Modern Warfare 2 PC will have no dedicated servers or mods.

Community manager fourzerotwo has dropped a bombshell on the PC community as he confirmed there will be NO dedicated servers, no mods, no server lists and matchmaking only for the PC version on Modern Warfare 2, a first for the Call of Duty series, a series known for its large modding community and high number of dedicated servers.

Uhh, we're not asking for special treatment. We're asking for the same treatment we've received for over a decade, long before online multiplayer was even thought of on a console. There are inherent advantages to playing a multiplayer game on a PC, and one of those advantages is to have a computer that runs all of the game's assets as a dedicated server. Suddenly not having this ability, and being forced to use the same archaic system for finding a multiplayer game that console users for some reason seem fine with is not my idea of a step forward. I believe this is an attempt to make an excuse to make this game console exclusive. Next time around with MW 3 they will likely have an excuse to leave it's sequel off the PS3 as well. I hope PS4 does have Keyboard & Mouse fully functioning as well f789790. It will be awesome if PS4 has New open OS and room for some free SDKs of some games to float around so that gamers can have options to mod and play PS4 games like that. I can't wait til 2011 to see what is expected from next generation. Likely Next-generation will be first with voice recognition being thrown into games as well. People on CoD4 could run their OWN dedicated servers. Then you could choose them from a list.

Now MW2 just has a button that says "play". How fvcking sh1t is that? Before I was able to scroll down the list of servers, sort them, look at my ping etc, be able to play huge battles thanks to people's dedicated servers, and now all I can do is "play" using sh1tty peer-to-peer on someone's sh1t connection. If everyone's like me when they're playing, they don't have the bandwidth to host. So it will be laggy as fvck, not to mention the inevitable host advantage.

One the worst things invented this generation has been Matchmaking. There is no game good enough to make Matchmaking and Party systems worthwhile. This is incredibly true with PC gaming, nothing beats joining your favorite server, open 24 hours a day, hosted by a friend, clan member, or yourself.

I hate Steam, its one of the reasons I can't stand Valve anymore, squeezing cash from every and all angles. I'd rather have games with their own user hosted and dedicated servers, and XFire support to boot.

Paid DLC has never worked on PC. We're not used go forking out tens of dollars on a game post release like you guys are accustomed to. The DLC will get heavily pirated, much like the Fallout 3 DLC was. It's not hard to add a couple new maps to your game folder.

MW2 will be using VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) which is probably the most secure anti-cheat method to date. If you're caught cheating, you pretty much lose your Steam account, or any chance of playing online. You have to re-buy all of your games too, which of some people is hundreds of dollars worth.

If this is true, the game is definitely not worth the retail price, considering we are paying close to double compared to other pc titles...

Mods play HUGE roles in the competitive scene which has kept cod for alive.
Removing dedicated servers will make this game as big a waste of money as cod waw.

COD series's core value is on-line match. Without dedicated server means no community behind. Lots of clans rent/own their server and website. Without dedicate dserver means no one will support this game. Activision is destroying their COD series, again, very stupid.

I think 402 only realised just how much of a big deal this is when he paused during the broadcast to read the chat log - no doubt an endless parade of WTFs.

I'm sticking with MW1 and then moving on to whatever other FPS comes along to replace it - unless the MW2 maps get ported back to MW by the community, and I think they will if it's feasible.

How is this going to work when the game needs:

A) Steam authentication
B) Is using VAC
C) Requires to be signed into IW.net with an account and individual product key

Knowing Activision, it's also pretty likely that there is no LAN support in the game. Meaning, pirates won't be able to do **** with the multiplayer.

I will not be purchasing MW2 for any platform, and I own PS3, 360, and a Gaming PC. It is simply ridiculous that a series this financially successful wants to give LESS for more money. Apparently the reward for my customer loyalty is an inferior product. What a slap in the face. I've always been gaming on consoles and PC all my life. Still, I have never touched a Call of Duty game on consoles, and refuse to. I always had them on my PC. This decision for servers limits user generated content on PC, this is exactly like Xbox 360 and DLC, you don't get to chose what servers you want or content you want.
