Holding out for Desert Bus next.

darthv722610d ago

So the kickstarter from about 3 years ago has found new life.

I still have Night Trap for my 32X I think. https://r.mprd.se/Sega%20CD...

Watching that trailer all I have to say is, "Damn that @ss!".
I hope that game is dirty cheap though. Should be like $10-$15 it's so old.

Anyone remember this one? https://r.mprd.se/Sega%20CD...

gangsta_red2609d ago (Edited 2609d ago )

Desert Bus! Lol! There needs to be a next gen remake.

One, I cant believe its been 25 years... Two... How? When it was recorded in such low quality in the first place. It didn't sell well back in the day, not sure if it has an audience to support a rerelease.

If so, all the power to them. Ill be interested to see if this somehow brings back a resurgence of FMV games.

dead_pixels2610d ago

One can only hope. I spent a ton of time playing games like Who Shot Johnny Rock?, Crime Patrol, Braindead 13, Double Switch, and the like back in the day. I'll be diving into this pre-order with a fury.

Taero2609d ago

Braindead 13... that brings memories.

Darkwatchman2610d ago

I own the original sega cd release, but either the disc or the sega cd itself was screwed because it would constantly freeze or there would be issues with video playback and I couldn't really play it.

It'll be nice to play it again on a modern console, but in physical form too. If it was digital only, I wouldn't bother giving it a second look, but a physical re-release of a game with this much history behind it? Hell yeah

darthv722610d ago

That was the plan about 3 years ago. It was going to release on PC, PS3, 360 and I think even regular dvd/br players. Since you dont really do much in the way of controlling the action, using a bluray remote would have been sufficient. Just like they did with the space ace and dragons lair games on dvd / br.

darthv722610d ago

It was shot on 35mm film which transfers to HD much better than people think. Many just look at the release on Sega CD or the 3DO as being grainy because those were the limitations of the platforms not the source material.

And there was actually two versions of this game. The one most people know is actually a revised version with an alternate opening and other dialog changes that was made by the request of Sega for the first release on Sega CD (red label).

The subsequent re-release for Sega CD (blue label) as well as the 32x and 3DO versions are what is considered the original release as it uses the original filmed footage including the original opening and dialog.

CorndogBurglar2610d ago

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not so sure it was the limitation of the platforms. Double Switch, Tomcat Alley, Ground Zero Texas, Sewer Shark, and Dracula all looked much better and less grainy that this.

theXtReMe12610d ago

I hope you're right, as I dont think I ever played it and I loved and still love the 3DO. Twisted is still my favorite party game of all time.

CorndogBurglar2610d ago

Double Switch, Ground Zero Texas, Sewer Shark, Dracula, and Tomcat Alley were all great!

This one.....not so much.

darthv722610d ago

The grainy nature of the fmv games was due to the limited color palette of the genesis. by the time they got around to things like ground zero and tomcat alley they figure out a technique to make it look less grainy and a bit more colorful. 32x helped out allot but the 3do still looks the best of that era as it had much higher color palette and processing power.

Gamist2dot02610d ago

Really liked Tomcat Alley until that one clip where you fire the missile and in the next scene there's one that shows a modeled jet suspended in the air; then explodes. It ruined my experience lol. All the other clips were well shot except for that one.

The low-quality is definitely because of ancient compression techniques from the day. Remember that Sega CD was (I think) the first home console to use the CD format. To fit the amount of video on it, it had to be ridiculously compressed. If it was shot on film, then it can be rescanned into HD (which the trailer seems to show). This makes me super happy cause it could pave the way for the rest of the batch to possibly follow to everyone else's dismay but my bliss.

dumahim2610d ago

Just because it was played back on low quality CD FMVs doesn't mean that's how it was filmed.

frostypants2609d ago (Edited 2609d ago )

I don't see FMV games making a comeback. 3D rendered graphics have reached a point of quality that FMV has been rendered mostly pointless. Back then FMV worked because the typical sprite graphics of the day were so primitive. I guess I could see it working for those Telltale games, but to get good enough actors and production values, it could actually cost more than just rendering.

In any event, my favorite FMV game was Under a Killing Moon. Probably the best reviewed FMV game of all time, and still arguably the best detective game ever.

Valve facing £656,000,000 lawsuit over claims Steam is ripping off players

The owner of Steam has been accused of overcharging 14 million PC gamers in the UK and 'shutting out' competition in a new lawsuit.

Dan503d ago

Overcharging? Have these people never heard of sales?

just_looken2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

"Valve, the owner of Steam, is being sued for £656m over claims it is abusing its dominant market position to overcharge players.

The collective action claim has been filed with the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal by digital rights campaigner Vicki Shotbolt.

In the lawsuit, Shotbolt accuses Valve of ‘shutting out’ competition when it comes to buying PC games and DLC, which has led to 14m people in the UK being overcharged for PC games as a result.

The claim is seeking up to £44 compensation for every UK player who has bought a PC game or add-on content from June 5, 2018."

So they are trying to take the apple/sony/xbox approach were there is only one store without ever using a pc for gaming.

Anyone with a ounce of pc gaming knowledge knows steam did nothing when competition and the launcher war happened but now every publisher that had there own launcher with games only available on that platform are slowing coming back to steam.

This "lawsuit" should be directed to launcher's like rockstar's as they have games only available on there like the gta collection or ubisoft with xdefiant heck epic launcher exclusive games. There is no grounds in which steam has locked down content to there platform except there own games though there are disc versions of those except half life alex.

Pc players still have the best choice on game buying with multiple launcher's and site that offers keys like my fav humble bundle but on the same platform we have the worst drm along with those 3rd part launcher's that need to run in the background.

anast2d ago

How about suing them for the game files that the customer should own?

Michiel19892d ago

yes, let's give storefronts the power to decide over properties they don't own, sounds awesome

anast2d ago

I don't understand. Your comment isn't clear.

Michiel19891d 19h ago

I was being sarcastic, 99.9% of games sold on there are not from valve so there's not much they can do about it.

anast20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Since the customer has agreed not to own, there is nothing that can be done. If customers do not agree, then the landscape looks different.

anast19h ago

In addition, if Steam goes out of business, they have measures to ensure gamers keep their steam games. This seems to be a grey area of ownership, someone has agreed to some kind of perpetuity in the case of this event, which could a possible hole to exploit.

Steam allows 3rd party apps (which I hate) and...we all know that egs is the one that keeps buying exclusivity lol. A lot of devs and consumers rely on steam hence it's very heavy support.

VariantAEC2d ago

Imagine a child safety advocate switching gears and targeting how a business sells games, weird right? I could be wrong, and maybe old blonds in England with the name Vicki Shotbolt are a dime a dozen... but assuming this is the same Vicki Shotbolt of The Parent Zone, her company The Parent Zone partnered with MS in 2014. That's a long time ago I know, but apparently Shotbolt has ties with the UK government.

I'm not saying anything, but MS doesn't let partnerships like that die.

paulust20022d ago

If I get 44 pound from them I'll only be spending it in the steam store...fucking absurd ..one of the most ethical companies out there and largely due to them not being a public offering imo
