I mean, I couldn't care less, but I'm guessing it's true or SOMEHOW they put PS3 in there by mistake.

SnuggleBandit5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

that's f-in crazy if its true

EDIT: Actually maybe its not that crazy since it is EA. However, Microsoft doesn't lose too many exclusives. Usually they just throw the checkbook at all of their problems

AridSpider5416d ago

EA is a distributor and partner of the game but if so that means they are the ones making it....The Orange Box PS3 anyone?

The_Count5416d ago

Almost as interesting as counting.

Ah ah ah.

Blaze9295416d ago

well if so than great...but is it necessarily a good thing? Like AridSpider said...The Orange Box PS3 anyone? I can't imagine how a game could be expected to be the same with such two different developers. If Valve updates the Xbox 360/PC with content that could possibly be free like the survival pack....here's EA with possibly not doing it or charging a fee.

Buttons5416d ago

I'm guessing it's true or SOMEHOW they put PS3 in there by mistake.

Uh, what other possibilities are there?

Jaces5416d ago

If its so....then I'll just buy it used. ;D lol

EA distribute Valve's games. My Orange Box on 360 has a faint EA logo on the green case.

DasBunker5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

if this is true prepare to hear the fanboys say how L4D2 is just a ripoff and that it will suck now.. lol

sonarus5416d ago

probably a mistake. E3 isn't even a month old when they told us it was exclusive

really duh5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

Because valve made the decision for a PS3 version and gave the green light for EA to develope it because they showed interest in taking on the project. They were also suppose to do Left 4 Dead. What they did with Orange Box doesn't mean there is some sort of contract with all games in the future.

The devs never talked about a decision to do the 360 and PC versions and then let EA port L4D 2 to the PS3. They said its exclusive to Microsoft's platforms for the last 3 weeks.

Here is the old L4D(the first one) rumor

" Speaking to 1up, Newell stated, "For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They're interested in getting a PS3 version done [of Left 4 Dead]. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from. We don't have the bandwidth. We're doing the 360 and PC version ourselves."

The reply to (the First) L4d

"There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production," was Lombardi's comment on the rumor. Sometimes I think rumor-mongers make stuff up and just hope some of their ideas stick. Hmm ... now that's an idea ..."

This L4D 2(Left 4 Dead 2) info is either a typo or very a shaddy way of dealing with this game. Why would the devs lie about this during E3 and the 3 weeks after the show not announcing it for PS3 when they own the IP?

YOU CAN GOOGLE THE QUOTES THERE WILL MOST LIKELY BE 4 OR 5 RELATED ARTICLES/SOURCES.

Carl14125416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

@Sonarus FF14 was a day old when MS started flinging cash :p

But still, can't say i give a damn. It doesn't interest me. And is probably a mistake anyway

HQLocated1115416d ago

It's a typo! With 5 months or so until release, I think they would've shown it running on PS3 at E3. Unless it's another late port.

RememberThe3575416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

This could still just be some kind of input error and we'll see it fixed in a bit. That or EA decided that they would port this version to the PS3.

I'm not buying it either though. Why would they update their website without making an official announcement?

na2ru15416d ago

And realised the problem isn't as bad as people made it out to be. I mean HDD install size now where near as Lost Planet 1 and textures are uncomparable to the Ghost Busters dilemma.

ShabzS5416d ago

i cant see why it cant come to ps3..

FrankenLife5416d ago

This is most likely a typo.

However it isn't too far fetched. EA did the Orange Box when they were new to the system and didn't understand the RAM allocations along with the structure of the cell, so it was a bad port. EA obviously has gained lots of experience with the console since, and could now put together a good port. The first statement about L4D coming to the PS3 was based on resources. They would have had to independently invest in production of a title that they weren't sure of. Now they have a proven market, the investment is sure to see a return. When Valve said that they are making it just for the 360 and PC, they were telling the truth. If the PS3 version gets made, then it sure won't be Valve making it.

Anon19745416d ago

I picked up The Orange Box for the PS3 and, if you believed the forums, the game was unplayable. Truth is it was an excellent game, and my PS3 sure ran it a helluva lot tighter than my underpowered PC could have. This was a fantastic game. No wonder the PS3 version still managed a metacritic score of 89.

And since then EA has proven time and time again they've got a handle on the PS3. Look no further than Dead Space for proof of that.

I hope Left 4 Dead is coming to the PS3. I don't use XBL (no point paying for what's free, in my opinion) and my PC wouldn't really handle it. Bring L4D2 to the PS3 and EA's got a sale right here, that's for sure.

DasBunker5416d ago

why would EA show this then?:

http://scrawlfx.com/2009/06...

maybe they got scared with the boycott and decided to port it to lose less money lmao

TheBand1t5416d ago

I don't see why not. I mean, more gamers get to enjoy a good game, right?

" VideoGamer.com: We’re a multiplatform website. Was there ever any thought about doing a PS3 version? Did it even cross anyone’s mind?

CF: If it crossed someone’s mind it wasn’t the focus. The focus was 360 and PC. A) it’s what we develop on. B) it’s the platform we think lends itself to the interaction of our game the best. Microsoft didn’t know about L4D at first. Then they saw it last year and they just started coming to our offices to play. I think it had little to do with actual work, they just wanted to play. And actually we had had them out to come take a look at L4D2 before the announcement and everything. Talking with those guys, their marketing guys, they’re like, oh we play every Friday. And they do. They’re hardcore players. They all knew how to play. I didn’t have to give them any instruction. I thought we’d have to put it on easy for you guys. Let me tell you, you guys are good. This is a really good relationship and they’re really supportive, they’ve been really helpful, super great. I know they’re supposed to be big, bad and evil but that’s not the side we see of them.

VideoGamer.com: Do you think L4D will ever come to a PlayStation console?

CF: Right now it’s PC and 360. That’s definitely what we’re going to do. It’s just the platform that lends itself to it. And Xbox LIVE just makes it an easy thing to do. If you think about it, ten years ago we could have made L4D, but you wouldn’t have been able to hook up to your friends and it just wouldn’t have gained online as it did. And it’s really because of Steam and Xbox LIVE that we can make L4D."

Lifendz5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

HOWEVER, if they put L4D 1 on the disc (it's a blu-ray and both games were made for DVD9), then I might pick it up. Makes sense for EA to attempt to get as much off of their IP as possible. It'd be nice to have Valve on the game though but I guess they're taking a stance against Sony for "hiding the power" as many people put it. Whatever. Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Modern Warfare 2, God of War III, Fat Princess, etc, etc. Too many games to get upset about not getting what has always been thought to be a 360 exclusive.

BTW, I'll be getting a gaming PC in the next month or two. The days of sweating any 360 exclusive will be over then.

JL5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

I could care less about this game even if it was coming to PS3.

Now that being said, let me point something out for all you flip-floppers and sh*t-talkers. I don't know if anyone has noticed this or not, but check the EA site again. L4D2 now only has Xbox360, PC, and PC Download as available platforms. On the upcoming PS3 games it's also been removed. Can't find a single mention of L4D2 on PS3 anywhere on there. I'd say that all but confirms just a typo or error of some sort. Let's put this one to rest now guys.

Edit: LOL what's the disagree for? What, you think I lied and I really do care about this game? lol Or is it that you disagree that it isn't listed for PS3 anymore? No really, go look, no more mention of L4D2 on PS3, I promise. Nowhere that I could find. And if you can find it, by all means, don't just disagree but rather show me where. lol idiots I tell you.

Joking aside, I'm waiting for the morons that disagree to start pouring in saying "Oh no, this doesn't confirm a typo. This confirms that it's REAL!!!!!! It's coming to PS3, they just had to take it down because it wasn't supposed to be announced yet for PS3" lol. People sometimes.

TheBand1t5416d ago

So you're just cementing the fact you're an overly sensitive fanbaby.

Understandable why you're so defensive though, seeing as how for the longest time you defended Lost Planet 2 exclusitivity, then timed exclusitivity, then being smacked in the jaw by Capcom when they announced all versions will have the same release date.

in a sense though, I guess this could be compared to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. You know, can only get the "true sequel" made by Valve on the PC and Xbox 360...the EA version is...the "other team".

SuperM5416d ago

Well im sure if EA were to make a port of the game they have conciderably more knowledge about the PS3 now then they had back then.

Blaze9295416d ago

still...who better to do a Valve game...than VALVE?

Mindboggle5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

I wouldnt worry. EA are not like they used to be and have now proven themselved to be the best in the industry at making identical PS3 and 360 games. Look at Fifa, Madden, Fight night, Dead Space etc etc

Orange box was in the early days and I think theyve learnt their lesson.

Anyway this is probably a typo, so who cares !

morganfell5416d ago

When Randy Pitchford was just a modder he proved he could do Valve better than Valve.

ShabzS5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

i dont think ea's experiece from fight night or any other non valve title would help them too much here with a l4d port... we are talking about the source engine here ... a pc engine from 2004 and designed around the pc architecture fortunately for the 360 ... the question is weather they have learned enough ABOUT THE SOURCE ENGINE from their orangebox port...

Statix5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

While it may be true to some extent that some level of expertise in coding for the Source engine is a factor, I would say that it's an even bigger factor that EA knows how to properly code for the PS3 and its Cell processor. Because a huge part of how the Source engine will ultimately perform on the PS3 is dependent on how well EA takes the Source engine and refits it, optimizes it, specifically for the PS3 architecture. Think of the Source engine as basically any other middleware engine (CryEngine, Unreal Engine) that starts off as a very general-purpose PC developmental platform, which then eventually gets optimized/appropriated specifically targeting various other console platforms.

As is the case with any previous PC-to-console port in history, the biggest question at hand is always how well the developer can optimize for a particular console to get the best possible performance out of it.

SevWolf5416d ago

@Statix ..yup completely correct dude, I think when ppl are saying "ea is used to the PS3" they mean that the developers would probably know how to recode the engine and optimize it, hopefully, if this is true, they'll do it right, then I'll see if i'll be playin this on my 360 or ps3, hope both versions are equally awesome

Sarcasm5416d ago

I think EA has come a long way from their old PS3 days. Now they're actually getting a lot of their games running equal on PS3 and 360. See Fight Night Round 4 and Madden '09.

ShabzS5416d ago

yah i think you might be right ... source is still a middle ware engine

Now that is interesting. I wonder if it's a mistake after MS debuted it as an exclusive and if not why's it going on the PS3?

Financial incentive?

Statix5416d ago

It's always possible that plans change, and what was once exclusive two weeks ago.... There's no guarantee that EA would have necessarily informed Microsoft of their intention to port the game either.

PirateThom5416d ago (Edited 5416d ago )

Hmm... I'll approve this, because it is EAs site, but, I dunno... it's on the list of PS3 games, the L4D2 page and the search page ( http://www.ea.com/search?ke... ), but it could easily be a mistake.

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead33d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit33d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer33d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit33d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218333d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer33d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218333d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper33d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal33d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood33d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218333d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde33d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Valve Made Left 4 Dead 2 Because The First Game Was A Broken Mess

Left 4 Dead lead Chet Faliszek describes the original Left 4 Dead game as "such a broken thing that nobody wanted to touch it."

Number1TailzFan145d ago

And then couldn't be arsed to make a third game.

If they can add a lot more stuff to a 2nd game in just 1 year why didn't they make a third game a few years later with tons of stuff extra? Because that shows they could've.

I know Source 2 was kind of broken and was a reason they cancelled L4D3 but it seems wasteful to just toss it away.

Don't know what Valve were thinking.. it's like nobody wanted to fix the issues to get going. They certainly aren't the Valve of 2004 that released fun games with pretty cutting edge graphics.

cthulhucultist143d ago

Valve is allergic to number 3 it seems. It would be easier for them to release a Left 4 Dead 2.5 enhanced version instead of releasing a game with "3" slapped on its title.

rakentaja143d ago

They stopped making games a long time ago. Steam brings in so much money that it's really not worth the effort. Nowadays, people only look for faults in games, and spend more time whining on Twitter/X than playing the game anyway. Valve says a big fat no-no.

anast143d ago

Value is the Blockbuster of video games. They have no need to invest in deving a game, when they can make handfuls of cash renting them.

-Foxtrot145d ago

What are they talking about? Seemed pretty alright to me at launch it just wasn't supported the way Valve promised us

They should have just worked on a revamp / massive update to the game but they didn't they jumped straight to a sequel with brand new characters despite having some sort, if small, story about where the original survivors were heading.

I didn't care for the direction they took the sequel, the original games tone and atmosphere was missing in the second game and is still unmatched. Daytime levels, more whackiness, melee weapons where you could attack a Tank with a frying pan...just wasn't the same to be honest and the new survivors just didn't hold up the originals.

Here's my speculation. I think they did a sequel because they didn't want to update a game co-developed by Turtle Rock, they wanted the franchise to be known as a Valve game only and knew if they updated the first one Turtle Rocks name would still linger on it.

shaenoide143d ago

I want broken games like L4D all day long...
