Of that list, Sony owns RCA, BMG, Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures and Music. So sony could pull the rights for Van Halen (RCA), 1/2 of band Hero's tracks. Just about everything on DJ Hero, Spiderman could be pulled from Activision's UA2 game. They could forget about publishing another Hulk, Spiderman or James Bond game.

Wow, I didn't realize how crappy Activision was until I saw this list. None of them interest me at all except Modern Warfare 2 which doesn't even seem up to par with Killzone 2.

I am happy that Activision made this thread though and hopefully Sony drops the price soon. A price drop for the PS3 would really be great and I know tons of people who would buy a PS3 once they do.

No, in fact I think more publishers would offer better content. Ever heard of the concept, "If you leave, more for me!" That is exactly what Ubisoft did. When Acti, Capcom and Take-two pretty much dropped all support for the system, Ubi-soft started creating big franchises like Ravin Rabbids, Red Steel, Pets for DS, Imagine now they added TMNT liscened products and today 75% of the companies profit comes from Nintendo. EA would love for Sony gamers to have extra money to spend, No competition for Rockband (Boom goes the dynamite), Battlefield, Dead Space. EA would be the #1 3rd party publisher again if Activision drops.

Plus: Jack trenton said Sony expects to sell 13 million consoles by next year, which is a clear sign a price cut is immenent. So next year the PS3 base will be 33-36 million, and should grow by 8-10 million by 2011. That is an awefull lot of gamers to pull support from. Original Xbox- 24 million, Gamecube: 21 million, N64= 34 million, Dreamcast=10 milion. PS3=23 million after 2 1/2 years on market.

By 2011, PS3 will be the 5th best selling console in history!!

I know they are currently the largest 3rd party dev. but that's because they merged with Blizzard. largest=/=best! nuff said! the only big franchises they have that I can think of are CoD, GH and maybe TH. but this year's lineup from them is pretty much CRAP, except maybe MW2 which I'm sure will sell a crap load while looking exactly like CoD4! The last (and the only) activision's game I bought was CoD4 and even that, I'm skipping MW2 for sure already! The only big losses here would be the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero franchises. I think that the Killzone, Socom, M.A.G. and Resistance franchises would pull up the slack with proper marketing. Seriously, this is the lamest excuse of an idle threat I've ever heard. Activision can say they'll have to consider dropping the PS3 all they want, but they never will. The fact is, that list of games is sad. Most of Activisions games are mediocre, so no one will be terribly disappointed. Plus, in a fight between Sony (a multinational conglomerate that is also a house hold name) and Activision (maybe the largest 3rd party publisher, but puny in comparison to Sony) I'd bet on Sony any day. Hell, I'd bet on any of the big 3 against Activision any day.

The fact is, Sony is going for profit this gen. If they stand to LOSE profit by giving in to Activision and lowering the price of the PS3, then that's exactly what they will NOT do. And nothing Activision will do will change that.

It'd be dumb on Activisions part to not partner with Sony. Just means less cash for them. There's no way that porting the same game as the 360/PC version to the PS3 will give them less bank then what it cost to put it on there to begin with.

Considering the only game on that list that I am actually enticed to play is Singularity maybe they should focus on making better games. At the end of the day better franchises will sell themselves AND consoles. No one gives a rats a$$ about Guitar Hero 44. It's played out and anyone who still gets these new rehashes of these games is a dumb consumer.

Quite obviously, Activision stands to lose more than Sony if they were to follow through (essentially cutting their revenue by more than 30%, it seems. I do find these statements by Activision hilarious the more and more I read and think about them. Besides the obvious loss of sales/money, does anybody else realize the impact this would have on Activision? Let's take a moment and just imagine what would happen to their two biggest selling franchises. COD would obviously be cut in half and not be as much of a cash cow as it was multiplatform. And then you have Guitar Hero. I'm sorry, but dropping Sony would be ignorant because that could almost eventually kill Guitar Hero. Rock Band would capitalize on that like nobody's business.

You speak of playing COD as if it was a profession. Not every COD player is as attached/obsessed with the game as you are. I loved COD4, but definitely not enough to trade a far-superior console for a DVD-player over. While it may not apply to the 360, there's plenty more on the PS3 besides CoD to keep me and other OCD-free gamers entertained (BFBC, Resistance, Uncharted, SOCOM, just naming the shooters). Also, judging by how the E3 demo looks, if you've played CoD:MW, you've played CoD:MW2. So the answer is no, the PS3 user base would NOT die or convert to 360 if CoD were to leave. Not a single one of those games is going to be cancelled for the PS3. This entire article is moot because they're not going to can all the stuff they've already announced. If they stop supporting the PS3, that won't happen until 2010 or 2011, according to Bobby himself. I doubt even that would happen, but Call of Duty, Wolfenstein, Band Hero, Guitar Hero, Unltimate Alliance, and all the rest will be coming to PS3 this year.

Bobby's probably just pissed that everybody and their mother pitted Prototype against inFamous like they were mortal enemies and people treated Prototype on the PS3 like the red-headed step child that nobody wanted around.

It's the first time I've ever seen a multiplatform game so thoroughly embraced by one side and so completely disowned by the other. Everybody who has a vested interest in seeing the 360 perform better this year was cheerleading Prototype, and vice versa, all PS3 fans were cheerleading inFamous and downplaying Prototype. Kind of seems like a potential root for Activision suddenly feeling more favorable towards 360 and critical of PS3. They had to suffer against inFamous and it's fans on the PS3 front, and they got the full support of a 30-million large fanbase on the 360 front.

By the way, I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm just throwing out my thoughts. Maybe they make sense, maybe they don't.

Yeah, 13% seems like a pretty damn good number, to me. I mean, there are 7 platforms out there for their products: PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, DS, 360, and PC. So if it was split even on all platforms, that would be between 14 and 15 percent on each. We all know that World of Warcraft is by far their biggest cash cow, and the PC is their majority earner. So 13% is actually really, really good.

They didnt make those claims because they want to drop Sony. That will never happen. 40% of Activisions revenue is dependant on Sony platforms.

Their "threats" are bold and baseless. Because everyone knows PS3 has the momentum and has the higher attach rate of all titles.

The reason why they still made those threats, is because THEY want to do better on the PS platforms but somehow fail to do so. Thats why they putting the blame on Sony. Other people would improve its own business model but not Activision. They point fingers first.

See, they dont know why they are not doing that well as opposed to OTHER developers. Yet, they want that same piece of pie. See, they know Sony will take a larger piece of the market share. But what does that mean for Activision? Nothing because it just means that OTHER developers are taking a larger piece of the PS marketshare. Activision will not as long as they continue to fail in doing better on PS platforms.

So instead of focussing on its own business model, Activision puts the blame on Sony.

Why? Because they think they can. After all, they declared themselves the largest publisher around a year ago. They so big, they can even block and sue Brutal Legend developers, which they are doing as we speak.

I'm sure its not as simple as just cut the price to the be equal to the 360. The other fact is that there is a lot of new hardware in a PS3 that is not in an Xbox 360, and that hardware is of better quality.

Multiplats are always going to be equal because of the forumula that developers use to make them. They deliberately set out to make them look equal across all platforms.

I agree Sony should do what they can to get the cost of the PS3 down as soon as possible. But they can't just endless losses on hardware forever.

Uncharted 2 and killzone 2 are great, but the 360 does shine better when it comes to multiplats, which makes it a clear winner to the general public, when they see that it is also cheaper. Modern Warfare 2 is not a game I'm particually looking forward to, COD4 was good but it just didn't hold my interest for too long, tried going back to it recently but I'm afraid after playing Killzone 2, COD4 and it's update WaW, just dont cut it. Knowing Activision they are going to milk this cash cow for years to come constantly bringing out rehashed versions of the same game, but Just like Halo, COD4 and WaW sell more games than they deserve to. Perhaps due to COD4 being the pinnacle of 360 shooters it sells by the bucket full but for me Killzone 2 is far better game in every department so losing Activision (which wont happen by the way, large 3rd party publishers can't afford to drop PS3 if they want profits to keep increasing) wouldn't on their current line up of games be much of a loss.

Er, Namco Bandai has released all the the 360 exclusive titles on the PS3 in one form or the other (with the exception of Ace Combat 6). Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata, and even Katamari are now on the PS3 and this was due to the delay in dev kits. And if you are referring to Tekken 6, there is one reason for this: this is nothing like the PS2 era where one console completely dominated. Neither the PS3 or 360 has a commanding enough of a lead for one publisher to completely subsist on one console alone. Market share is relatively even this generation.

As for Square, they are still supporting the PS3 and have only released one exclusive on the console (Infinite Undiscovery). Last Remnant became an exclusive due to Square's inability to use UE3.

You seem to forget the fact that Konami published a little game exclusive to the PS3 called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots which sold a measly four million copies.

And Take-Two published only these titles in 2008: GTA IV, Midnight Club: Los Angelos, NBA 2K9 and Carnival Games (Wii Exclusive). Note that the first 3 games were multiplatform on BOTH the 360 and PS3. The 360 version of NBA 2K9 managed to outsell the PS3 version by double the sales and that GTA IV (360 Version) outsold the PS3 version by over 1.5 million copies, and last and least, Midnight Club where Take-Two managed to sell the 360 version more than the PS3 version.

So if I do the math for you here... Three multiplat games, all which sold better on the 360 are giving the PS3 more profit? I know that Take-Two reported this but there must be something wrong here especially considering that managed to also sweep 50 million dollars from Microsoft as a bonus for exclusive DLC.

I think Activision is evil for planning to not release all the games they publish over money. But when I really think about it, I think they are just pushing Sony into cutting the price for more consoles to be sold for their games.

Sony wont cut the price because:

If sony did cut the price to a similar level as the 360 then everyone knows that the xbox360 would die...

sony being the big global company that it is likes having microsoft as competition and therefore doesnt want to turn the green DreamCast style machine into a flop

this in turn stops microsoft from releasing their next console be it the xbox720 or whatever too early into the PS3's lifecycle

therefore extending the PS3's lifecycle

The thing is, they have already invested so much money into the development of those games, and those games are so far along in development, that it would be a huge waste of cash for them to drop sony and not even release the games that they were working on. even if they did drop sony, all of those games would release but there would be no further production started for new ps3 games.

If MW2 was not to appear on the PS3 it would be very bad. That game will sell consoles just like the last one did. I am sure the 360 will sell many more as with most other multi-platform games, but if it is PC/360 only then that's just another nail in the PS3's Coffin.

If they do it I bet it might hurt them more then they think, only GH5 an MW2 would be the only to I might care about missing out if it wasn't for the fact I got a Wii a PS2 soon and my 5th 360 next month. Yeah it won't hurt me but think if they did they would have to drop alot of game titles because of Sony having some rights to it.

There are only three games here that people would miss if Activision dropped the PS3. COD6, Singularity, and Wolfenstein. Guitar Hero is being milked and became a Rock Band clone ever since GH4, and nobody cares about movie tie-ins.

because most of their games suck! The few that are good generally compete with Sony 1st and 2nd party Sony Developers who get better treatment. Microsoft philosophy is to buy them not make them which works for Third Parties because of the money of course but also no worries about competition. This is complete opposite of Nintendo which is make'm themselves and screw the rest of the world which works great if your a mario/zelda/metroid fan but doesn't work that great for Third Party Developers. Sony kinda of falls in the middle and preferring to balance it out as much as possible. Of course no matter how hard you try your going to step on somebody's shoe strings eventually and Activision is one of them. Problem is Sony has other first and second party IPs that are in the same genre as Activision's top games and they are more popular among the Sony crowd.

Basically, Sony isn't going to miss what isn't really being played on the Playstation anyway so the threat is idle at best. Activision is very much aware of this that is why the publicity stunt.

The negative publicity stunt doesn't work and if anybody is aware of this it is EA.

Activision should just shut their traps and either back out or make games Playstation gamers actually want to experience....

CoDMW and WaW are played much more then KZ2,Warhawk,Socom, pretty much any mulitplayer Ps3 exclusive combined.

The only game that even concerns me at all and not even that much is MW2. If they want to be anal and drop Sony, then I say let them. They must also realize that once they see the impact it will have on their sales (yeah we know it won't seel as much as the 360 version, but it will sell alot) they may want to jump back on ship and Sony may not let them. Or when Sony does do a price cut later this year they will want to work it out and Sony may not let them. Like I said before, Activision will bleed more amongst on the cutting.
