In the latest issues of a Japanese gaming magazine, an article about Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 appeared, confirming the game for PS3.

It won't be a port. Microsoft has the publishing rights to Ninja Gaiden 2, unlike the first Ninja Gaiden, and they sure as hell won't want to publish it on a competitor's console.

That said, Tecmo owns the IP, and I expect that Sigma 2 will be a new game that includes all of the new features in Ninja Gaiden 2 (Like the Scythe weapon, finishers, over-the-top gore, etc.) without the same story line/level layout of NG2. That and Sigma 2 might be an improvement if Tecmo decides to fix some of the issues of NG2.

lmao I no longer have a game I truly want on the 360. Maybe Fable 2 but it's more like "it looks really interesting". I would probably like it though but since I've never touched the series I have no real attachement to it. Ninja Gaiden on the other hand is one of my favorite action games (actually it's only behind God Of War) and it has by far the most FLUID combat gameplay of all the action games (which was really the only thing it was truly great at). Okay not by far, DMC3 actually was really smooth as well.

Of course this is just my personal taste.

It may be that MS has the rights to publish the game on their system. But the fact that TEMCO owns the IP means that they has full control over it.

It's like Mass Effect. If EA wanted to publish the game on the PS3 they could. Because they own the IP, they can do what they want with it.

NG2 was fun, but it felt easier than NG1 and the story was just as lame as ever.

PS3 fans, don't be afraid to try this out but don't expect it to win any awards for story development lol

And unless someone can clarify for us by reading in Japanese, it's safe to assume that THIS IS NOT a PS3 exclusive. It could re-release on Xbox360 to try and spark the game sales again.

Technically, this is not Ninja Gaiden 2. Because the Gaiden series are bound by contract to the 360. However, Sigma is an upgraded Gaiden using built-from-the-scratch engine for the PS3 with added content. So Sigma is basically a new game. That’s how they went around the contract and that’s how they are going to go around it again this time around.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 = Ninja Gaiden 2 + added content + expansion on revamped PS3 engine.

So this is not just a PORT. As is evidenced by Sigma 1, which looks tons better than gaiden 1 and black.

This was bound to happen anyway, Itagaki and friends left TECMO leaving the company in uncertainty. The easiest way to get money without much effort is making Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3. I wouldn't be surprised if it looked better on PS3 since NG2 was quite a dissapointment from a visual standpoint considering how incredible NG1 was.

The team is great for making ports but to make a whole new game... that's another story.

Yet I was insulted by Xbox fanboys, and they said "MICROSOFT TEH PUBLISHEER!!".

Just to clarify, some people are saying this will be a "re-make" which doesn't make sense. Others are saying it will be a port when the article clearly says it won't be a port. So what will it be? Well, Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a remake. Its engine used PS3's strengths. It's likely that they'll use the same assets, and that they won't "port" it because it won't be the same engine as NG2, it'll be Sigma's upgraded engine. Since that engine runs better on PS3 (higher resolutions, for example), I don't doubt it'll be the definitive version. Especially with the additional content that only fits on a BD disc.

Since this NGS2 is not going to be a direct port, it also leads us to believe it being better than the original NG2 (which kinda looked a*s as well).

Awesome, I loved Ninja Gaiden Sigma. This Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is now one of my most anticipated titles this year, together with God of War 3, Uncharterd 2 and Heavy Rain.

Unfortunately, (and disappointingly), Itagaki left a lot of room for improvement with NG2. I expected a lot more but for some reason, it didn't arrive.

In terms of Gameplay, Ninja Gaiden 2 was way too similar to the first one, and this is why I didn't even beat the game even when I was a big fan of the first part. It just felt way too familiar to me, without any surprises in the road. Visually, it had its great moments, but for the most part, it wasn't the visual greatness the first one was on Xbox.

After 1 year, I believe Hayashi, with the experience his team acquired with Sigma, can improve on NG2... but don't expect the game to be a Triple A since it's only going to be a pimped out version of NG2, which was disappointing.

As for the "Xbox 360 ship sinking"... it seems that Sony boys are so eagerly awaiting for anything they can take as "good" news they don't think clearly. Microsoft's franchises keep selling way more than Sony's counterparts. Heck, KZ2 might not even sell past half the pace of MGS4 if previous news are to be believe nor the hardware has surpassed the 360's in a single month since September.

In this generation, it's very hard to keep a franchise exclusive, but for those that matter I believe MS is doing a great job securing them (even if temporarily) or stealing them (See Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed... etc) which by the way, released simultaneously, not a year after.

Don't be too surprised if you hear exclusivity news (secured or broken) about Bioshock or MGS4 at this E3. I would love to hear you guys saying anything about a ship sinking by then.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an *******. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Ninja Gaiden Σ2, nor will they purchase any of Tecmo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Tecmo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Tecmo, publicly apologize and cancel Ninja Gaiden Σ2 for PS3 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

No one wrote off NG2. At the time 360 fanboys put NG2 on a high platform it didnt deserve to be on. Especially when in comparison to PS3 at the time was releasing MGS4. Now we all know those two games are no compairison(thats why NG2 was downplayed). Now with NG2Sigma coming it will be the definitive version of NG2 jist like the original sigma. i differ, NG 2 was a big letdown for fans of NG 1 and NG Black. A total button masher, gore fest with no skill level needed = avarage.

I bought a 360 when i found out about this game, imagine how upset i was. Fortunately the 360 3 years warranty assures me 3 years minimum of game play and the games library is second to none. Pure fun (leaving out the crappy hardware).
Great games, pay for live but is good, pure hardcore gaming, no casual BS that affects true gamers.

Now, if Sigma 2 is a upgraded NG 2, No thx. Story is crap, ending is crap, game play gets boring.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 had a much improved camera compared to Gaiden 1/Sigma. They are 'fixed' at times but plays how its supposed to. Btw, you have to beat the game to unlock a higher level, beat that level to unlock another...so on and so forth. Mentor difficulty is extremely hard, Master Ninja is nearly impossible to beat.

I think it is a port, they're just calling it Sigma so people know it's "enhanced" or it's the PS3 version.

If not, I hope there is more content to unlock and the trophies aren't too hard (on the 360 version you had to complete the game multiple times to get the weapon achievements). So far I've owned every Ninja Gaiden title released so I suspect I'll be getting this one "just because."

Itagaki made Ninja Gaiden what it is today, sure it started in the arcades and NES but it was having it's ass kicked by Sega's Shinobi, and when Ninja Gaiden was released on Xbox with Itagaki's vision of it, then it was truly born by Itagaki.

I mean why won't they go back to the other Ninja Gaiden? Why build it off of the canvas of Itagaki's work? Why not create one of their own?

However, it is my opinion, that Itagaki f'd himself by running his mouth and taking shots at other developers too often. About Ninja Gaiden being what it is today, I would say that it wasnt just Itagaki's vision, as much as it was Itagaki's, developers'/coders', QA dept's vision. It's just that Itagaki took all the credit for it, despite everyone else putting in the blood,sweat, and tears.... So really he had the loudest mouth, but no humility like other traditional Japanes developers, and it cost him dearly(humble pie is bitter dish, best served cold). I agree that on the older platforms, Sega's Shinobi was putting the whoop on Ninja Gaiden, but if you look at the reasons, I'm sure you'll find it justified. At a time when Sega was an accomplished console maker(albeit confused when making attatchments), and 2-D fighting was where it was at(with the exception of Ballz 3D and Virtua Fighter, Shinobi 3 rocked the 16-bit house with full resolution 16-bit sprites, an awesome medieval japanese/heavy metal soundtrack, and advanced foreground to background side scrolling, as well as individual segments that broke up the non-stop combat, such as the jet-board, horseback, and boss stages(the bosses were pretty epic). At that time in the 16-bit era, Tecmo was coming up short on the bus when it came to Ninja Gaiden. Though I used to enjoy NG for what it was in the old generation(pure hardcore time/quarter-muncher), I enjoyed last generation's play at bringing hardcore to the third dimension. So I am sure I will enjoy this round as well, and I for one am VERY excited to get a second Sigma.

Well it's easy to see why people would think it's a flop. At one point in time, people were able to buy the game for $10 dollars at Best Buy.

Infinite Undiscovery flopped so hard it's price was slashed in half shortly after it's release.

So it's easy to see why some people might consider NG2 as a flop.

people say sigma is better then ninja gaiden 2. the updated sigma 2 will of course be the best verion as was the first sigma compared to the last ninja gaiden. oh well this is one less exclusive x360 owners have and thats not good seeing as there line up will be basically multiplat games. mass effect, gears, and fable is all they got left. I think fable is overated and in the future I think mass effect and gears will go multiplat as well. It doesnt matter when you get the games on your console what matters is if you can play them and if they are better then the originals.

I already have MGS4 on my PS3 so I can give a d__m about MGS4 coming out on another system. For you information, Mass Effect 2 and Lost Planet 2 were only announced for x360 thus far. If it is timed exclusive,full exclusive, or released on the same day, I really don't care as I will be getting it on x360 anyways like all my 3rd party games.

My point I wantto stress is why brag about something that is already on another system already. And I have both PS3 and x360 because I am a gamer and I can pick and choose which games I want regardless of exclusive BSs. Peace Out

The rumors came from some reviewer they said that you must change the disc to end a Sub mission/Quest and that would happen for the hole game.
And that the resolution is in Sub Hd and has Framerate drops too.
and that the gamegraphic dont look like the screenshots published by SE.

They think that it is a Ps3 game at was planed as ps3 game, but later (after the check form M$)they ported it to the 360.

And the problem was that 360 has no BLU-RAY, so they must splitt some Missions and now you must change the Disc only to end a MIssion or Quest.

Looks like damage control has started early. By the time the game comes out it will be slightly more than a year, with completely improved visuals, gameplay and added content. Sounds like a good trade off, especially when PS3 owners have got Killzone 2 and Infamous to hold them off until then. This just shows though, third party exclusives are nearly impossible to hold on to, unless they own the IP.

Publishers know this, they simply screwed Microsoft and its fanboys, and now PS3 fans get this game. The better version of the game, actually. So while you played a game that was gonna be on other platform, PS3 owners were playing games that were definitely not going to appear on your platform.

Sales are very important to a developler and the end user (us being the gamers). To create a game a dev has to have a certain amount of resources available to them to create a game. A dev then plans on selling "X" amount of games to hit the break even point and receive hopfully some gains.

If a game doesn't sell well on a console, then they are at a loss and if they are a smaller dev compnay will either go bankrupt and close the doors of their company or are bought up by a larger company at a low price.

Sales of a game = money in Devs pockets = more games they will develope for that console = Larger library of games for that console = greater console sales = potentially larger install base...rinse and repeat.

This is why sales are VERY important if you want a dev to continue to make games you like for the console of your choice.

This news has made my day, absolutely adored NG:S on the PS3, was one of the first titles I got on the system and due to PS3's rather slow start the game kept me entertained for ages. Through all difficulty levels (now that I'm a bit of a trophy whore, I just wish it had trophies) NG2 up till now has been one of the games that made me think about buying a 360. Hell, late last year when I had a little extra cash I nearly did but held off in the end.

I can't wait for this, keep the gameplay smooth and as close to NG:S and I'll be a very happy man.

As I said in my post above, I'd prefer for a different playable character to Ayane as I'm really not a fan of DoA (yes I know Ryu is in DoA) but I'd much rather see Rachael playable again, contrary to a lot of people, I thought she was a great character in Sigma.

I think some of vitriolic posts on here are missing the point.

NG2 was flawed gem. Anyone who plays fighters of this nature must agree, it has the best combat system of any such game, a trully deep and rewarding combat mechanic. Valid critisms were levelled at the camera, the story and the graphics engine, but the underlying game mechanics were to notch.

The thought of having such refined combat mechanic, with a new engine and possibly some of the annoyances removed, is surely exciting for any game fan of this genre? I played it on my 360, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited by the possibility of a better remix on my PS3.
Maybe all the flaws will be removed and the title can truly lay claim to being the best of its breed.

Ninja Gaiden 2 had the most intense fighting experience in gaming history. It wasn't as polished as the previoes NG titles on both the xbox and PS3. But its fighting system was unmatched by them or any other action adventure. That said, I think it will be a port with more content. I don't mind that because any extra content for Ninja Gaiden 2 will be embraced instantly. However, the problem I have is that Itagaki will not be involved, and that means that the quality of the controls and gameplay won't be as perfect as in Ninja Gaiden 2. I believe that Ninja Gaiden without Itagaki is like Metal Gear without Kojima. The magic will no longer exist. I don't think that anyone in team ninja could create a better experience than what Itagaki did, let alone any other developer. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a good game but not a great one. It was too casual for the Ninja Gaiden fans. It isn't as great as the xbox titles, and it certainly isn't as great as Ninga Gaiden 2. To put it bluntly, it is nothing more than a Ninja Gaiden Black port with meaningless extra content, enhanced graphics, cheap visual effects, dumbed down gameplay, slower enemies, weaker AI, and unresponsive controls. That Said, I need to clarify that Team Ninja is known for its incredibly responsive controls. That is why I believe that Ninja Gaiden Sigma has the most responsive controls on the PS3. However, there is a slight delay and lack of sensitivity in the controls. Trust me, I'm speaking from experience; I am not explaining this from a gamer's perspective; I am explaining it from a Master Ninja's perspective. I only hope this port will not be as casual as the first one.

I really like Sigma. It was an early game that looked and played really great, so smooth. I was a sucker and even bought the collector's edition which I admit was a bit of a waste.

I think if we can learn anything from the big game developers basically all being multiplatform publishers, is that Microsoft needs to start some "Sony" tactics.

Microsoft should start buying up small game studios that show potential. While Sony has lost some big name exclusives over the years, they still have a ton of huge 1st party franchises and I think fans of any console can see that its starting to show.

Either way, I just hope they don't release it near Uncharted, Infamous, etc. The Trophy hunting for this game will probly be a lot of fun!

I loved Ninja Gaiden Sigma but the game was a bit hard.

The only problem I see on the incoming Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is that it will probably be very hard to get the platinium trophy because only a very few players will be able to finish it on the hardest and nightmare modes of difficulty.
Other then that the game will be amazing and for me is enough un just to finish the game on easy ,normal and hard.

Having Ayane as a playable character on the PS3 version is a big deal. Rachel was not really a full-fledged member of the Team Ninja/DOA family. Moreover, Rachel was slow so it was easy for the Xbox fans to dismiss her. However, Team Ninja always makes their ninja rock. Play any DOA if you don't already know what I mean. Anyone who is a fan of Ninja Gaiden, or DOA, will be forced to respect her ability.

Ayane is a entirely different creature from Rachel. She is a ninja in her own right, and a full-fledged member of the Team Ninja/DOA family. She will be able to do all the ninja stuff that I wished Rachel could do but she couldn't. Rachel couldn't run on the wall; that won't be a problem for Ayane. Rachel couldn't do a wind-roll, that won't be a problem from Ayane. Rachel was SLOW, Ayane won't have that problem; she will be FAST.

Even in the first Ninja Gaiden Sigma I wanted Ayane for the extra playable character, although I would have been well-pleased with one of her siblings (Kasumi or Hayate). Now they are going to give me exactly what I wanted.

AS A NINJA GAIDEN FAN, I AM THRILLED. THIS IS A PRE-ORDER, DAY ONE PURCHASE FOR ME.

If I had an XBOX360 and they didn't offer Ayane as DLC, I WOULD BE PISSED.

But i am really happy about this because now i have 3 games that i am really interested on PS3 (Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1-2 and GT5). - They're losing the few only exclusives they had left while the dozens of Sony 1st 2nd party AAA exclusives that they can't buy continue to rain on us.

Basically soon PS3 library = 360 library + tons of AAA PS3 exclusives. Easy choice.

- They don't announce anything anymore, and they don't buy any exclusive or timed exclusive anymore

- They're beaten in 3rd party sales despite a larger install base (RE5 worldwide 55/45 for the PS3 announced yesterday on vg), partly due to piracy, partly due to the fact people simply prefer the PS3. No wonder with such sales the devs are making the games on PS3 first now.

when Ninja Gaiden II was released exclusively for the 360 last summer I was bombarded by fellow PS fans for saying this game looked really good, and that I would have to find a way to play it on a 360. This wasn't worth any PS3 gamer's time and was complete garbage.

Now that it is coming a year later its a completely different story. When I just had a PS3 I mainly stuck to PS forums, but now that I have had a 360 for a while I have broadened my scope just a bit. I have learned one thing-Fanboys are a f'n joke. It goes both ways too.

I was one of the envious gamers that regretted trading in their 360 because I really wanted this game. Though, I had a slight hope that it was coming to our side as Sigma 2 or something since they did remake Ninja Gaiden for us. I don't think Tecmo can avoid to be bias or do what they used to do, things change, they need to survive. I suspect DOA 5 to be announce as well for both platforms.

Judging by the title art, it doesn't appear to be Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, it looks more like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. So I don't know what to think...

I think Sony fans are praising Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2...Not Ninja Gaiden 2. With NGS2 we know that there will be better graphics, fixed bugs, and even extras.

Id sugest you buy this game as It kicks a$$. With the extra time I hope they fix some of the bugs, cause that was the only thing taht held it back. It is actually a challenging game and has awesome weapons.

NOw everyone will see why I was always saying how awesome this game is. Ther is no other games with weapons even close to thiS. I bet one of the new bosses will replace the fight with th two armadillos, cause that was the stupidest part in the game(if its in there use the sythe).

I had to decide between the PS3 and the 360 last spring. The game I wanted to play the most at that time was NINJA GAIDEN 2 but I chose to buy a PS3 anyway. I crossed my fingers and hoped that this day would come since the PS3 already had SIGMA. I will own this game the day it hits store shelves. Thank you SONY and TECMO. I no longer have to second guess the decision I made last spring.

The fanboys have come out in the masses for this article. While I have and have beaten the 360 version of this game, I also did the same with all three versions that came out before, NG, NG:Black, and NG:Sigma. I personally cannot wait for this version to come out. The people that argue about the fanboy arguments are just that, fanboys. Everyone should be able to play this game because it's gameplay is second to none. PS3 fans should be nothing but excited that they are getting such an amazing game. 360 fans should be happy that more people will be able to enjoy what might be the masterpiece of gameplay mechanics. If you love games you should want everyone to play all of them, not just a select few.

Belittling NG2 or not, it's coming to the PS3 with enough improvements to differentiate it from the 360 version. As much as I like Ninja Gaiden, it's not the best game in it's genre out there. 360 fans got to chill out about losing this exclusives, it's not like MS has lost a triple-A title here.

I know I'm late to the party here. My visits to N4G are becoming more and more random. I'm glad I popped in to see this news. Although NG Sigma is a remake of my favorite Xbox game I am thoroughly enjoying it now. I really liked NG 2 on the 360 as well. I feel the game was put together nicely although a lot of people claimed it was crap and most of them never played it. I hope this is a totally original game and please Tecmo bring back the roll because the dash absolutely sucks.
