I have pretty much covered up everything in the game, Hype no hype I still give really hard reviews for most games. Most seem to forget Gamespot IGN,your beloved blogs all run on revenues from game companies and other places they will give a it a mighty high scores. In my review I did not cover the multiplayer mode even though it was pretty well expained by Sony execs like for most other blogs...cause there were no servers up for the game, so assessing a games multiplayer sans its online mode in its full glory is a crime...I shall provide an update when the game officially releases...

i couldn't agree more about gears 2 being broken. BUT...when they did the multiplayer reviews of the game, they played lan games. the game wasn't available on live yet so their experience was where there was no off host. and most of the bugs and glitches exist due to exploiting being off host. and the host advantages like a working shotgun wouldn't show up either because on a lan, everyone is effectively host.

so it is tru that when gears 2 launched it had noticable problems and obviously wasn't play tested for live very well, if at all; but it is untrue that the reviewers new about these problems and still gave it favorable reviews because from their perspective those flaws didn't exist.

it should also be noted that epic and ms have fixed many of the bugs since it launched. and i finally started playin it again cuz they fixed host shotgun advantage.

The headline is erroneous. Gamespot didn't say don't trust other reviews. They just said that they would rather play with the multiplayer longer so they could give a more accurate review. They didn't say anything about other reviews, the guy writing the article made that up. You should actually read the reason on gamespot rather than trusting whatever this douche says.

We should trust the reviews as much as we trust any reviews (not saying we should trust any of them all that much, just so we're clear). There's no reason to trust KZ2 reviews any less. No game gets played extensively before these joker reviewers give their critique. They don't play games to play them, they play games to criticize them, and I'll tell you right now that they don't get into a game to be able to judge it accurately the way a person who spent their money on the game would. This applies to all reviews, so we shouldn't have a special case of dis-trust for the Killzone 2 reviews because they're doing the same damn thing they always do.

Anyway, I just checked out MetaCritic and Killzone 2 has a 94 according to its specific page, but on the main page it has a big 93 written next to it. Why the discrepancy?

First of all, GS didn't say that exactly. They want to wait on the review so they can get more time playing the multiplayer. Though I bet it also has to do with getting more hits by posting more previews. If they posted their review now, then people would stop checking the site for their review.

The issue here is one of the exposure the reviewers had to the multiplayer. For a game like killzone where the Multiplayer is so deep, the fact there have only been 3 multiplayer sessions for US reviewers (according to GameSpot) is the issue.

While I applaud your desire to stop any untruthful statements about a game, Gears 2's online was the very definition of unplayable: being unable to enter a match anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes is unplayable, as in, you're not playing! Not to mention the lag, because there were enough laggy game matches for me to take notice. The lag wasn't terrible, but to wait 10+ minutes to enter a match only to be timed out or crippled by slow p2p connection lag isn't my idea of "playable".

^^After watching that, it definantly sounded like Mr. Stark had spent PLENTY of time with KZ2's multiplayer.

Gamespot said that they were going to hold off on the review and play the game on Live servers when it releases and play through it more, but that doesn't mean that other reviews thus far can't be trusted, that's just silly. Eurogamer wouldn't have given KZ2 a 9 if they didn't think it was worth that score, that's for sure and the same thing goes for other sites because PS3 exclusives don't get Free Passes, especially not Killzone 2.

I think Gamespot just have a higher review requirement, I mean they said that they will no take the MGS4 pre-launch trip to Nasu, which many other game-sites took, but yet they gave a 10 to the game. The differnce is this game is a polished gem. GTA was a buggy mess.

Now I say polished, meaning that they went over it and over it and got everyting just right. A rare treat in this day and age with publishers releasing half finished games all the time, knowing they can patch it.

If truth be told, if GG wanted to do that there probably could have released it a year ago, as it still looked better than anything else back then. I'm sure the temptation was there to steal some of Gears thunder. But no, they did the right thing by the fans and made it the best they could.

I wouldn't listen to anyone having petty little niggles just trying to find something to bring it down, they didn't do that with GTA, Gears or Halo and those games all had big problems. If this game had any gamebreaking flaws we would have heard of them by now.

Some reveiwers are just too scared to give the game the credit it deserves because no ones got the guts to stand up and say I doubted this game from the very beginning, and I was wrong. There are only 37 reviews so far in Metacritic. Most popular next-gen games reach at least 80 reviews. I can guarantee everybody that Killzone 2 metascore will be below 90 (exactly like it happened before to Resistance 2) when the rest of the reviews get released. Just don't cry when you see this game in B territory, where it belongs. ;)

Yeah, I wouldn't even click the link, tbh. I gave up on GS (again-I did after they continued the R&C bias then trued to mangle Wipeout HD the next day-but after all the mail they got I felt they were trying to keep a more even keel)after the "impressions"-were they giving impressions about Killzone2 or an impression of someone giving a premeditated opinion over a backdrop of KZ2? As for the beret? Less Satre, more Frank Spencer.

In short:the aricle "he said, she said" BS for hits-well done if thats your bag fella.
& GS giving themselves more time to fairly review MP for KZ2? They've had plenty and the only thing I can see behind them doing it is a hope that the servers have teething problems or the game ships Geas2 style online-which would give them, in their short sighted view(ie ignoring the fact they didn't make this exception for ANY other game EVER), a good time to bang in a low score and say "see, trust us now?".
Every time I think GS are clawing back some credibility they shoot themselves in the foot. I don't recall them needing more time online with any game before this one-which had, imo, the best online beta of anything I've been in and requires the "wait" less than pretty much any other game in that respect so GS doing this smacks of desperation/some pressure from somewhere.

kinda just repeating a story from the other day and putting your own twist on it... perhaps some sites like g4tv had guys that played the beta? in which case they would have had a good look at the multi-player. This happens for every game tbh because the servers aren't up when they get their review copy so they can only judge the multi-player on the sessions they're invited to and the beta. It's why you have a game like gow2 when they give it lots of praise from the sessions they we're invited to but since there wasn't a beta they didn't get to see how awful the online was out of the box (and all fairness still is, i should know since i tried playing it again last night :/).

Also i'm not sure it's a very professional article to write "gamespot said" when actually they didn't say don't trust kz reviews they simply stated why they wern't getting their review out just yet. This is actually your opinion and it seems by writing an article like this your trying desperately to get hits for the site/ combat the praise that kz is recieving.

You don't need to worry about reviews!
Just look at the pros and cons written by different reviewers, then you can tell if the game is worth it or not. The final score means nothing (IGN final rating: Graphics: 9. Sound: 9.5 Story: 9.5 Presentation 9.5 Long Lasting: 9.0 OVERALL: 9.0) That doesn't make sense, because the overall should be 9.5.

When you read reviews, only look for the good points and bad points!

For an example, read Ninja Gaiden 2's review, half of the reviewers will not mention the game has a bad loading time, glitches, lag and bugs. While others will praise it's (generic) graphics as one of the best graphics on Xbox 360.

IMO the reviews for most all the PS3 games have been a joke I just deduct 10% and go with that! Killzone 2 will be just another good game and that's all. I will play it once and put it away just like Resistance 2.

Seriously though the point of a review is to inform you of the game and its features. Why do reviewers need to of played the online component for x amount of weeks before they can say whether or not the infrastructure works and this and that feature is used well etc. With online shooters the long term enjoyment is down to who you play with, how you choose to interact with the community, basically its something which is different for everybody so i see no need to hear how whatever gamespot reviewer is finding it after 3 weeks.

Oh and find it funny how the review criteria for fps has just jumped up so high all of a sudden. hmm i wonder why....?

Gamespot typically works with "Retail" Copy only for multiplayer games to get a grasp of what the game will be like. Playing on isolated servers skew the experience. and its no big deal. Guaranteed Gamespot won't be the only ones with late reviews for this game.

Either this guy has never received a press copy of a game, or works for a rinky-dink outfit that is a low priority for publishers to send press copies to. Press copies are burned on standard DVDs and only run on debug units (and on the special online system for testers/press), which will allow reviewers to edit their progress in games. I know this because I have worked for one of these rinky-dink outfits, and remember receiving Fable 2 on a disc that looked a lot like System of a Down's "Steal This Album" (which is to say it was a blank disc with Fable 2 written on it in pen [not even Sharpie!]). This disc was received weeks before the game came out, and days before any reviews were available. Now keeping in mind that I was working for a site with 3 staff members, we put over 50 hours between us into that game in 3 days, and had in fact beaten it on day 1. This was us, working on a site that gets like a thousand hits a week. Now multiply that by the volume of staff at IGN or where ever, who actually get PAID to do this. Big titles like this are played in shifts and rotations, and even if the people at IGN are too stupid to unlock everything with their debug units (highly unlikely), they've probably already put hundreds of hours between many people on the same save game profile for just this reason.

So in conclusion, my response to this article is:

Edit: Also debug units can play burned copies of the game (at least for xbox), so there's no reason they couldn't be playing on LAN.

Im a hardcore gamer which means i hate 99% of games out there. I play alot of games and i only really play good ones. I dont like Halo 3, Resistance fall of man. Call of duty 4 in my mind got it right. I saw the footage of the in game of Killzone 2 and it looks like the Controls suck big time... Look at it closely and take your own decision but head shots look hard to do. Controls are the most important thing in a shooter so no mater how good the graphics are if it doesnt play right its not good (Crysis Im looking at you). Im thinking gametrailers are the closest to reality right now on what the score should be. It doesnt look THAT good... dont get me wrong it wont be bad just not revolutionary or all the propaganda we hear.

Accessibility is a concern only for the casual gamer, and as a "hard core" gamer, you should see these trailers and say "those guys suck at video games", not "this game looks hard to control". MGS for instance: atrocious control scheme, amazing games, and gameplay (when in the hands of someone who's not a nub), can become a thing of beauty. Devil May Cry 3 on manual: 2nd game to ever make my fingers actually bleed from pressing buttons (first being Killer Instinct on SNES), and again, amazing game.

If control was really that important to you, CoD4 wouldn't be the game you pegged as "getting it right", it would probably be a valve game (PC), or fight night. And further, a headshot should be 10 times as hard as just hitting the person, because the head is 1/10th of the average person's volume, and unless the people at Guerilla changed it so you control the z-axis with buttons instead of the analog stick (a la Golden Eye, one of the greatest console shooters ever made), then I don't see how the control scheme changes anything. The difficulty of a headshot is going to come down to just 3 things: sensitivity, hit box size, and user skill. 2 of those things you have direct control over.
