Report: Assassin's Creed Shadows to Require an Internet Connection Even If It's Single-Player Only

Assassin's Creed Shadows digital storefront pages are up, and it confirms the game will require an internet connection, and MTX.

kenpachi28d ago

Was sort of interested in this but if it's true it's an easy pass

jznrpg28d ago

It’s true for sure. Avatar game had online requirement

Tacoboto28d ago

Avatar only had an online requirement to install the disc version, not to play.

This AC really does have Online Play Required marked on it.

JL293027d ago

Oh no, how will you get your blacurai fix?

Redemption-6427d ago

It isn't true. They cleared things up. The internet connection is to down the game. It does not require being online to play

neutralgamer199227d ago

I play on PC but for damn sure not buying. Single player games should have offline option it’s that simple. I bet you this has something to do with UBI hub area where they want all AC games to be played from.

as usual..Don't Buy Ubisoft Games.

https://quivianproductions....
Is what they should change their logo to. I posted this pic on their twitter account as well, telling them to change it. 🤣

Skuletor28d ago

One thing that's messed up about this, is there will be people playing pirated versions of this without that restriction, while the paying customers will suffer. Just like how some games will have lower performance on PC due to DRM, while pirated copies don't.

Anyone that wants to say something like "Who doesn't have internet access in this day and age?" There's plenty reasons people won't always have access, such as living in rural areas with spotty coverage, for example.

CantThinkOfAUsername27d ago

Who's gonna crack the game when the scene is quite empty? DRM has lost many battles but won the war.

Skuletor27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

Wouldn't know, I don't pirate stuff. Last I saw was Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has a PC version made from a combination of the PS5 disc and some files from the Insomniac leak, so there's some cracking scene activity in that regard.

Just checked and Mirage apparently hasn't been cracked yet, so I guess you have a point but I wouldn't be surprised if Shadows does get cracked eventually.

Jingsing27d ago

You can check any torrent site they are downloaded in their millions, especially Sony games on PC. But Sony doesn't seem bothered.

banger8828d ago

Three single-player games in a row they've done this with now. Those f***ers weren't kidding when they said gamers need to be comfortable with not owning their games. As a physical collector, and somebody who enjoys Ubisoft's open worlds, this is a nightmare scenario for me. Absolute scumbag company.

-Foxtrot27d ago

The worse thing is people keep buying them day one, even those against this most of the time.

They literally give the worst anti-consumer statements, tell us to get comfortable not owning our games and it feels like no one gives a shit.

It's not like nothing else is coming out, be patient, play a better game in the meantime while this game goes down in price. It's not going to kill you to make a stand.

"the music that builds up once Yasuke enters combat infuses the traditional Japanese shakuhachi and koto melodies with hip-hop beats" oh dear lord. DEI TRASH.

Huey_My_D_Long3h ago

Wow sounds like something outta Samurai Champloo, but you know gotta pretend its an agenda instead just saying "Im racist"

lucian2293h ago

so he's racist because it's dumb to put hiphop in a game in japan? i myself am from brooklyn nyc; im dark skin and even i find it dumb. just like when live action aladdin had hip hop instead of arab music.......maybe just not go for the whole cultural appropriation thing.....or is it only bad when white people do it?

Inverno2h ago

It's more racist to me seeing hip hop being automatically associated with blackness, when it's more of an American thing and there are black people well outside America that have no cultural connection with hip hop. The more appropriate thing to do would be to incorporate whatever music, he as a real historical figure, would've most likely have a cultural connection to. So whatever music being performed in east Africa in the 1500s.

lucian2292h ago

hip hop was created by black americans........it's factual.....LOL that's like saying western knights and armor being thought of with europeans is racist. like what

Huey_My_D_Long2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

@lucian229
Idk if you lying, but in good faith Ill assume you arent.
Its the DEI comment, should be pretty apparent thats the racist part.
Kinda makes me question what you say since you gonna make it about "Hip Hop music in an asian setting." instead of the obvious dog whistle but hey, maybe as a dark skin brother, you are unaware of how DEI is a dog whistle for "black".

So SAMURAI CHAMPLOO is an JAPANESE ANIME set in EDO period. "The music of the 2004 anime series Samurai Champloo, created by the studio Manglobe, was produced by a team of four composers drawn from the hip hop musical scene. They were Shinji "Tsutchie" Tsuchida of Shakkazombie, Fat Jon, Nujabes and Force of Nature. The musical direction was chosen by series creator and director Shinichirō Watanabe as part of his planned blending of hip hop culture with the anime's setting in the Edo period, additionally incorporating contributions from guest artists."
Thats to the moron calling it DEI Trash, illustrating that Japanese themselves love hip hop so all of sudden when an french studio do it, its DEI, where Samurai Champloo is one of the classics.

@lucian229
Do you wanna have a conversation about cultural appropriation? Are you making the argument this is cultural appropriation?

Slow year this year, So this probably gonna be my GOTY, especially since they seem to be revamping the stealth in AC. Which is good. As much as I love the series, Ive always felt stealth has always been their weakest element, so its nice to see them fleshing it out mechanically. Yasuke looks pretty cool, but I think the new stealth stole the show.

But Yasuke has feudal Japan hip hop battle music

Can't subvert that

got_dam12h ago

I mean, samurai shamploo has a mostly hip hop soundtrack if I remember right. No opinion on the game itself, just saying there is a real world example of hip-hop samurai entertainment made by the Japanese.

VersusDMC10h ago

Well has AC ever had non historically accurate music in its Animus sections?

And samurai Champloo doesn't give a greelight to use rap in every japanese setting game. If rap was playing when you encountered youske in Nioh 2 it would be cringe and the people calling it ok for AC shadows would call it racist in Nioh 2.

Obscure_Observer11h ago

Already sold on both!

November can´t come soon enough.
