World's Loudest Xbox 360?

We knew the Xbox 360 is a pretty noisy machine, by this? Did Microsoft's Xbox 360 repair service not check this person's console before sending it back? The person in this video claims that it started making these sounds after he got it repaired by Microsoft.

Exactly the same thing happend to my little brothers 360. He got RROD and when he called up microsoft support they said "OMG another one???" It was back then when the RROD went on it's killing spree. After getting it fixed it started to sound just like that and after that he sent it back and got it repaired again.

I own an PS3 and the disc drive failed on me once and I had to get it repaired. After that it has been absolutely no problems at all. Not even with the 2.4 update. My PS3 is quiet as a mouse but when it's rly hot in my room and Im playing GTA4 for 2 hours it automaticly starts the backup fan that sounds just like the ordinary xbox360 fan thats going all the time. I just love my high-tec PS3 ^^

When I got my Bravia for my room it said quite clearly in the manual don't put it in an alcove directly blocking the vents at the top, so I didn't. It never said it couldn't be set into the wall a bit just make sure it has a few feet above it of space to vent the heat.

When I got the PS3 it says pretty much the same thing (It also vents the heat out the top. Or the side if you're a horizontal PS3er) but it basically meant you shouldn't put you PS3 in a glass box. Heck a PS3 even works in a sauna!

The thing is though, while it says this may damage your TV or PS3 it doesn't say you have to leave the console (or TV) out in the middle of the room well ventilated by AirCon or a circulating fan or that you must get an intercooler if you live in a house a degree over 20C.

The PS3 can handle heat fine, I think it needs about half a foot of space above to be able to continue working properly, just like that guy had in the vid. The 360 obviously can't handle that. A console should be designed to work even in various enclosed spaces so long as the vent isn't covered completely or directly and it has enough space to push the heat out successfully (15cms is enough for any well-built tech).

Basically you should be able to put a console under your TV on a shelf without it overheating. I've been told over and over again by 360 owners that 360 failures are due to the customers themselves not keeping their system well ventilated... the console ITSELF has to vent the heat NOT you, you shouldn't have to worry! It should be able to work in a room, alone, without assistance from fans or whatever else, the 360 just isn't up to scratch for that.

This site was run by 360 fanboys during that time, when positive PS3 articles didn't even make it onto the site and there were tons of negative ones.

The fact that positive articles get through indicates (to me at least) that the fanboyism is now more balanced. At least you get to read about positive 360 news these days.

This time last year it was "Delaystation!" every other comment and "Bioshock FTW!" about a month before it's release, that continued up until Christmas time when things got a bit better. Burnout: Paradise in Jan started to swing things around since Criterion made the PS3 their primary kit. Now we're here at this point where PS3 fanboyism is balanced with that of the 360.

Just because the 360 is actually getting negative news now doesn't mean the Sony fanboys have 'taken over' it just means N4G is no longer under sole ownership by 360 fanboys.

When I turn on my 360, it's actually quiet...but as soon as the disk starts spinning it gets louder than any console I've ever had, sounds like a commercial grade fan. Most of the noise problems are probably due to the disk drives.

I had an Xbox 360 and it was a fantastic console until it gave me a RROD. But that was march last year. the Xbox 360 only lasted 11 months but because I lost the reciept for it I couldnt return the console for repair. The only thing that bothered me about the Xbox 360 was the nosie from the cooling fans and the DVD rom drive was noisey too.

I have a PS3 with just over a year and its still running. But I might buy one of the new 60 gig Xbox 360's that will be coming out if its reported that it has the new motherboard with the better cooling solution on it. (I think its the falcon motherboard)

I had the RROD a while ago and they sent me a new unit made in 2007 instead of repairing it. It is in a closed cabinet and when I play on it I open the door so it doesn't get so hot. But a couple of times it was switched on by the media remote by mistake and it has been on for ages and its fans were roaring unbelievebly loud, But I would rather have that than have it RROD again. AND it proves that microsoft have solved the problem with the new ones.

Realizing that Microsoft spent te equivalent of 10 minutes on quality control...PRICELESS

I gave up after two boxes. Why consumers stand for this sub standard equiptment is beyond me.

I made the switch and havent looked back. Wireless included, free online, no RROD, no leaf blower noise levels.

So it doesn't have in game private voice chat...SO WHAT!!

@Yanikins theres much better cooling on the new Xbox 360 OPUS motherboard which would help solve the overheating and RROD problems. Maybe you should have crawled out from under your rock and read the report about the new motherboard before commenting.
