The genre not affected is the action hack and slash genre.
Its timeless and ageless as gaming itself.
Although I saw a lot of Soulsborne fans trashing Devil May Cry 5 for not having a stamina bar and a dodge button.

They threw a few of those into that new Star wars fallen order. I felt the new zelda had a lot of that kind of stuff tossed on but more survival games.
Every other game coming or out right now has Rogue-like as a sub in the title. I do think its greatly effecting every genre.
Storytelling is hurt by Souls complete lack of a solid narrative. We need more writers and single player games. Especially with VR gaining momentum.

I plan to pick up my VR set in about April if I can save enough. I honestly wish more games like Nier:automata would come out. Make that your model. Gravity Rush 2 and 1 are soooo good. I would get so sick doing gravity rush in VR though lol.

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
