Borderlands Co-op Broken on PS3

Day one purchasers of Borderlands on PS3 were faced with an unpleasant surprise on Tuesday: the game's co-op mode is completely borked.

this game is core coop play fun. for them not to get this right makes no sense why the would make a ps3 version in the first place.? as it will do them more hurt than good.

I bought it for the 360, but I also want to get it on my PS3 so I can play with a few friends that only own a PS3. Hopefully this is fixed by the time I pick it up on the PS3.

Sadly. Me and my two roomies all got the game, we couldnt even get a LAN game going at first-- one roomie could see us we could not see him on our friends listing in game. My game appeared to freeze up once when i was attempting to access the online listings of games.

Hope they fix it soon-- if you like leveling, loot, adventure, its a fun fun game, reminds me kinda of a mix between Fallout 3 and WoW and Resistance 2.

-edit for updates i would go to the borderlands technical forums-- last night they were saying they were "looking into it" and maybe now they have figured it out. Lots of PO'ed players, as you can imagine. I was mostly dissapointed, its hard to get that upset with Demons Souls and UC2 on deck.

The problem was enough for GameSpot to give the PS3 version an 8.0 while the 360 got an 8.5. Time to compare Metacritic scores! (hopefully they'll fix it before the weekend).

You really think they are not doing their jobs? Almost every piece of complicated software needs updates after being released. Labs constantly need to be updated to match the real world, but usually this is not known to be needed until after a real world problem is uncovered. It is the nature of the technology business.

I knew this would happen when Killzone 2 omitted co-op through the campaign, same with Infinity Ward, the graphics would suffer if they did have co-op through the campaign. All I received was ton of hate, now you have proof.

I'm not talking about co-op side missions to trick the public, Liars like Infinity Ward saying: "adding co-op through the campaign would compromise the single player story"? *******T! Infinity Ward no one knows the characters in your friggin story from MW1, so stfu!

No campaign co-op is an excuse to hide the fact that operating with un-unified RAM on the PS3 is a friggin problem: Say it Developers!

You dont see Halo 3 with that problem, the RAM is unified, a dev needs to create multiple scenarios for each co-op character, that's a problem for SONY's PS3!

Im not having any problems with the psn at all. Ive been playing online w/ uncharted 2 and having a smooth experience...only when I put in Borderlands I had a problem.

eh? there's nothing wrong with the PSN or the buddylist.
It might be lacking a few features like Cross game chat and invites, and a bit of spit and polish to make it look better, but it's not broken in any way at all.

I've never had any problems with it and I use it regularly. It's actually a pretty reliable service.

Shame about Borderlands co-op getting messed-up though, I was looking forward to getting it friday and now I won't be bothering, no point in getting a game based around co-op if they can't even get that right!

Yep, a game that was built around co-op does not work on the ps3 version. I bought it last night and it freezes every time you get to the public lobby.
I played the single player but it feels rather lonely in the world cuz it really wasnt meant to be played that way.

Im really starting to lose respect for 2k period. I heard the online for nba2k10 was broken and now the next 2k game borderlands(ps3) is completely broken.

After playing Borderlands last night on my PS3 ( with some mild online trouble ) for 8 hours, I believe I can answer your question. Bayonetta. The guns are awesome... and that's about it. Too sparse, too bland and a little on the tedious side. Dammit.

it's already fixed for me and others I've talked to. just a server issue thats why 360 wasn't affected. plus you could still play online just the friends list didn't work the first day. boo hoo quit hating Gearbox when they fix it in a day

COD4 might not of had dedicated servers on the consoles but at least it wasn't a sh!t port like most multi platform PS3 games out there. It was a quality game on ALL platforms. That's why I like Infinity Ward.

the game is just your typical snipe bots from a safe distance rinse/repeat shooter.

I'll stick to UC2 online, MAG beta, Socom:C, MGO, OFP and the challenge from my fellow gamers, not bots.

Doesn't bring anything new to the genre ? It managed to somehow combine Fallouts universe, with Diablos loot, added sweet co-op and shooting and to top it all off a deep rpg skill set.

This is truly the first game that really combines an RPG with a FPS.

As a fellow gamer, I hope you will try to play the game when the patch rolls out. I'm fortunate to have the 360 Version and played it with 4p just last night: leveled up to 15 and enjoyed every bit of it. It would be a shame you're dissuaded by something that can be fixed it days. I don't condone releasing partially-broken games, but Borderlands is a game that's so good that it deserves some of your patience until the patch rolls out and you can then fully experience what I did.

This is one of those games you can come back to months after the holiday season and still have fun.

Lucky thing I made the right choice of buying the 360 version. For those people that say the PSN is better than live are in denial. It's not even a close one folks, sorry to break it to you. Borderlands is a 4 player co op game where your progress can go to single player and to proceed with missions you have to be on the same part with you friend.

I can only imagine the headache that would be on the PsN. Luck to you guys hope you get a patch soon.

Invite to game is a function built in to the PS3 version of this game. It's the press of a button as well.

The issue is that it doesn't pull up your actual friends list.. just a subset for some people and an old version for others.

PS3 version. Public lobby would populate, then lock. Couldnt scroll or select games. Refreshed once, locked the entire system. Had to do a physical shutdown and reboot.

And to those crying about not testing properly and the devs not doing their jobs.. there are things that just dont happen in the test environment of a couple dozen people, that DO manifest once 10's of thousands begin hammering the same functions. This was gutting last night when I tried to play.It's not a bad port though.I've played both,they are identical.hopefully be sorted soon.I love the suggestion by 360 fans it's the rubbish PSN.So Halo3 worked well day one did it?and how about Gears 2,that had massive problems too.Live is the only service that didn't work for 2 weeks over xmas one year too.In fact it was so bad(at a time of year everyone wants to play)MS had to give away free XBLA games to compensate people.All networks have issues,most PSN games run well and at larger player counts too.

I just played it a min ago its not broken. The start up to view the list of players takes about 2 mins to load then you can pick which game you wanna join, it isn't that bad just have to wait. In game it does get a bit laggy at times but i think its still fun. I have to say this game is fun, better then fallout 3 imo. Played with my friends and then two other people. The co-op does work and no need for alarm, but i think they will fix any issues that come up very soon. Overall co-op experience B grade could be better.

Can't blame the devs. It is not uncommon that PS3 versions tend to run into problems a lot more than 360 versions. If I were logical, I'd say it is a console problem based on the empirical evidence.
