12 Games To Play Before You Die

Christmas lists don’t have to be as jolly as the season usually dictates, and our latest is surely no exception – the ‘12 games to play before you die’. Just like the 12 days of Christmas, only much less cheerful...

sorry

if i knew i was going to die i would not be playing any games but if i had 2choose i would choose

MGS4

Fallout Vegas
GT5
Infamous
Uncharted 2
God of War games
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Burnout
MW2 or OPS
Sports Champions

is that 12?

ok
but really... if i was about to die i would stop playing with the sticks and get it played with

JoySticksFTW4927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

Slap a Demon's Souls on that list!

All may not be able to finish it...
All may not like it...

But it really is one of those games that everyone should try. Even if it's to see what all the fuss (critical acclaim, notorious "difficulty") was about

On second thought if you were dying, I don't see DS' setting being that comforting - world three especially

Beefstew4u4927d ago

Demon's Souls is probably the most awesome game this generation. Tough, but not cheap. Long, but not drawn out by a cheap story. And getting a friend to join your world to help you defeat a boss is just epic.

jony_dols4927d ago

No Bioshock? No Deus Ex? No Metal Gear Solid? No Goldeneye (N64)? No Resident Evil 4?

VenomProject4927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

Demon's Souls FTW.

I'd like to be buried with the following games:

BioShock (PS3)
Demon's Souls (PS3)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
Sonic 2 (Genesis)
Silent Hill (PS1)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

AndrewRyan4927d ago

Mine would be:

Final Fantasy 7
Bioshock
Final Fantasy 6
Mass Effect 2
God of War III
Super Mario All Stars
Little Big Planet
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Legend of Zelda Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario Legend of the Seven Stars
Paper Mario

Yeah all those off the top of my head. And yeah I know what you are going to say "Where is Uncharted 2!?" Well to be honest I have not played it yet but I will eventually, so far these games would be on my top 12 before YOU die list from my experience lots of fun to be had here.

nix4927d ago

most of us will probably die playing Demon's Souls... q:

princejb1344926d ago

i would say demon soulds also
but i cant even finish it
its to difficult for me
i quit after the first month
i just dont have all that time to be reexploring dungeons to level up

elpresador4926d ago

My Top 12 with reasons and in no Particular Order

I will say though I played and enjoyed it, Uncharted 2 will not be on this list cause to me I could only really play it once cause it was very linear and the replay value is not very high. Yes you have multi but it didnt do it for me.

Metal Gear Solid PS1 - Do I really need to give a reason? I think the GCN remake
was a bit better due to adding FPS ability to it but overall, an awesome game with great replay.

Zelda: Link to the Past SNES - I have played this game so many times it is unreal. I prefer this over Ocarina due to (for me at least) better story and the fact it is the classic 3/4 overhead which for me is better for Zelda than 3D.

Street Fighter 2 Arcade - THough not the first fighter, I was 11 when it came out in 1991 and unless you were there in the arcades when this beast came out, you will never know the aura that this game put out. Hell, I have a friend that could stay on a machine for up to 5 hours and he nearly got into many fights due to beating so many people. But considering it was the first near pitch perfect fighter with memorable characters and environments, how can this not be added?

Super Mario World SNES - Same reasons as the article

elpresador4926d ago

Sonic (first 3) Genesis - Though it made the whole "Blast Processing" myth an arguing point for its fans, the game is simply awesome

Final Fantasy 6/3 SNES - Opera Scene, NUFF SAID

Final Fantasy 7 - Awesome overall game and maybe on here mainly due to it getting me into the RPG genre

Elder Scrolls Oblivion x360 - 120 hours in and barely scratched the surface though I did stop the side quests long enugh to beat the thing but beautiful landscapes, endless quests, great central story, awesome voice acting, and though only in it for a few minutes PATRICK FREAKIN STEWART, NUFF SAID

Killzone 2 PS3 - Now, this is not the best FPS game ever, the controls suck, the voice acting is over the top, the story is basic at bst, and the characters are cardboard cut outs but the multiplayer and the visuals alone is something to be seen to believe. I do think CRYSIS looks better but as far as a console game on a TV as opposed to a windows game on a dedicated monitor, you need to check this out

elpresador4926d ago

Shadow of the Colosus PS1 - no explination needed

HALO CE: Though Goldeneye was the first true great FPS on a console, Halo took it and improved on everything. Better story, better graphics, better controls, and yes, with 2 sticks it makes a difference. I am not a Halo fanboy but conisdering all the things Halo CE does right it needs to be on here. Only bad thing about HCE is whenever ANY FPS game comes out,ESPECIALLY if it is one that is exclusive to another console, we have to hear HALO KILLER as a desriptor (see HAZE and KZ2)

SUPERMAN 64 N64 - Yes I know this is considered one of, if not THE worst game ever made but that is why it is on this list. It is the best example of how NOT to make a game and if you dont know what a bad game is or how bad a game can get then you wouldnt realize why a great game is great.

Your list is nice but there is only one game that everybody must play and I feel that that game is Shadow of the Colossus.

Lol @MW2 and Reach on the list.

Replace those with COD4 and Halo 1 at least.

I'd also add

Dark Cloud 2 & (J)RPGs in general-- they move me unlike any other genre
GTA San Andreas
FL0WER

Rage_S904927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

shadow of the colossus +10000000000
Dark Cloud 2 +1000000000

Takoulya4927d ago

I think Reach should stay, but MW2 should definitely be out. MGS4 is a definite. That game surpassed all boundaries of games to this day and became a true artistic masterpiece.

bananlol4927d ago

SOtC is the only game ive ever played that i think deserve a 10/10. Snake eater comes close though.

NoOoB1014927d ago

FF7
Dark cloud 2
Counter strike
Halo 1
Gran turismo 4 or 5
GTA san andreas
Little big Planet
SotC
Metal gear solid..any of them
Elder scrolls oblivion or morriwind.
Super Mario bros 3
Sonic from Sega Genesis days.

There are others i want to add but i think that's a good list for 12 =]

NeutralGamer4927d ago

More lol at World of Warcraft on the list...

Shikoro4926d ago

Dark Cloud Collection coming, believe!

ToT

BABY-JEDI4927d ago

That is a superb game & the original Resident Evil. Also Demons Souls & & wait a minute PAC Man LoL

bananlol4927d ago

I love ico, but sotc is a upgrade in every part of the field. Thats why im so eager to get my hans on tlg, uedas games actually gets better.

Ducky4927d ago

I'm pretty sure one can play only tetris and make it through all of life.

T9X694927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

TBH your list is pretty horrible. Sports Champions really? It may be a game to play, but if I was about to die, that would be the last game I'd want to play lol.

+bubbles for thesithfreak, he's the only person to put down Legend Of Zelda Link To The Past. I'm honestly surprised it's not on more people's list.

Kleptic4926d ago

agreed...the original list having ocarina of time over a link to the past was ridiculous imo...

i know oot has a big following, but I usually summed that up to the N64 being a disaster of a console until that released...and then finally a great game released (along with goldeneye around the same time iirc)...a link to the past stood out on the SNES even among the greats like mariokart, and Super metroid...

which furthers my list...mario kart wii, get rid of it...don't even bother, the original is easily the only one that people should care about...you could replace a lot of games on that list with goledeneye, and especially Super Metroid, which was easily the first game to have a cinematic feel, also...

PimpHandHappy4927d ago

i guess i was thinking more if i was stranded... Yes SC would be cool just to get off my butt

KratosGIRL4927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

I believe the expression you're looking for is "hop off my nuts"

"Get of my butt" sounds like he just ass raped you thus making you look gay.

wildcat4927d ago

Haha good catch KratosGIRL!

cochise3134927d ago

you need to add the Mass effect series, and Heavy Rain

cochise3134927d ago

I guess the person who disagreed with me has played neither game.

CptBach4927d ago

Mass effect sucks.. I don't understand why people play it

cochise3134927d ago

what, are you crazy? mass effect is the shit, and mass effect 2 took it to a whole nother level

bananlol4927d ago

Me1>Me2, just my oppinion though. The conversation with soverign is one of my most awsome gaming moments, his ridiculously low pitched voice literally made my flore shake:D

stopped reading at COD:MW2

*laughs out loud*

DufferO84926d ago

Its probably a typo. maybe they meant COD4:MW

Bits-N-Kibbles4927d ago

it started out well, and then started adding games from this generation like COD:MW2, Halo Reach, and GT5...

I'm not saying these are bad games or that they don't belong on the list, but you don't know how the games will age and effect games to come, a little too soon for these games to be added to a gaming bucket list.

At least replace mario kart wii with the original mario kart, and replace MW2 with COD4. and I'm surprised Shadow of the Colossus, golden eye, Sonic, pong, CS, Age of Empires, and others a bunch of you are mentioning aren't there.

The list should be changed or renamed.

Emmettcelticfan4927d ago

did you only start gaming this gen?
A few games on my list would be

Hogs of war
dino crisis 2
metal gear solid 3
resident evil 2
devil may cry 3 (special edition were you can be vergil)
tekken tag tournament

12 is no were near enough to cover all the great games over the years

JoySticksFTW4927d ago

I approve this list

I never played Hogs of War(?) but the rest are amazing - with MGS3 and RE2 reaching legendary status

TTT is still my favorite Tekken game and the one I still play.

While fans are most likely eyeing the StreetFighter v Tekken and Tekken v SF games, I've got TTT2 in my sights

antz11044927d ago

Did you even own a nintendo?

HINDERIZATION4927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

no PS1 or PS2 games?
you haven't played many games apparently...

maxcer4927d ago

lol is the ps3 your first console?

tacosRcool4927d ago

There are so many games that should even be considered. I am sad to see that Halo and Modern Warfare 2 to makes it on the list. Half Life 2 is such a better game then both of them. Mario Kart Wii?!?!? Mario Kart on the N64 is so much better anyways Mario 64 beats any Mario Kart hands down. Why would they have WOW on the list?

Brawler4927d ago

I guess I can die now. :P

Ch1d0r14927d ago

Why do i get a feeling the only console you own is a PS3.

YoungKingDoran4927d ago

symphony of the night would be the game i would make an alien play to let it understand what video games are.

I've played all of em, guess I can die peacefully now, goodbye world.

PS: Choose a damn picture already lol.

CrzyFooL4927d ago

That means I can die now!!

List is pretty MEH btw.

Neckbear4927d ago

Anybody can make a better list.

Well, excluding PimpHandHappy up there. Dare I say, that list is worse than the article's one.

NotChrisHansen4927d ago

wow really? it's just his opinion

Neckbear4927d ago

...Oh my.

I cannot express my inner rage for the stupidity between this list.

"GUISE LETZ PUT WOW ND MW2 WHIEL WE IGNORE DEUS EX OR PLANESCAPE TORMENT LOLZ EPIC FOR THE WIN".

...C'mon.

gamerdude1324927d ago

Funniest comment I've seen all day. + Bubbles.

Ducky4927d ago

I don't see what's wrong.
If I had to play those games, I'd contemplate death too.

hoof1234927d ago

I bought Planescape Torment from a carboot sale the other day for 20p, still haven't started to play it yet though, is it that good?

visualb4927d ago (Edited 4927d ago )

exactly.

if you have not played deus ex or at least one of black isles games, as well as SoTC or Goldeneye, you haven't touched the early classics....

as well as Zelda Link to the past, sonic 2 and castelvania (any of the early ones!!)

@ hoof123 - I haven't played it, but its a black isle game (fallout creators)

so expect awesome and strange story and extremely atmospheric RPG =) its old school, but as good as it gets.

hoof1234927d ago

Cool, I'l get around to installing it then! PdotS I wholeheartedly agree with ALTTP!

ian724927d ago

I agree about Deus EX been a great game. It's my favourite game of all time, had many hours lost due to it. I also loved GTA:San Andreas, another game that I lost many hours to.
I also agree with most people that MW is better than MW2. The first COD (WW2) was also brilliant.

10 Rarest PS3 Games Worth an Arm and a Leg

Aquanauts Holiday at $500. Nice

jznrpg3h ago

I don’t collect games for their value I collect games I enjoyed playing. Many games I own are worth a lot of money but they must be games I want to play for me to purposely collect them. Most of this list isn’t games I would enjoy. I may have some of these games because I bought my friends PS2/3 Collection years ago and I never actually looked what was in it. It was a couple hundred games though still sitting in a box and I’m sure there are some good valuable games. I should go sift through it sometime.

Profchaos2h ago

I tend to agree for the most part rarity is linked to price
It's unusual that a rare game was popular with a few notable exceptions. Games released at the tail end of a consoles lifecycle which became popular years or decades later like little Samson on the NES or earthbound on SNES.
Or games that were banned after release in certain regions

Looking at this list there's nothing I'd be trying to collect either most of these games were fairly unpopular and bashed on their release leading to the scarcity seen now.
Especially NBA elite which I remember actually watching the news about how it got cancelled but had already shipped to retail it was so bad .

P_Bomb2h ago

I still have Afrika. Who knew it’d be worth something?

‘Hellblade 2’ Launches As The 23rd Most-Played Xbox Game, What Does That Mean?

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 launched last week to solid reviews from both fans and players. But its playercount? That's another story.

helicoptergirl10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

That's awful. This combined with the really low Steam numbers paint a disastrous picture imo. Really bad timing too because Tango was closed down for a similar thing. Great reviewed game, and low sales and/or player count. Hi-Fi Rush reviewed a hell of a lot better and it was widely loved by everyone, Hellblade 2 nowhere near that.

I know the rumor is that the studio has their next game already green-lit, but if I worked at Tango, I would be furious. "Why do they survive while we get binned?" I'd be telling myself.

But the suit woman will have you believe "Oh we have different metrics for the success of one studio compared to another studio. We judge each studio and game on their own set criteria" or something like that, I'm paraphrasing here but you get the idea. But no one who works there knows what the hell that even means. I mean the DLC for Redfall was getting worked on days before they even got the news their studio was getting dumped in the trash. So what are these mysterious metrics to let studios survive and others perish? I bet this is all hogwash, I bet MS don't even really know. They just had to make cuts and certain studios just found their way on the chopping block. Someone had to bite the dust, why not you?

Well I bet all this does nothing for the confidence of other employees in other studios. The truth is you have no idea where your career will be in a year from now working at one of their studios that aren't the mega big ones. MS just have too many studios to manage efficiently. "We'll just throw money at them and buy them and worry about the details later on. I mean we can do it, we're Microsoft."

darthv729h ago

...have you seen what the top 10 consists of? Its things like fortnite, roblox, CoD, apex... etc. This being a new game that has a niche appeal is actually surprising to see at 23. Its also the 33rd top paid game on the PC through the MS store.

tay87019h ago

Those are dreadful numbers any way you slice it dude. They hyped this game to hell for the last 4 plus yrs. It was supposed to be xboxs big game this yr. Ninja Theory is probably sweating right now.

Scissorman8h ago

And it's already slipped out of the Top 100 on Steam. Meanwhile a port of the 4-year old Ghost of Tsushima is sitting comfortably at #8.

RiseNShine8h ago

One of the biggest games of the year, a multi million sequel and heavily advertised game, at 23 most played? There's no way to justify those numbers.

darthv728h ago

^^heavily advertised game...?

I mean, I knew the game was coming but outside of a boot screen ad for it, there has been little to no marketing. And yet it still managed 23rd. Make of that what you will.

Elda7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Here in the East Coast on NY/NJ on cable tv Hellblade 2 has been advertised pretty well. I see the commercials every day at least 3 times a day for the past 3 weeks. It's even advertised as YT commercials.

Chevalier6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

What an idiotic comment. Let me guess the next comment would be GTA V outsold everything so....

Absolutely terrible numbers all round for this game. Ghost of Tsushima at number 8. Good games going to sell regardless of excuses

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 6h ago
RpgSama7h ago

What a disaster, 2 failures in a row for Ninja Theory, first Bleeding edge, now Hellblade 2, any way you slice it these are not the numbers the most awaited game of the year for Xbox should show (before Activision purchase), also player numbers is extremely low and even more surprising considering is day 1 on gamepass.

Crows903h ago

If they worked on heavenly sword instead then they would have something worth playing and waiting for... unfortunately that won't happen.

Terry_B10h ago

It means that it will be the..50th? 75th? most played xbox game in June.

CrimsonWing699h ago

That people played it 🤷‍♂️

Scissorman9h ago

If this game cost more and took longer to develop than Hi-Fi Rush, then I would worry if I were Ninja Theory. Projects may have been greenlit, but the increased scrutiny over at MS may very well put them on the chopping block. The incredible irony here is that it was PlayStation players that pushed the original game passed its 1 million copies sold milestone. With that purchasing power cut out, and the Game Pass effect having trained Xbox players to not purchase games, it seems that the sequel may have been set-up for failure.

italiangamer8h ago

And that's exactly what pisses me off about Hellblade 2 not being on PlayStation, Sony promoted the original game and I bought it basically on D1 back in the day because I liked what I saw and ended up really enjoying it!
I really hope Hellblade 2 is next on the porting list because I would buy it in a heartbeat, asshole microsoft robbed me of this game!

darthv728h ago

Just get an xbox. Then it will be YOU that is robbing Microsoft. Gamepass is a hell of a deal and an addictive one at that.

AndrewM8h ago

No darth, buying an Xbox only helps xbox lol he can play gamepass on com if he wants to take advantage of them destroying themselves.

Scissorman46m ago

If anything I would say that these sales figures and player counts may actually fast-track its PS5 port.
