Lot's of different types of mission to play with here, lot's of time needed to complete them all.

I just love FPS games and this is one of the finest playing shooter games out there, much like its predecessor (obviously, they are very alike). I personally think if you like shooting games (FPS) and/or your a fan of online multiplayer and your willing to leave the politics at the door, you'll be more than happy with your purchase.

I didnt really like the SP in COD 4 much and have found this one a little more interesting so far. I really like the multiplayer thats why I will buy it eventually.

I love FPS of all kind on any platforms and this game is a great fit for 360/ps3. I would have considered getting some extra ram and playing on PC with my CS clan but there are no dedicated servers. Eventually my real life friends who have 360 will get it and it is a great game to play with a good team.

Almost all the flaws people said they didn't want in this game, was reviewed to have the very same flaws in the game. How could you play the game if everything they told you has made you opt not to buy it. And still if they specify "it's a rent", that to is "not allowed", you must purchase teh game!

How is it not their right to do what they please with their money! There are 25 PS3 owners above who purchased the game, so clearly the line is not drawn at console ownership. The only difference is, this is nowhere near the best title released for PS3 this year, while the 360 has nothing anywhere near as good as this except maybe Forza 3, depending on your genre choices!

I have not bashed MW2 in anyway and I think it's a decent game, but the whole you are not allowed to express your opinion in a "forum"(keyword) on gaming is really pissing me off!

Review scores have been very favorable for this game. Graphics have been rated 10/10 by reviewers. Its online multiplayer will surpass Halo 3 and COD 4. Its console FPS gameplay has been rated top notch.

I love how 56% of these astronomical 1st week sales are for the 360. Remember that silly article that pretended there was supposedly going to be some mass Xbox 360 migration to the PS3 version of this game. These numbers obvioulsy don't back up that claim. I looked on my friends list last night and there was a SEA of MW2 boxes next to every avatar. (Xbox fans know what I'm talking about)

Don't listen to the hate. The main campaign pulled no puches, shoots for the stars, is the perfect length, and has solidified this game as the king of the shooters. This is all without me trying out the Special Ops.

The multiplayers is just Call of Duty perfection. (at least the 360 version is). The addiction to leveling and unlocking rivals RPGish type addiction. I love the way you can easily see your stats in comparison to everyone on your friends list. Renting Modern Warfare 2 would be useless, if you want to experience the best of what it offers.

I can't wait to see what this game grosses out of the box. Because this is great news for all gaming, especially when these types of numbers make it to the mainstream media.

Comparing Uncharted 2 to Modern Warfare 2 is useless. They both offer two completely different experiences.

Uncharted 2 is the reason games like 'Tomb Raider' and 'Prince of Persia' need to be developed by Naughty Dog or forever hide in shame. Uncharted 2 had the spectacular set pieces, the blockbuster movie action sequences, and the incredible voice-over work. It's single will stand the test of time.

But, that's where the honeymoon ends. Where Uncharted 2 is ultimately about treasure hunting, climbing, jumping,leaping, and solving puzzle after puzzle to make another room open; Modern Warfare 2 is about fighing Wars.

Although, Modern warfare can also be over-the-top as Uncharted 2, it's a game and a series, grounded in the harsh realities of combat. The detractors can blow wind and pretend this game is simply another shooter, but 7 million people say it's so much more.

The repetitive enemies and shooting sequences of the original Uncharted were improved for the sequel. The multiplayer is an ok addition too the game itself, borrowing and giving a nod to almost every popular shooter that has come before it. But, it's not even close to Call of Duty level. Infinity Ward created the deepest FPS multiplayer in the game. Two years after people still play COD 4 strong, Uncharted 2's replay value does not even hold a candle to this series in that regard.

Imitation is flattery, but the consumer knows what's authentic. 7 Million people just expressed the need to experience what this series continues to offer, and Infinity Ward gave it to them in spades. Everyone has a preference, but first person shooters are the most popular gaming genre of this generation. Modern Warfare 2 just unseated everyone at the table.

Just got done playin MW2 Online on the 360.
To be honest Im not that impressed by anything.
I actually still think COD4 is better. The maps were just more fun and varied in the layouts. It feels like they just added a few little details to everything and thats it, rating just the multiplayer I would give this game 8.5.
I dont think it deserves GOTY, Uncharted is better in every way.

Well I already bought it online just waiting for it to reach me. To be honest I enjoyed the first one's single player a lot and look forward to the 'experience' of this second installment.

One issue I am a bit worried about is the excitement in the firefights being lost after the tension that exists in Killzone 2. That game had the most intense firefights I've ever had in a videogame to date. So much so that when i went to play COD MW 1 again, it felt a bit bland during the firefights.

It just goes to show that a multiplat game can be as good and even better than an exclusive, making the "who has more exclusives" argument mute.

MW2 plays better than KZ2 and has better (not cell shaded) graphics than uncharted. And teh majority of FPS fans confirm that by buying it !!!

Once again we xbots need to hide behind a multiplat to shadow our embarrassing exclusive line-up throughout the year.. We got only halve balls to compete multi to PS3 exclusives, but not exclusives to exclusives comparison, or else we get pwned from left to right up to down. Hilariously, Sales is the only thing we get to talk about, saying we get to play the best game, we just pwned ourselves.

Beat the single-player in NO TIME. It really shouldn't even be there if you ask me. The game is getting top scores, but that's only because of the Multi-player which is top-notch. If you compare the single-player to great FPS titles such as HL/HL2, Bioshock, or Portal it really doesn't even come close.

Multi-player on the other hand is AMAZING. Even without Dedicated servers I'm really having a blast. I've only experienced lag a couple of times, and even then it was only for a second or 2. You can invite friends to play w/ you which is nice, and overall I'm satisfied (though I do feel quite jipped price-wise.

People shouting "generic shooter" don't know what they are talking about. Yes it's set as a sort of present day military shooter, but that's not what makes it great. It's nice not having to shoot someone 50 times to kill them. The perks/customization is great! The map design is really nice. It really has everything!

My only gripe is the single-player and the price. For MW3 they need to totally scrap the minor single-player component, focus on an even more robust Multi-player, and drop the price to $30 MAYBE $40 (it's that good)

Sales are not dictated by quality, neither are they derivative , or indicative of quality; don't think these numbers fool anybody with half a brain.

Fun game, but this game sets no kind of "standard" for anything, just a good model to go by if you want mega sales at a minimum of production cost.

Even though they sold 7 million. I still give Uncharted 2 game of the year. I am curious to see how this is going to go down. If Modern Warfare 2 gets game of the year because of sales then that will be just sad. Great game but not game of the year.

from a PC users point of view! this game is utter crap!, I already completed it within 4 hrs last night!! I cant/wont be playing online like I have with every other COd title!, my clan cant play it etc! no dedicated servers blah blah!. so ive already listed and sold it on ebay!. The game feels completely different to previous titles in that its been dumbed down for consoles, made for consoles and then ported badly to PC!! you cant even f**in Lean!!> wots that all about!!. Its 1 day arcade rubbish! no way near the quality of cod4, even teyarchs Cod5 is better!. looking forward to battlefieldBC2, after many many a year on cod titles , thats it for me. FU Activision/IW

We thought the lack of dedicated servers was bad, but now we can add the lack of console commands, the inability to have a say in who hosts the game, a lengthy pause while the game migrates to a new host if the currently selected host quits, no leaning, no option to record matches, and no way to kick or block trouble players, hackers, or cheaters.

You have to wonder if there are any actual PC gamers working at Infinity Ward, as it will be a challenge to find any member of the PC gaming community that will stand up for any of these omissions, not to mention all of them bundled together. At launch, this will be one of the most locked-down, inflexible, and gamer-unfriendly game ever created.

Why are so many people getting b*tt hurt over Vgchartz estimated sales numbers? Yes, yes we know that NPD's are more official but VGChartz usually is in the ball park from what I have seen. So...MW2 sold a boat load. I think we all knew this...congrats to IW.

Also, why are fanboys so concerned over what other formats numbers were? Just be happy you got a copy you can play.

Me? I love the game so far. Guess what? It was my $60, and I spent it how I wanted to. And you know what? In my opinion, it was 60 bucks well spent.

Don't like it? Tough. Don't buy it. But don't come on here telling me I spent my money wrong. I'm having a blast, while you're on N4G complaining about strangers buying a game.

I'm gonna keep having hours of fun playing this, and next week, I'll be digging into the God of War collection. I'm just loving all of these great games coming out right now...
