Microsoft: Final Fantasy XIII will sell more on Xbox 360

FinalFantasy-XIII.net: In reponse to the latest February NPD game / hardware sales figures for the US, Microsoft has commented on "formerly Sony-exclusive series'" expecting them to sell more on the Xbox 360 in the future. This includes the recently released Resident Evil 5 as well as Final Fantasy XIII.

IMHO, I think that with all the exclusives the PS3 is going to spurt out acoupled with a price cut will make it sky-rocket worldwide. And if Microsoft can't get that 360 selling 3x better than the PS3 in japan they can pretty much kiss that 1 year FFXIII sales advance goodbye.

I don't think this will happen but who knows. At GDC or E3 we will have a more clear picture im sure.

Final Fantasy XIII is still exclusive to the PS3 in Japan, and I also think that it'll sell more in Japan alone than in Europe and the United States combined... JRPG's outside of Japan have done pretty poorly in sales this gen.

And it's not like that there's been multiple JRPG's on the 360 that have sold over a million copies, so why would FFXIII be any different? Final Fantasy XIII will DEFINITELY sell more on the PS3, and it will sell more mainly because of the Japanese PS3 exclusive release.

Everyone knows most sales for FF are in Japan. PS3 has that in the bag. I think MS is feeling the pinch from the xbox division and Aaron Greenturd's head will roll first if the results stay this mediocre.

FF fans who want to keep their collections steady will (and should) buy this on the PS3 (because since FF7 the main games have been on PS formats). Some RPG fans may buy it on 360, especially in the US, cos MS has been very clever and they have A LOT of RPGs on their system that are good.

BUT, FF is known for selling very very well in Japan, more than any other territory. And it is exclusive on PS3 in Japan = more sales. FFX sold a million copies in the first week, and shifted A LOT of consoles. I personally will get this on whichever console it releases on first, if that's 360 or PS3 don't care. But if it's simultaneous I'll definitely try and get the PS3 version.

There is no way in hell it FF 13 will sell more worldwide on the 360. That's three territories compared to two. If they mean US only then maybe. But the disc thing is a factor. I'd much rather have 1 scratch proof blu-ray disc then 3 or 4 dvds where if one gets messed up, you have to buy the game all over again. Not to mention a lot of people buy the 360 version of a game because they want to play with friends on xbox live. FF 13 will probably be a solo experience so xbox live doesn't play a role in a purchase decision either. But all you have to do is look at GTA 4 sales which were about even worldwide to know MS is blowing smoke on this one... Even with the promise of dlc it just barely edged out the PS3 version in sales.

Some people are quickly forgetting that you can install games on the 360 as well just like the ps3. They could just bundle it with 2 discs, one for a complete install and the other for gameplay. Or something along those lines, its not like the discs problem will be anything major unless they get scratched by an unknown event.

And Microsoft will also tell you that sales count US the most, even though EU combined generate the same revenue, they will also tell you EU is many countries and US is 1. 1) FFXIII is exclusive in Japan.
2) It will be on 1 blu-ray disc, ant this time this is really an ADVANTAGE, which PS3 didn`t have with RE5 or GTA4.
3) Not to mention, that FFXIII was developed special for PS3, and if square want the game to be running on x360, you can expect x360 version to run in 488p, just like SO4 did.

And the most important thing.. after PS3 pricecut, EVERYTHING will change, there will be end for this war between ps3 and x360, you can expect PS3 to sell on the level of Wii or even higher.

Indeed they are. For one thing, when was Resident Evil ever exclusive to the Playstation? The first came out initially on PSone and Saturn. The second was exclusive for a short time, then came to N64. The third came out on other systems later on. Code Veronica debuted on Dreamcast before it hit the PS2. RE4 hit the Gamecube before it hit the PS2. Resident Evil remake? Gamecube. Resident Evil Zero? Gamecube. The only Resident Evil games ever exclusive to the Playstation series of consoles were the mediocre or crappy side projects like Outbreak and Survivor. The franchise was NEVER based on the Playstation, it's just usually appeared on it... but not exclusively.

That just seems like an empty statement by Microsoft. Just look at Star Ocean: The Last Hope, which never even made it to the top ten in February's NPD. That means it sold less than 136,000 units (#10 Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii)) compared to the 166,000 it sold in its first week in Japan. Now what boggles the mind is that this well established Square-Enix IP couldn't even sell more copies in the US despite having at least a 14 TIMES BIGGER INSTALL BASE, and that's just sad. So you've just got to chuckle at Microsoft's statement here, especially considering that FFXIII isn't even releasing in Japan on their platform.

Sony have managed to lose so many exclusives, yet have so many left. Microsoft couldn't lose that many exclusives and remain standing with a few more.

Meanwhile PS3 fans can enjoy Dead Rising 2 when it is out, no doubt Lost Planet 2 and Bioshock 2, and to keep them occupied, Bioshock and Lost Planet.

Sony have got a number of great exclusives this generation. LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 and Uncharted for example. Microsoft are really getting a little too arrogant here and chances are FFXIII is going to sell a fair amount in Japan on PS3 only, before finally coming to Europe and USA. 360 fans will no doubt enjoy it, but my guess is a lot with get it on PS3 because it's just seen as a Playstation thing.

They must really be concerned about something with how strong they've been coming on recently. Perhaps it's to distract from the lack of 360 titles at the moment? Perhaps it's to take away from people's asking how much the 360 price cut cost them...or why? The 360 was languishing in 3rd place for almost a year in worldwide sales before the price cut so it's understandable that they had to do something. However, based on their last quarterly numbers over the holidays, revenue was up, sales were up and yet they still only managed to tie the PS3 for the year at the cost of a 60% decline in profits over the most important quarter of the entire year.

Seriously PS3 in Japan alone could sell more FF13 than 360 worldwide. With the FF7:ACC with the FF13 demo bundle being released soon hardware sales should see a significant increase thus forcing (if not already planned) Sony and Square-Enix to crate some sort of FF13 bundle in Japan and hopefully worldwide. And with Versus and Agito being released (hopefully having some sort of connectivity with one another) you can only get the full FF13 experience with Sony. The only thing that 360 can do for some sort of damage control is to offer some DLC though I can see PS3 doing the same thing because there's no way Sony is going to want MS have an edge on them when FF13 is released worldwide.

Sony knows how important FF13 and FF13Vs will be for the PS3 and they will most likely lay everything on the line when they are released. These two games alone could could change the "HD console war" in Sony's favor.

Depends on how large the PS3 install base in America is by the time FF gets released. As for now, we know that there are way more 360 owners in the US than PS3 owners, so that could shift alot of copies for the 360 version. In Japan, however, you've got FF13 exclusive to PS3, and we all know how big the install base for PS3 and Final Fantasy is in Japan.

This is a retarded statement. The fact that Final Fantasy XIII is exclusive to PS3 in Japan is gonna be a big factor in making the PS3 version the better seller. Not to mention that Final Fantasy is long known to be a PlayStation game so people will buy PS3 based on that.

1. No xbox JRPG has come close to PS3 JRPG's in sales
2. Final Fantasy is a more well known game than any other RPG released so far.
3. FFXIII on xbox 360 isn't even going to be released in Japan (last time I heard of it) and the Japs will go crazy about this game over there.

If this MS exec is speaking of US I can give him that since the userbase of xbox 360 is more than twice the one of PS3. But since there is an outside world besides US this will never happen.

And he's comparing Oblivion from both consoles. From what I recall, I picked up the Oblivion for my 360 a long while ago and I think it was ported to the PS3 months later.

With Fallout, the install base of the PS3 increased and since the game was released for both consoles simultaneously, the numbers are a better representation than the Oblivion numbers.

Elder scrolls Oblivion is pretty much a PC game, so no wonder the numbers are high as the 360 crowd are PC players in console player clothes.

Fallout 3 a seriously great game but we have the same case, it's a PC style game.

Now just looking at the vids of FF13 and it seems like it is moving towards an action based turn based game play which sounds weird but if the game play is more like the PC mmo games then I would lean towards the xbox and also japan not really getting into it while china eats it up like it's opium. Another thing is what would happen with FF13 coming to the Wii? I mean wii fit hit how many millions? The funny thing is SE could use the same tricks they used with the PS1 and PS2 FF13 game and FMV almost every thing. LOL it would be on a few disk maybe but it would be pretty fun. You could even use the balance board to preform magic. If you've never done game design for the Wii then you may not understand where I'm going with that.

Back to MS if this does happen this will be the cherry on top of MS's cake but like many Pro PS3 gamer I don't think it would happen. Yet another thing is most of you do realize that lots of HD japan console sales maybe coming from US military bases and the influx of Americans working over there? It would explain why the number would jump but only by so much.

It's clear that when a game that did well in the last generation for Sony..everybody keeps looking at the this generations gaming consumers through PS2 eyes. It is 2009 and the truth is games that all of the major Multi-platform games have sold better on Microsoft.

It is also true that most games sales this generation come from outside of Japan. For example the top selling exclusive for PS3 is Metal Gear Solid 4. When the last update had it a 3.89 million. The breakdown was:

MGS4: Japan 670,000/ America: 1.56 million/ Other countries: 1.66 million

So the Japan comparison vs. the Xbox 360

Highest Japanese sales on the PS3 - 670,000
Highest American sales on the Xbox 360 - 20,000

So the truth is it doesnt even matter if Final Fantasy XIII is a Japanese Exclusive.

They are western RPG which lack imagination. The market for HD gaming is more of a western RPG fan right now you guys like sims. Maybe it is due to the price or maybe the selection of games. Also more women seem to like FF series on the PS2. That is a big chunk of sells you guys may not get to see. The biggest complaint back in the day was cloud looks like a girl. I love FF but even I stayed away from the last few because of that to only go over a various girls houses to see them leveling up. FF7 was more for a guy and the series started to become more for women in my eyes. Surely the sales will show this. You guys fail to see lots more women where buying the PS2 and the PS3 just is not appealing and I have never met a straight women with an Xbox but I guess that may change.
