UC1 did 32k in the US the first week. This means minimum 10 times as good a result with UC2.

UC1 did 85k in Europe the first week. With the same ratio it will hit 850k.

So day one results in the US and Japan = Fantastic.
I personally think this will be the game with the longest legs on PS3 ever. 99% how buy this will tell their friends to get it for the fantastic online play.

360 fans do tend to rush out and buy their big exclusives right at launch. Just look at Gears 2, Halo ODST, Fable II, etc...etc..for evidence of that. I've read analysts speculate that, long term, this isn't a healthy trend. It indicates that the 360 caters almost exclusively to the "hardcore" gamers and that it's not a recipe for long term success. "Hardcore" gamers tend to buy the hot new thing on day one.

We also see evidence of this in the types of games that are picked up on the 360. While the titles that appeal to the hardcore do well, most other titles are ignored by 360 fans (take Banjo: Nuts and Bolts for example). It'll be interesting to see if the 360 can broaden it's market next year with Natal's appeal to the casual gamer market.

Where are these so-called "facts" that 360 owners tend to just run out and buy a game day one and not over the long-haul? MGS4 sold 1.3 million units on day 1, and currently has sold 4.26. Comparably, that same year Gears2 sold 2.1 million day one, and currently has sold 5.26 million. How are those two games not comparable? Both were considered the "big-gun" for their respective systems that year. It's funny that if this were a big 360 game, all the PS fans would call 300,000 a fail. Instead, we get to hear excuses that 360 fans all pile in day one, but PS3 fans are "patient". Since when are most of us patient for games that everyone is ranting and raving over? No one wants to hear that this is only 15% of what Halo ODST sold day one. Not bad for a so-called "add-on" that hasn't been played by most people criticizing it.

Don't turn this into a PS3 vs. 360 issue guys.

I'd say the slower pick-up has more to do with UC2 being a more campaign-focused game than those 360 games you guys mentioned.

ODST and Gears 2 were sequels to games that had an active online audience when they launched. When people are still playing these games online, they tend to be more proactive about getting the "upgrade" when it comes out. A similar thing happens when MMORPGs (namely WoW) release expansions; people run out to get it on day 1 because it directly affects how they play their "primary game".

UC1, on the other hand, didn't have online. So, like a handful of people have already stated on this page, people are willing to take their time and wait till they're ready to play.

That said, if when Modern Warfare 2 comes out, the PS3 version still shows a drastically lower 1st-day performance, THEN we can fairly blame that disparity on the PS3 users. But until then, don't turn this into a PS3 vs 360 issue.

For my part, the multiplayer is ok, but the single player is why I (and most others, I'd assume) bought the game and what I play it for. The MP is pretty good but it's not the selling point.

I actually have some gripes with the MP mode. For starters, sometimes it feels almost "scripted"...I can clearly punch someone first, but if they get their initial blow in soon enough, the game will let them get their second punch in at the same time as mine and the game will ALWAYS end up handing out a double-kill. On a related note, you can kill someone with 2 punches, yet can unload 10 AK-47 rounds to someone's back only to watch them calmy turn around and drop a grenade at your feet, which you cannot avoid because it has a 1 second fuse upon landing. The climbing aspects still make it fun, but the weapon/melee hit aspects need some serious tuning. It feels as if it's a bit laggy (and I have a pretty awesome internet connection).

I doubt it will kick Call of Duty from the top of the hill on multiplayer front. It's a single player experience first and foremost, and they hit a grand slam from that perspective.

Halo ODST can sell 2.5 million because 360 blockbusters are far and few between this year whereas Demon Souls just came out a few weeks ago and now UC2 is out.

The PS3 won't get too many "million on day one" sales because back in the begining, the PS3 had their AAA titles from new franchises; now, the PS3 has AAA games over AAA games coming out in short order. Not everyone will drop everything to get the next big thing because they're either playing or planning to get one or the other instead of having the time to save up because the next AAA title is three to four months out.

the VGchartz numbers are off (pre-order numbers were already at 300k on 11 oct), add in the other regions sales and i expect this game to pull 1.2k week 1, then go on to have a strong week 2 sales of around 300-400k worldwide.
I guess i'm just being realistic here but selling over 1 mil week one is a success for any franchise, especially a NEW IP for this gen.

I myself still haven't gotten UC2 yet (plan on buying a HDTV and finish Demon's Souls first) but will in a few weeks to add to those numbers.

I am a big Uncharted fan. I haven't finished it yet but it definatly exceeded all my expectations and the 97 meta score is more than justified.

However sofar compared to MGS4. MGS4 is still the better game to me personally.

Uncharted is a great action adventure game to me but MGS4 is more than just a game and i doubt it can ever be surpassed until the last Gaurdian arrives. MGS4 is that epic dama/action game with a much more complex storyline that i apperciate more. Thats just me. MGS4 is a pioneer game in gaming history. Only after a few years will people realise how far ahead it is of its time.

Uncharted 2 is like 10 times better than the first 1, better yet 20 times. However, comparing Uncharted 2 to MGS4 is crazy. Both are 2 different games, different genres and each has different pace when it comes to gameplay. One is stealth oriented the other is action oriented. One thing for sure, Uncharted 2 is not ORIGINAL, in other words it didn't bring anything new to gaming or something we didn't experience before but still Naughty Dog managed to give us one hell of a game and one of my favourite series this gen. but still far from reaching the overall quality that Kojima gave us back in 2008. Uncharted 2 gameplay is limited comparing to the endless things you can do in MGS4. Not to mention the camera system. The variety of weapons in MGS4 destroys uncharted 2 and any other 3rd person game released. Not just the variety, but the details put into the weapons models in MGS4 are just astonishing. Uncharted 2 has amazing weapons models but there are like 2 really good assault rifles and 1 good pistol and that's about it. In MGS4, there are 70 weapons. Uncharted storyline is good but primitive and predictable, Metal Gear story is well you know. The presentation and cinematics in Uncharted 2 are movie-like and the graphics are just crazy. In MGS4, it's all about the cutscenes so again you know. :P Most of the characters in Uncharted are a bit boring and don't leave an impact on the player except for Drake, who by the way is my second favourite character in gaming after Snake. Almost every character in the Metal Gear franchise leave an impact on the player and we do actually care about them and what might happen to them(protagonists and antagonists), I can name a few, Snake, Big Boss, Liquid, Ocelot, Otacon, Campbell, Meryl, Psycho Mantis, The End, The Boss, The Sorrow. We experienced Psycho Mantis boss fight for like what? 15 mins??? only 15 mins out of the whole Metal Gear franchise and we only see him in MGS1 and his story isn't deep or related to the Metal Gear franchise but guess what? Psycho Mantis managed to ENGRAVE in every Metal Gear fan's heart an experience that they will never forget. You don't see that in Uncharted and most of games. Dude you just can't come here and say this is better than this without taking in consideration the history and what impact the game did to the gaming industry. Uncharted 1 was great and Uncharted 2 is absolutely AMAZING and it's a 10 in my book but PLEASE Metal Gear is on another level of awesomness.

Uncharted 2 is a completely new story and can definitely be enjoyed without playing the first, however there are several little "inside" jokes if you will that you will enjoy a little more if you have experienced the first one.

These figures are to be expected. Sony did a good job in actually marketing their game(banners everywhere at IGN from time to time).

I kind of have to agree with the guy on the age thing. Kids have a lot more time to spend on playing games than adults. loving it. And I am telling friends to GET it! One thing I did notice is that Sony is much better at marketing this game. The first one didn't get as much advertising but I picked it up anyway (after playing the demo) and I loved it. I had a friend call me yesterday asking if he should get it (he plays mainly sports games) but he was interested after seeing some of the ads on tv about it. Of course I told him buy it.

This game produces some jaw dropping moments with the graphics. Some of the set pieces are just simply outstanding.
It deserves the acclaim it has been receiving so far...
